Your interpretation on how FLCL is about fighting the mundaneness of endless every day can be seen in the lyrics of Blues Drive Monster

Yeah the pillows really were one of the most vital parts of it

The part at 10:34 reminded me of Mamimi casually wondering if school will be canceled if the satellite hits the town in episode 4. She even gets disappointed that Naota swung the bat even though he saved everyone.

Condensed and well structured arguments + well timed comedic effects + enhanced editing = excellent video. This is a pleasant format. If I may nitpick: in the original version, Naota's taste in beverage does change, from disliking sour (酸っぱい) beverages to disliking carbonated beverages (maybe subtle character development, defused by Ninamori who says in the end that he is still a child... because he still doesn't understand or feign to not understand that it is an indirect kiss proposition). Congratulation for your ability to criticize your past self's cute pedantry, but don't be too harsh on him: he has become wiser over the years

Great point to connect how the series is bookended by Naota's "nothing exciting ever happened" remark with the idea of the endless everyday. It also brings me to mind again how Kasai Kiyoshi described sekai-kei with "everyday is armageddon and armageddon is everyday." It's a fascinating perspective that rather than being being the definitive end to everything, there is a sense that arnageddon just become yet another everyday occurence.

Great video, really. Also: getting FLCL is actually way easier than understanding what exactly is going on with the funky EVA t-shirt and it's changing colors.

An amazing video (as always)!! This concept of Endless Everyday and the way it is represented in FLCL is probably why it resonates so much with me.

Super cool visual polishes. Nothing feels static or idle in your text, image placements, backgrounds, etc. Glad to see you back with this year's NOVID. :) I also like how you took this as an opportunity to "update" your perspective from a video from your past.

A great video, I don't hate most of the FLCL videos I have seen on KZbin but I have been left cold by them, so it was a warm surprise to see someone who sees the show the way I do. Thank you for adding another voice my oft-sung chorus of "guys this show isn't ~Impossible to Understand~ you were just dumb when you were 14 and saw it at 11 PM in your parents basement"!

when i was in middle school i trained myself to wake up right before FLCL came on during it's 2005 run on AS. it's also part of the reason why i'm obsessed with rickenbackers lmao. really dug this tbh. i think the "endless everyday" aspect that you described is what made this show sow alluring to my 12 year old self, even if he didn't know it yet.

Great video. My personal enjoyment of FLCL comes mostly to its strong confidence on its characters and presentation. I loved its uniqueness at the time and I still do. For a 6-episode OVA from more than 20 years ago, the fact that it continues to be remembered fondly is something impressive.

Well it is what it is, and executes it perfectly. And no matter what people think does or doesn't happen, it's just such a vibe.

I have seen Furri Kurri twice and It still goes completely over my head. The only thing I could get from it is the fact that it’s a “coming of age story, “ and that’s only because I’ve heard that from other people. Though I think your analysis has inspired me to give it another try and hopefully understand it better. Kishokentetsu for the win!
@ShrimplessScampi2 жыл бұрын
Lifelong FLCL fan. You’re never supposed to “get” anything off of the original OVA. It’s what you make of it. For me, it is a coming of age story as it originally aired in America the summer before my 13th birthday. I’m older now and realize this show was all about the pressure of being a male teenager.
@zachattack27462 жыл бұрын
@@ShrimplessScampi I only saw it in my adulthood. So maybe that's why I can't connect with it at least on a personal level?

@@zachattack2746 for sure. I don’t even watch anime nowadays. To be quite honest FLCL and Samurai Champloo are the reasons I don’t watch anime since age 15. They both established a bar so high for me that I’d rather not waste my time looking for a new anime lol. Petty I know.

assuming you’re older than 12 years old, i’m not sure how someone can not understand flcl. the themes are right in front of you and very obvious, from the first scene to the last. if your sense of media comprehension shuts off because there’s a weird robot on the screen and that’s just way too ‘le wacky japan’ for you, i think you’re genuinely hopeless. it shows a disregard and disrespect for art
