@velocitymg

everything is awesome - Because he is the only that see’s she needs help. She caused her best friend to commit suicide, and is reminded every day of it with the hamster. Failed relationship, aloof weak father, bitch stepmother, impossibly successful sister who’s a hole husband set her up by assaulting her, business is going under. Everything is wrong in her life and she buries it so deep, and talks to the camera like an escape, like a pressure valve. The priest see’s her burying her emotions and pain under this ridiculous, funny exterior she has and can see when she fades out into herself because he is attentive and cares for her. The others are just too wrapped up in themselves. That’s my personal view of it, I am sure someone else will see it another way

Fun fact: in real life, only siblings have names. I mean, how often do you actually refer to people by name? Your partner will have a nickname, your parents are generally not adressed by name, when with friends you're either adressing everyone anyway or target specific people via looking at them and when you're with loose acquantainces you don't want to mess up their names so you find ways around using them.
@KarunyaSabapathy
@KarunyaSabapathy 4 жыл бұрын
@@DrZaius3141 well, that's a load of bollocks. The only ones I don't address by name are my parents, but most people I know (including myself) call friends and significant others by their name. Also...if you don't know somebody's name and don't want to mess it up, the best way around that is to actually ask their name and practice using it.

@@DrZaius3141 That's uh... not true at all. Co-workers, who you spend almost the same amount of time with as family, are all addressed by name. Your children are addressed by name. You literally call every one in your life by their names EXCEPT parents.

@Wren Poldark, I’m not suggesting the miscarriage itself was funny, or that it was laugh out loud comedy. But the line itself was pure black comedy, mixed with the emotional punch that came after with her “it’s mine” line. This show can be darkly comic and heartbreaking in the span of two lines.

My impression of the scene where the stepmom forgets her soon-to-be husband's name is that he's basically another token in her life (evident in the way she introduced the others--deaf, lesbian, bisexual Syrian); only she's reduced him down so drastically to that particular supporting role that she cannot even recall his name. This show was a masterpiece; I don't genuinely think I've laughed so hard at a tv series...ever.

Watching this season was like that relationship where you’re immediately obsessed with each other and it’s like animal magnetism and you think you’re going to be together forever because he’s clearly your sole mate and then he suddenly ghosts you so you just glide through life with a pit in your stomach wondering if it really even happened at all.

Phoebe Weller -Bridge is a national treasure. Gifted beyond belief, not only is she a very talented script-writer, she is a superb physical comedian. The scene when Fleabag drops the ultra-expensive glass award is in the same league of vintage Laurel And Hardy. Her fourth wall peeks at the camera is a homage to Oliver Hardy. Phoebe is in another league. To think she is only in her early 30s........

In the UK sitcoms are written by individuals or just a couple of people and they only run for a few episodes and only a few series, compared to the US where there are teams of writers. There are pros and cons for both, the UK approach allows shows to go out on a high and not milked to death and eventually dropped when people have stopped watching.

Just wanted to post my theory and maybe encourage some to watch again. 🦊 Imagine for a moment that we aren’t watching a show at all. Imagine that fleabag is actually a real person in real life where there is no fourth wall. 🤯 Her life is just playing out and it’s heartbreaking and sad but funny and wild. Now remember the “show” takes place in a particular timeframe, in season one it’s after the death of her best friend. Yet if this were real life the “show” actually starts prior to that with the death of her mother in season 2. 🕰 We watch this “show” and in our heads we are an audience but what if I told you we are actually fleabags mother and best friend. 🤨 It dawned on me when my own mother who was my best friend passed away. For awhile it almost felt like she was there at times watching unable to speak but fully interactive in her own way. 🤕 Now I know this theory requires evidence but I come prepared... 🤗 First off the therapist scene: I initially like everyone else thought she was talking to us I mean she even said “they are always there”👻 Yet it dawned on me this entire “show” has never been about us so why now of all moments does she take the time to include us. I believe this is a misdirect. ➡️↗️⬅️ Fleabag is a master at misdirection even down to the core of the show she doesn’t want us to know who we truly are to her as the audience member. (Her mother and best friend)💭 The second clue is the transference of love. The timeframe when her mother appears from the other side is at the funeral and during this time fleabag does no fourth wall breaks she is unaware of the presence of her mother but her mother is watching. She does this right up until the moment that she knows that the love fleabag has for her will be with her best friend. This allows her to leave and gives us no episodes of a “show” the entire timeframe in between until the passing of her best friend. The loss of her best friend then causes the “show” to resume with her watching with fleabags mother from the other side. ♥️ Smaller clues that add up, ➕⬆️ The priest and the paintings Whether it’s subtle or not the church scenes shows that there’s other worldly things at play. If paintings can fall o so conveniently at the mention of not believing then why can’t people see from the other side. 🧐 Lastly the simplest reason is comfort and no name. 🌐 Fleabag is oddly comfortable with us almost like “WE” are her best friends, she includes us like we have been together for years. “We” don’t need her name because “we” already know it and “we” already know her. She farts in elevators and has us watch her have sex. She bears her soul but never feels ashamed with us. It’s because it’s not us, it’s them. It’s a feeling that only a mother and a best friend could give. She never opens up to anyone the entire “show” expect people that are able to see her true self and not judge for example like the banker outside the retreat. He got her to open up and even connected deeper when he gave her the loan for the cafe. Yet there’s only one person who could see her mother and best friend. Even if only for a glimpse and it just so happens that it’s the priest. Coincidence? 🤔 Remember when she walked away she broke the fourth wall not because she didn’t have the priest anymore but because she knew that in order to live and love in her life she had to finally say goodbye. Her having the statue to remember her mother and the shop to remember her best friend she could let them move on she said in the beginning of the season that this is a love story and we thought it was a love story about the priest but remember what her best friend said after her mom passed away. She said “she had to find a place to put the love she had for her mother” and she finally did . Like the therapist said she knew what she had to do... she had to love herself. She’s saying bye to her mom and best friend because she finally loves herself and I’m so happy for her. At least that’s my theory please watch again with this in mind and let me know what you guys think. 👋🏽 -- piglet 🐷 Thank you so much for reading and hope the best to you all
