What a full episode and all that woolly progress! I recently had the pleasure of seeing a Wall Flower in person...this lady was close to the 2yr mark and at about the same spot as Kim is with hers. I was stunned she had no prior experience crocheting but she said Kim's courage to take on such a big project made her brave enough to try it too. She explained that after seeing your farm and the fields and flowers therein she chose her colours to reflect that and every time she looks at it she sees the fields around the farm and is transported right back to PEI.

For Betsy about the socks: You don't need to knit toe-up to be able to adjust the ankle stitches. If you knit cuff down and want a tight ankle, you can add height for the foot part by knitting the heel flap longer. That way you'll pick up more stitches for the gusset. Then just decrease enough that the rest of the sock fits. No need to fiddle with needle sizes and stuff. Another trick is to knit ribbing on the ankle - it pulls the fabric together so that the sock fits better.

Agreed . If u knit bottom leg close to flap too tight u cant get it over your heel . Beware

I enjoy hearing about your area and your lives. I live in a place similar to the wildness of yours and we have a dog that came from a rescue who also has overcome some of the sad behaviours of the puppy mill environment. Our boy loves the forest and the smells of the fox, the flick of the white tail deer, the excitement of a bear crossing the road, the sounds of the wolves and coyotes when they come near. Oh yeah...and I love the wooly projects too!

Love your Snowflowers - I’m steeped in other stuff so will wait to make that, but I’m signed in for Rowan updates, tips, tricks and other discussions. While I was watching, I thought “what if I made a consistent background and varied the contrast by degrees…” - because I too have lots of stashed felted tweed. Simone, I absolutely love your work. Betsy, I absolutely love your dyeing work (and seeing it in progress). Kim, you bring it all together, make it look easy, and are the founder of the feast. Thank you all.

Great woolcast full of tips again. ❤ I am knitting my scrappy point prim socks while I watch and smiled when you talked about the same colour being different . I am using bits and bobs of seagull and they are slightly different colours. I love them! What a perfect song for Vinny’s walk. We have an old rescue dog whose ‘breeding days’ were over so she was no longer of use. I remember the first day she came home when she was afraid of stepping on our grass. She only knew concrete. 😢 She is now the queen of our home and is a one trick dog…shakes her paw.

Great episode! I have knit several tubular color work scarves. Most have had ribbing at each end. I don't close the ends but leave them open. Then you can use the inside of the scarf as hand warmers if your fingers get chilly! If there are enough ribbing or other border rows the color work floats will never show. I also catch my floats every 3-4 stitches. You ladies are so much fun.

It's understandable that each batch of a color comes out different it happens with big box store yarns too. I bought a baby blanket kit from Mary Maxim, and I did a gauge swatch that didn't measure up, and I decided that I didn't want to use any more of the yarn from the kit, so I ordered the same yarn and color that I did the first swatch. When the yarn arrived, I compared the two balls they were not the same. The new one had a more yellow tone to it. I've seen it many times when buying yarn at the big box stores you have to match the lot numbers.

As the person who caused the knit gritty, I appreciate the discussion... Sorry that I made you feel bad, Kim. That was not my intention. I bought the yarn in case I run out it's not a guarantee. Also all the yarn is absolutely beautiful. I'm all good, I've been doing helical knitting from the beginning as I do with all hands dyed yarn so I'll just add in the new fiddlehead by fading it in the bottom of the sweater, if I run out. No problem!! I also bought a bunch of solids for the collar, ribbing, and cuffs. I just wondered with the drastic change if that batch was a one off! I'll send pictures when it's done later this year! Love your yarn and wool cast. Next time I'll tell my husband to buy more!!!

As someone else suggested, perhaps Betsy could do 2" of ribbing at the ankle of her socks. I am enjoying working on my Wallflowers as I'm watching the episode. I'm so excited that we'll see Betsy crocheting the Tesselated one! Also, everytime Simone wears that sweater, it reminds me that I need to knit one ❤

Each individual fleece from one sheep to the next will dye differently. So you must do helical knitting alternating each skein "row by row".

I am making Joe Batts Arm, which has an insane, tiny printed detailed chart. I am doing the same thing with colored pencil and the COCO knits matching markers. It is saving my sanity😏 The pattern is actually going very well now....inspired by Kim's project! My slipper tip is to use shrunken in the dryer sweaters for soles. They are thick and washable and around here we have several such laundry victims.

I think it's row 28 that's supposed to be the same as row 14. I counted 3 times on the pattern. For catching floats, I used the video on the Philosopher's Wool site. It doesn't tangle the yarn AT ALL! Betsy, if your ankle is too loose on your socks, you MIGHT want to try a short-row heel (like the Fish Lips Kiss heel) instead of the heel flap and gusset. My feet are very narrow and my ankles are, too, and I SWIM in a heel flap and gusset sock. I find that a short-row heel works MUCH better for me. YMMV, of course. That's why we have so many choices.

You ladies are amazing. Betsy I used to do pottery and had to work with minerals for the glaze. I could never be consistent with keeping a recipe and weighing everything. Their are way too many variables to keep the color consistent. I have just started spinning and am starting a dying garden to dye my handspun (when it is good enough) with natural dye. I think getting a hand dyed yarn is exciting and I enjoy the variants. Let me end with this You can't please all the people all the time. Please take criticism with a grain of salt. Love all of you aNd appreciate your artistry.

All hand dyed yarn will vary and sometimes commercial dyed yarn can vary. It’s just the nature of the materials. I guess the only way to have 100% consistency of colour in yarn is using synthetics?
