I always imaged a mountain when I listen to their music. Some people say this is an underwhelming track, I honestly feel the opposite. Overwhelming to be exact, the same way I felt about "Someone you'd admire" from the Helplessness blues record. I'll be listening to this music for the rest of my life

How could it all fall in one day? Were we too sure of the sun? If you need to, keep time on me If you need to, keep time on me Who knows what state is in store? If they all turn, will you run? If you need to, keep time on me If you need to, keep time on me When I need to, I'll keep time on you Wide oceans roar A frightened fool stokes heatless fire But if you need to, keep time on me If you need to, keep time on me How could it all fall in one day? Were we too sure of the sun? If you need to, keep time on me

“Memory is a funny thing. When I was in the scene, I hardly paid it any mind. I never stopped to think of it as something that would make a lasting impression, certainly never imagined that eighteen years later I would recall it in such detail. I didn't give a damn about the scenery that day. I was thinking about myself. I was thinking about the beautiful girl walking next to me. I was thinking about the two of us together, and then about myself again. It was the age, that time of life when every sight, every feeling, every thought came back, like a boomerang, to me. And worse, I was in love. Love with complications. The scenery was the last thing on my mind.”

I can't help but cry listening to this song. It reminds me of my cat. My cat passed away yesterday after a week fighting for her life in the vet clinic after eating poison. Her liver was in such bad condition that we had to opt for euthanasia. She was not even 4 years old. I love her so much and it's somehow weird how a little cat could have such huge impact on me. I can perfectly remember the day I got her. My best friend Samantha called me saying she had a gift for me, so I went to the train station to meet her. She came out holding a cardboard box of shoes on her hands, which she handed me... I opened it and there she was, my beautiful baby cat, with those unforgettable sky-blue eyes who begged for love and I remember I almost immediately cried. I got home and cleaned her all up, killed all the fleas she had and we both fell asleep, with me holding her carefully in my chest. I named her Sammy. You see, for me this cat was and will always be metaphor and symbol for many things. I am so glad we could share these nearly 4 years of her existence together. Truth is life without her will be less colourful. After all, she was my companion during those late night cigarettes, contemplating the stars in the sky. I'll miss her sweet look full of love, asking for being petted. I'll miss her on that chair where I put my clothes, sleeping in that cute and funny position I loved. When I said goodbye to her yesterday, not a single world could come out of my mouth But I think she knew what I wanted to say. I was just there, petting her, she was purring and we were looking at each other's eyes intensely while tears rolled down my face. I can tell in that moment we were thanking each other for sharing these 4 years of existence together. Why do we take everything for granted? I wish this was a nightmare and that tomorrow morning I'll wake up with the warmth of her body next to my feet on my bed. I just hope I was the owner she needed, I hope I gave her a good pet life and I hope she felt loved. Because I truly loved that little girl so much. My Sammy, you'll always be in my heart, and I'll always love you, my beautiful pussycat...

My friends and I did a 6 day trek to Maccu Piccu unguided on the Salkantay Trail in Peru, on the third day we all sat down in a green field and had lunch with the final ascent in sight, someone set up an ipod (it was a simpler time then) with speakers and we listened to the helplessness blues album, ate what snacks we had as we gazed at the snow capped mountain looming above us, it seemed like it was written especially for the occasion. Thanks, fleetfoxes!

Their music certainly hits home with me being that I originate from the Blue Ridge. That timeless rustic feel is carved in my DNA. From what I've heard their next and maybe album after that will be issued sooner than a six year wait. So young still this group their most advanced works are yet to come. Maybe they've brought a fresh progressiviesm to folk rock

I found Helplessness Blues in the public library down at the end of our street. I thought,'This looks like some sort of a John Mayall quintet from the sixties that I must have over looked.' On the first listen I thought ' Nice. A kind of Midlake sound to it. So happy to have stumbled across a band that can write stuff of real substance. Real timeless sound that touches your spirit somehow. Hard to find among the plethora of pop noise we get these days.
