🌟 FLEET FRIDAY 🌟 FDNY HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TECHNICIAN UNIT

FDNY Hazmat Technician Unit 44 is the 2nd Piece to Engine Company 44, it is a 2015 Ferrara. There is a total of 4 HMTU Engine Companies & 8 Squad Companies that have a 2nd Piece that can act as a Hazmat Tech Unit. They are cross staffed by Primary Engine Company usually the Control & Door Firefighters. A Hazmat Tech Unit is assigned to any call Hazmat 1 is assigned which is known as the Hazmat Trio (Hazmat 1, HMTU & Hazmat Battalion). CBRN Incidents, Fuel Spills, Saddle Tanks, Freon Leaks, Mercury Spills, Unknown subsenses, Battery Fires, Lithium Ion Fires, Electric Car Fires, Leaking Packages, Bomb Threats, Gas Main Breaks, Radiation detection, Decontamination, Asbestos Exposure, Con Ed Facilities, Bio Hazard Calls, Ebola Fever Calls, Science Labs. Anything Hazmat Related they respond to. All Hazmat Tech Companies are Hazmat Tech Level 2. Hazmat 1 has Tech 2 & Specialists.

Absorbent Pads & Booms, Air Drill, Air Hose, Bleach, Bottle Jacks, Brooms, Transfer Hoses, BIO-Solve, Chemical Bladders, Chlorine Kits, Collection Kits, Decon Pools, Decon Drums, Rubber Overshoes, Dome Clamps, Drum & Tank Repair Kits, Drum Liners, Dry Acid, Exhaust Fan, Floor Jack, Fuel Tank Spike, Gas Tapper Kit, Grounding Rod, Bonding Kit, Hammer Drill, Hole Saw, Level A & B Suites, Lion Suites, Little Giant, Mercury Spill KIt, Pack Eye, Decon Gowns, Propane Emergency Kit, Putty Kit, Radiation Shield, Saw Zall, 60min cyclinders, Soda Ash, Step Stools, Chemical PRotections SUites & Boots, Drain Seal, Mini Cutter, Wilden Pump, Vetter Kit, Speedy Dry, Cell Block, & other Hazmat stuff.

Bacharach Freon Meter, Digilert 200, Rad Light Watches, First Defender RMX, Fluke Infrared Thermometer, Indentfinder 2, Jerome J505 Mercury Analyzer, Ludlum 9-3, Ludlum 3001 BT, Ludlum Screening Kit 26-2, Gas Meter, Gas Trac, Freon Meters, True Defender.

CHAUFFUER - Engine 44 Decon
NOZZLE - Engine 44 Entry 1
BACKUP - Engine 44 Backup 1
CONTROL - HMTU 44 Chauffeur Backup 2 / Resource
DOOR - HMTU 44 Entry 2
Engine 44 Responds as a Engine Company to 1st, 2nd & 3rd Due areas. Respond as a HMTU from 42nd Street to about 125th Street or if Squad 18 or Squad 41 are not available. In Some cases if Engine 44 doesn't have 2nd Piece they may have a another Company bring it to the scene. A HMTU Engine is always assigned on Major Emergencies 10-60 not a Squad as a HMTU.

Squad 18 - Manhattan
Squad 41 - Bronx
Squad 61 - Bronx
Squad 252 - Brooklyn
Squad 270 - Queens
Squad 288 - Queens

Great video and information I always look forward to these videos. Question what if the hazmat engine is on a call and they need that company does another engine take it or do they fill in with another hazmat engine. As a retired firefighter/hazmat tech in St. Louis county it’s amazing the equipment it carries. Again that’s for doing this.

All Squads have a HMTU it’s just a Freightliner Cab. Never was added to the Bronx. Maybe one day.
