🌟FLEET FRIDAY 🌟 FDNY SOC SKID STEER / BOBCAT TRUCK

The FDNY SOC Skid Steer Truck is a 2004 Mack Granite Roll Off carrying a POD with a 2007 Skid Steer / Bobcat. The 2013 Skid Steer is kept in another Roll Off at The Rock (Fire Academy) The Unit is staffed by light duty SOC members or Rescue School Personal at The Rock.
The Trucks may be transported by back up companies Engine 35 or Engine 83 and Engine 260 and Engine 262.
The Truck also has extra helmets, gloves, eye protection, DOT Flares and Triangles & ABC Fire Extinguisher.
The unit is special called by Rescue Battalion or Chief of SOC to a incident were it may be useful such as collapses that need debris removal, warehouse pallet removal, brush fires, trench rescues, snow removal, tree removal, it has a hammer that also can be used to break pavement or debris.

Is there anything the FDNY does not have? LOL. They have to be the best equipped force out there! Some departments can barely buy the essentials.

@@SkylerFireno it is not, that belongs to the Tokyo fire department has more staff and more fire appliances and so largest in the world. And Cal Fire is biggest in the USA. Bigger budget, more appliances, more stations, has 40 airplanes and slightly more staff at peak times. Though you could go technical and say that national Chinese national fire and rescue administration is going to be the largest department and that Tokyo is the largest city department in the world, which would make NYFD the second largest city/urban dept.

​@@terguoNo that guy doesn't like Fire Trucks so much as he likes to tell everyone he's a Know it All. Cal Fire has a Bigger budget because it's a State Agency. As far as having 40 aircraft that's Great but the FDNY doesn't need 40 aircraft so it's a moot point regarding the FDNY. So Tokyo is the largest Municipal Fire Agency in the World. Well Good for them but I don't care about seeing Tokyo or Japanese Fire Service I Enjoy seeing Skyler's Fleet Friday on what the Largest US FD has in their inventory!! And what the FDNY has is Awesome! Sorry If I sound like a Smart Ass but I cannot stand Know it alls!😤

@@andycurran3327 Realistically, this is a specialized unit called when needed - I highly doubt the FDNY keeps one person bored out of their mind solely for this truck. When needed, it gets activated, and regular personnel who are certified and trained on this unit can utilize it, as per command's orders.

Now those Bobcats are riding in style. Most of them would be chained down on a flatbed being towed behind an F-550 or such. And y'know, given the environment, I'm not surprised the FDNY has a couple of skid-steer loaders. That video of the loader clearing out that building makes it apparent why they're so darn useful.

I've always been surprised that the POD system isn't used more here in the US. It's very common in Europe. Smaller depts especially could probable really benefit from a POD system. Why spend a million dollars or more for a Rescue truck, MCI Unit, Command Center, etc When you could spend the fraction of the cost and build PODs. .

Skyler, Great video! Nice to see the POD Hauler! A very useful rig! I am surprised that FDNY has not made a large diameter hose hauling POD. I would think that could work with the Super Pumper. The Skid steer is a multi use tool. I remember it being use at that HVAC shop fire. Was the Mack Granite, a used NYC Dept of Sanitation truck?

What type of training would the rescue/squad members get for operating the skid loader, and back hoe? Also how is the backhoe transported, is it like the skid on a pod? I’ve seen it used once for a collapse incident

Most Members that work on Rescues and Squads have the background of construction and have 2nd jobs that they use that equipment. They can train in house to use them. Backhoe is transported on a trailer I believe.
