That house is Benifold nr Headley in Hampshire. I visited it in June. That Austin car you see is Mick Fleetwood's. He had abandoned it at Eric Clapton's home in Surrey for years. He recovered it and had it restored years later and he now has it at home in Hawaii.

MsOndine...Very perfectly stated...I loved the earliest of FM, right up till about 1972 ( ? ) when Danny was let go. The players in the Band were all very gifted at making beautiful music, for those guys who have ignored Danny and his crash...how disgusting can they get? Danny was as good as Gold for this turbulent Band...and A Guitar Hero to me.

A classic example of how American classic Black Blues of the '20s -'50s were welcomed, almost worshiped, in England, ELECTRIFIED, and sent back "across the pond." The music was embraced enthusiastically by the youth of 1960s and 1970s America and the story continues TO THIS DAY! Kiln House also renowned for "Jewel-Eyed Judy," "Blood on the Floor," "Tell Me," and "Mission Bell." Forerunners of so many British groups who loved American classic Blues.

@YoGroucho, Peter Green was probably a genius, but they never exchanged straight blues for heavy bluesy rock before Danny Kirwan joined - just think about that. Danny brought new ideas to the band that years later were still used after Buckingham/Nicks joined. Apart from this, I think Danny Kirwan did his most stunning work on Future Games and Bare Trees. Brilliant guitar player, lovely singer and gifted composer. whose role is eternally being underplayed, especially by Fleetwood and McVie.

Missy Ondine Great comments. Danny was inspiriational in a quiet way to the band I believe. Much like Richard Wright was to Pink Floyd. You didn't notice what he did until he was gone. Richard Wright was fired by Roger Waters but David Gilmour brought him back. Unfortunately the same fate did not happen with Danny.

@cullions3, Actually I think Lindsey Buckingham is a stunning guitar player with an unique finger picking technique. Just listen to his very dramatic solo's in some of the I am so Afraid versions (the Mirage tour version (1982) is particularly outstanding) or his acoustic playing in Big Love where he sounds like two guitarists in one. But I happen to love Danny Kirwan as much as Lindsey with his haunting finger vibrato and his melancholic song and singing. He is just so overlooked,..

Lindsey Buckingham and the Nicks era FM are also very, very good in their own right...I dearly love the early FM, Green, Spencer, and Kirwin were all great and all had different things to contribute...the best way to be boring is to reject change, some are more accepting fo change than others. It's great that Green's better (certainly still damaged), this band is not unlike many others where so much talent exists and egos, differences get in the way,guess that happens in all area of life, huh.

@TheMichaelseymour, that's what I've been thinking for a while. Danny Kirwan was or is living in hostels for the homeless, while Mick Fleetwood has been spending millions on blow alone. Even worse, he and John McVie still got the guts to ignore Danny Kirwan almost completely, while he wrote the biggest part of the songs when he was in the band and they almost never wrote anything all.

@amin1950 I recall Bob Welch saying that Danny used Hiwatt amplifiers for a while. They look quite a bit like Marshall, and sound a bit similar to a Marshall while cranked up. I wish I could approach Danny personally, but I doubt he´s on the internet. I´ve read that he´s been going through some hard times, living on the streets, in hostels, mental hospitals etc. Hope he´s better these days, though!

This is truly "the roots" of Fleetwood Mac. A heavy Blues influence. The roots of The Fleetwood Mac rock n roll rhythm section is the blues. Enjoyed the video. I thought you're 1973 Midnight Special Video was rare, this video should be in the Fleetwood Mac museum. I'd love to see a video of Peter Green's "Black Magic Woman (most people, outside of hard core FM fans, don't know Peter Green wrote Santana's signature hit). The video reminds me of the woods band photos inside Penguin album cover.

It's such a shame that Jeremy Spencer lost it and walked out on Fleetwood Mac. I always felt that the Kiln house album showcases some real potential to make good music. Had they continued with Spencer; I think he would've written a lot of retro 50s-style Rock & Roll and Blues tracks that would've fit in well in the 70s. And of course Danny Kirwan would've had more room to flourish
@MissyOndine
@MissyOndine 13 жыл бұрын
@timmypeck, He was the replacement of Jeremy Spencer after he joined a religious cult. He, Christine and Danny shared the composition duties on Future Games and Bare Trees. And he shared the guitar parts with Danny, although Danny was more a lead player. After Danny was fired he shared the guitar parts on the next two records with lead player Bob Weston, who also was fired eventually because of his relationship with Mick's wife. After that Bob made his last album with FM in 1974.

The post Green Mac at their very best.. before Danny got that squawking Strat that he played way too loud and couldn't quite keep in tune, and when Jeremy finally fell into the real role as a true band member. The tracks played live and recorded during the kiln house era showed a tight 5 piece band, and I was really quite proud of Jeremy too, since previously , when not playing slide, he never really played *with* the other guitarists, feeling he wasn't really capable of fitting in with them. With Danny, however, he found his true musical soulmate, if only for a little while.This video, plus a listen to "Purple Dancer", which is Danny and Jeremy playing very tightly, should remove any doubt. I wonder if Jeremy's abrupt departure from the Mac might have been the trigger that set Danny off, since it was after that that he started drinking worse and often playing excessively loudly, and very poorly, live. Certainly there was absolutely no chemistry between him and Bob Welch, who essentially was brought in to replace Jeremy. Danny and Jeremy were my favorites in the Mac back then, and I still hold a high regard for them. Jeremy's recent albums, too, are just excellent!

MorroccoM13, Townsends bitter sounding comments are nothing new just as he did when Hendrix hit the scene . He new he was not the top dog & i think it bothered him something fierce .He was a awful lead played with some moments of brilliance as he showed at Leeds but he was never a good blues player nor does he have the feel Peter Green , Danny K, Jeremy S. had nor will he ever. Best to just say he was jealous as hell. He had the Who & as FM went to the top so his bitterness was boring & not called for .

@Putaspellonyou Not sure where this is from, but there is (or was anyway) a 12-part Peter Green Story here on KZbin that is largely about the early days of Fleetwood Mac. Not a lot of live footage, unfortunately, but well worth checking out if it hasn't been 'banned'. And music-wise (you may already know about all this), check out BlueIce's Fleetwood Mac channel - some cool old live videos of them, including Like It This Way, Oh Well, and Homework (very cool video).

@dobromeister Perhaps it was a mixture of both. By all accounts, Danny was treated badly, particularly by Bob Welch.
@RobbyByrne
@RobbyByrne 4 жыл бұрын
@dobromeister name the performances where drinking affected his gigs. And don't tell me it was in Seattle. While Bob did speak of Danny's musical prowess most of his public comments were derogatory in nature. Bob also ridiculed Peter Green. Same man who Bob tried to unsuccessfully copy during FM's concerts. Whether they were true or not is not the point. Have some respect. If you don't have anything good to say keep your mouth shut. Bob's ambition was well known. He didn't care who he stepped on. Mic praised Bob for saving FM. Not sure why, but the man who really saved FM was Danny. Boggles my mind why Danny is so underrated. The man wrote and performed most of the songs on Future Games and Bare Trees. Is there a tune on those albums, including Kiln House where he struck out? Same can't be said for Bob who lived off of one song.
@RobbyByrne
@RobbyByrne 4 жыл бұрын
@dobromeister I appreciate your passion for Bob. I like some of his tunes too, but to be honest when I listen to Future Games and Bare Trees I usually skip ( except Future Games ) his songs to get to Danny's. When enough time goes by I'll tune in. I'll even fast forward Future Games to the last 3 minutes just so I can hear Danny's incredible guitar riffs. What makes Danny's songs so unique is you don't get tired of listening to them. That doesn't happen too often with any musician so it's not a knock against Mr. Welch. When I spoke about Bob's music it was during that 71-72 period. He contributed very little to Bare Trees. Sentimental Lady is a good tune but it's too pop for me to say it was 4 stars. Bottom line, if you include Trinity, Danny orchestrated 6 songs during that Bare Trees period. I will say this. Danny left FM on the top of his game. Like a great athlete whose time was cut short by injury. Bob took over FM and came up with a dismal effort in Penquin, but rebounded nicely with Mystery To Me. That article you posted had me fuming until I read one of the replies and felt better having the writer called out on his facts. Have you thought about becoming a member of the Danny Kirwan face book page? It's a ton of fun. facebook.com/groups/939494226089879/
