I love the fact that Christine put the reporter into place by making his reference to them as being ladies and musicians instead of girls just being backup singers. These two are hugely different and recognized.

One of the best rock n roll bands of all time.😊 legendary. Nice to see the 3 lead singers and all 3 primary writers interviewed back in 1977, during their legendary meteoric rise while on tour for Rumours. Love seeing their sophistication here.

Unfortunately, Lindsey and Stevie had already broken up and Lindsey was already involved with Carol Ann Harris. This was an interview and so they would certainly project cohesion and harmony but Lindsey kept his distance from Stevie outside of the band. Stevie herself was already involved with Don Henley (Eagles).

@@michaelberthelot3594 - I disagree. The rythm section - the drums and the bass - is also a significant part of what make Fleetwood Mac a great band. Mick Fleetwood does an excellent job always, and John McVie is a top notch bassist - they both make the very solid foundation which on Lindsey, Christine and Stevie can display their brilliance. The girls were 2/5 of what made Fleetwood Mac great. I think they all equally deserve to share the glory of Fleetwood Macs greatness.

I love how they handled the question, but I wouldn’t consider it a BS question. I was impressed that the guy had thought of a question that I’ve never heard asked of Fleetwood Mac before. Maybe I’ve not spent a lot of time watching interview footage, but I thought it was an intriguing question and was interested to see how they responded to it. I’d love to hear more about their experiences as women in an industry dominated by men.

Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Maggie Bell, Elkie Brooks, Ann and Nancy Wilson, Julie Driscoll, Patti Smith, and many more .... all 'ladies in rock' in 1977 and before that, and far more than just 'pretty faces' as he puts it. Stevie and Christine were in very good company.

Yes Christine carried the group vocally until Stevie joined. People thought Christine resented Stevie but the truth was the opposite. She loved Stevie and welcomed here presence in the band. Christine was just as successful as a backing vocalist as she was as a lead vocalist.

I was their for the Rumors Tour and have only missed one tour (last one, $$ astronomical)...I have been listening to their, what is now, a very short catalog of albums with headphones on, and you realize their sound can never be reproduced with the summation of the 3.

Definitely overlooked as one of the guitar greats. So many songs he perfected with his choice of phrasing... Two of my favorite examples would be 1) You make loving fun at 2:35 the little solo there and 2) Dreams which his guitar work evoked every bit as much of a haunted, longing feeling as Stevie's singing. Lindsey had a great finger-style technique similar to Mark Knoplers

I was at a get together at someone's home and there was Stevie Nicks - so I went over introduced myself and said hello, we had a really lovely chat, she was really fun to talk with, smart, funny, charming and so beautiful in person. We talked for about 20 minutes, and were enjoying each others company, and then - her then-boyfriend showed up. A great memory.

Agree Lindsey was an amazing addition and is an amazing guitarist. His figer-style picking, chords and solos were perfect for every song. There's a ton of shredders out there, some great some not, but no other guitarist makes me feel the way Lindsey does. The guitar part he played in Dreams sounds like nothing else and evokes as much feeling as Stevie's singing.

I wondered about the timing too. Rumours was released on 4 February 1977, but he's not asking them about it in this clip, he's asking them about the history of the band. Maybe the album had just come out and was yet to acquire its classic status? But my understanding was that it hit big very quickly.

Fleetwood Mac was unique . I say “was”because without Christine McVie, may she RIP, it really isn’t Fleetwood Mac. It’s the only Rock Band of its era with two female leads that appealed to male listeners just as much as one with male leads would, and it was massively successful. I think much of that, most of it even, is due to Christine. Her voice had an androgynous quality that was attractive to all. Such a loss!

Good grief. Grace Slick fronted Jefferson Airplane a full decade earlier. Fanny was a successful all-girl band years earlier. The all-girl Liverbirds started in 1963. Kleenex was an amazing all-girl band year before this. How could the interviewer even have asked the question?

That was an era of a plethora of long lasting 4:38 bands bc we’d earned skills of compromise, diplomacy etc. Tough skin. Solo acts now. Very few bands. Certainly none the caliber of them. Everyone’s so touchy. Triggered. Self absorbed.

Christine is a massive part of the Fleet Mac sound, but Stevie's voice is the one that has the hook. And Lindsey's. Those two are the powerhouse on vocals. Such a solid band. Rumors is the King of the 70s

@@hale_jp_1957 I can see Christine McVie being portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence, she has a considerable resemblence to her from my point of view. And Stevie Nicks being portrayed by Anya Taylor-Joy. About John McVie and Mick Fleetwood no one comes to my mind really, they have very particular factions
