The British invasion had some dominating troops in its forces, from the powerful guitars of Led Zeppelin to the psychedelic rock of Pink Floyd, and of course we were all seeing red doors thanks to Rolling Stones. But this is about the standout gritty, against-the-odds enduring music of Fleetwood Mac, one of the most prolific bands of all time.
Over a hundred million records sold, venues alongside actual world leaders, awards for contributing to the very nature of music itself - all this success is even more astounding when you know the inner turmoil and shakeups that Fleetwood Mac endured over the years. I’m your host Nostalgic Nick, and if you enjoy examining this ever-changing band with us, be sure to give this video a thumbs up, and subscribe so you’ll catch our next jam sesh. But Without further ado, let’s find some dreams to sell.

@@jimblues21 The way I see it, they were two different bands. Green era was something totally different to the Buckingham era. I was too young to understand what was going on behind the scenes and to be honest, listening now to Rumours often makes me feel a little bit sick. Irony is, my daughter came home singing Don't Stop the other day as they sang it in music class. Later I explained to my wife why I don't like the song. She was quite shocked about the story behind it. I don't know how Buckingham and McVie could be around the rest of the group. They must be a lot more forgiving than I would've been... What happened with Peter Green was a tragedy. There was so much potential there...

I agree. Bob Welch's Hypnotized is a spookily brilliant song and just one of many great pieces he wrote (i.e. Mystery To Me, Bermuda Triangle & Sentimental Lady to name a few). If he had been permitted to stay in the band, they would have been an even greater group than they turned out to be. Very unfair that he was left out of the R&R Hall of Fame induction. My favorite person in FM has always been Christine McVie. She is the living soul of the band, and always had been since she joined. I think 'Say You Love Me' from their 'white album' is the best song in their history, (off their best album - great guitar work by Lindsey on that song, as well!) My 2nd choice is 'Hypnotized', from the Bob Welch era. I would rate their top 5 best albums as these; 1. Fleetwood Mac (1975) 2. Mystery to Me (1973?) 3. Bare Trees (1971) 4. Rumours (1977) 5. Then Play On (1969)

OK. Really enjoyed it but you sort of left out the Bob Welch years. He joined shortly after Jeremy Spencer left and he and Danny Kirwan made some fairly memorable LP's together; most notably to this listener "Bare Trees" which was Danny's swan song. Then along comes Bob Weston who may have had an affair with Christine McVie who was now John McVie's wife. One incredibly "spooky" song came out of this era and collaboration: "Hypnotized". Both he and Bob Welch left before, what was left of the band who had become "Americanized" found the core of what would bring the band their greatest riches.

@@LittleWing1985 thanks for the trivia, I really only care about the Bob Welch era . Not a Blues fan, and not much for AOR Pop, Bob Welch wrote much stranger songs, and the band wasn't as easy listening Captain and Taneil . Sure I don't know how to spell that right that is fine by me. Fleetwood Mac did 2 decent songs with the Hippie couple Rhiannon and Sisters of the Moon because they were both about Witchcraft

@@godetonter4764 just saying that Lindsey was not replaced with Dave Mason. Dave was a couple guitarists later. Agreed that Bob welch had some great songs.

@@LittleWing1985 thanks for the educational help. I just have gotten tired of seeing countless documentaries about Fleetwood Mac and all them speak briefly about Peter Green and Kirwan , then jump right into the Buckingham Nicks era usually taking up about 1 hour 45 minutes about their cocaine use and relationship drama, and what time is left skims over quickly what happened after Buckingham Nicks. That's probably why I didn't even know about the other line up changes . I don't Google or Wiki information, unless I need an address and phone number to a store. The latest Fleetwood Mac album I have ever owned is Tusk . I assumed that the band called it quits after mirage, until I watched more recent documentaries

@@godetonter4764 that's fair. I think the Peter Green ere is important to talk a lot about because that's kind of beginning of the band. but I think the reason the Buckingham Nicks lineup is talked about the most is because they kind of put them on superstar status. There was a lot of great stuff come out of the Bob welch era for sure. It would be nice to hear more about that but I think it's because there's a lot less scandal and drama that it's talked about less.

I’m have always preferred Stevie’s songs over the others but they have so many great ones. Hypnotized,Sugar Daddy,Brown Eyes ,Family Man & Hold Me are all fantastic songs. You can listen to an entire album & every song is completely different. I do think Lindsey made Stevie’s songs great. He’s under rated & so was Christine.

Totally 100% agree with Luis underneath, stop saying tragically when no one has been killed, it's so annoying . Fleetwood Mac are all rich people living high octave mega-livings due to their popularity as a band, there is nothing tragic about that!!!!! Stop click-baiting. You have put me right of your video's now.

Rumours is my all time fav. 70's album. I would say, Big Love is my fav. Fleetwood Mac song. On 1 of their best of albums there is an acoustic version of the song. That version is always on my playlists...

And the following are also my favorites for reasons i cant share cause i don't want to cry 2day; but here goes Tusk, Sweet little lies, tango, family man, Back of my mind Caraline, face behind the mask, freedom, & i like the blues version of You might not like from '66 or '67 verses the '87 version.

Seems to be a recurring theme with bands of this era, the rampant use of recreational drugs. There have been too many accounts of bands breaking up or losing members just because of out of control addictions.

Just to nitpick - the British Invasion refers to the period in 1964, maybe even 1965, in which bands and singers from the UK had big hits in the US. Not to Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd or Fleetwood Mac. A band which has not yet ended after a half century, just shifted lineups. It seems like a stretch to suggest 40-year-old rumors about Buckingham were the reason he was booted decades later, even if the consensus is that it came down to Nicks' feelings about him. Anyway, I suppose that felt like an ending of sorts, like Pixies without Kim Deal in their old age, and a tribute to the band is nice. My friends were into the original band 50 years ago but they didn't click with me til Buckingham and Nicks joined.

This is a great band! But you didn't mention that Bob Welch was once a member! I can't pick a favorite song by them, but I will say like I have so many times on other channels that Hotel California by The Eagles is the greatest song of all time! The album is great as well, but that song transcends everything! You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave!
