I had a female Flemish named "Kattie". She was so gentle and loving. I rescued her from some not so nice owners. Had her for a number of years with great memories. I used her poos to help in my compost pile and let her roam in the garden.She passed on after I had her for about 4 years. I miss her dearly! Thanks so much for this great content.

my grandfather raised rabbits. he used to tell me that these rabbits fed many people during ww2. there was a famine but those who raised rabbits could survive and keep their family alive. I don't know how much truth was in that story LOL but he told it often and was proud of it

I’m done with FG’s. Glad you are supporting the breed. They eat too much and take too much time to grow out. At 12 weeks, they are still all bone. They are very friendly, docile and easily become pets. Which, makes them heart-breaking to harvest.
@thetinyraptorfarm96494 ай бұрын
@@WhiteBreadThunder-op6in I actually agree in both manners. Over the past year or so we have learned that they are not worth it. The only thing that really grows on them are the legs. Every thing else is like you said, skin and bones. The eggs are good also and production is amazing but that is literally all they are good for. If you have too many roosters they will literally gang up on a hen and….. ya know….. I will honestly never get this bread again.

I would like to have one of these rabbits, I have owned quite a few rabbits in my life but never one this big. Can someone tell me if this type of rabbit can be snuggled with in bed at night for example? I have a disabled family member who spends much time in bed, and he would like a rabbit that he can snuggle with when watching tv. I hope the Flemish Giant would work out in this way. All of the prior rabbits we had in the past you could do this with. We used to have French Lops, Chinchillas, and Netherland dwarfs. Please answer anyone who has experience with these adorable rabbits.
@thetinyraptorfarm96498 ай бұрын
I would find one as baby, like as soon as the can leave their mom, and raise them up hanging out with your family member. But also these rabbits have a very hard thump and could hurt someone easier than a normal rabbit. But I have seen wemen carrying them around in their purse and they are completely calm all the time. So it’s just how much attention you give and how much love you give. I pray it works out for you and that this helps!!

What is the meat to bone ratio ? How long to maturity ? How much fat compared to a regular rabbit ? What does the meat taste like compared to a standard meat rabbit ?
@thetinyraptorfarm9649 Жыл бұрын
It’s all about the same really just bigger. I’m not sure about the meat to bone ratio. It’s around 5 months to maturity but they won’t be to full size until around 10 months. Hope that helped!
@itsskat3 Жыл бұрын
The meat is gummier so its recommended for stew but it has a fairly decent meat to bone ratio. Raising them to full size is not economical in feed to meat cost ratio but for fryers they are good meat rabbits particularly considering the meat is gummier anyways. So really only let the ones you plan on keeping get full size
@mikeyg2178 Жыл бұрын
I would absolutely use this breed for everything you mentioned, companionship first then the meat and fur. How long do they normally live for? Also I've heard that rabbits can die of fear, are these rabbits timid to that degree?
@thetinyraptorfarm9649 Жыл бұрын
No they are not timid at all! All the new babies we just had are all super friendly! They can live up to 10 years. Now when our chickens or cats get too close they start thumping in an attempt to scare them off but other than that they are awesome animals! The other day me and my son heard one choking and I don’t know the heimlich on small animals so I had to put him down. When I skinned it I had to use a razor blade and that barely work!! Their skin is so thick!! How that all helps!!

You can usually find them around $100 or less. It may depend on the rabbits size or the seller’s idea of how much they think they are worth. The bigger they are, the more they eat so they go for a pretty good penny. Hope that helps my friend!
