It really was amazing to be young, alive and a VH fan then! I used to be dismissive of ni=ostalgia, but once I hit my 50s I realized the joy of living in the 70s and 80s and the despair that it will never be that great again!

Alex's kit was the best looking drum set of all time...
@nathanwalsh30284 жыл бұрын
Agree!! 💯 That kit was a ludwig vista light kit that Alex had coated the inside with 1/4inch fibreglass so it could withstand David jumping on/off the bass drum. He went to ludwig early on in the eighties to get the kit made and realised he had to coat the drums with fibreglass for strength because as soon as Alex stood on the bass drum to test it, it cracked in half. He said in my modern drummer magazine from that year that it was one of the best sounding kits he ever had up until that point. Yes I am a complete geek when it comes to Alex. I even have a few of his old drumheads and old sticks from Alex circa 1979. Bought at an auction in 1982.
@kevinwilkins32483 жыл бұрын
@@nathanwalsh3028 lol I'm exactly the same and was about to post what you did about Al's awesome FW Vistalite kit until I read your post. This is still my all time favorite kit, but I also love his VHII, WACF, DD, OU812, 2007 Reunion, and 2015 tour kits. Heck, ALL of his kits were unique and amazing. He was a tinkerer and tone chaser just like Ed, but he never gets credit for his unique ideas and tones and superb playing. Still my favorite and the reason I started playing drums all these years later.

I hated it when he started to do overdubs in the hagar era...why??? no need to!!!! he is so f'ing good there is no need for stupid overdubs. none of that bs in the roth era. no electronic drums on any of the "Big Six" albums either.

Mike S, I agree that it's interesting to see these early '80s concert videos & KZbin is fantastic. I used to trade live cassette tapes by mail in the 80s & some bootleg video too. In 1985 I got my first bootleg video & it was Iron Maiden in Montreal '83. By '86/'87 camcorders got a bit smaller & bootleg videos became more common & the quality was getting alot better. A couple tapes I traded for in '87 are still amazing-(Slayer SF the Stone 11/3/'86 & Possessed in Baltimore 2/7/'87). ---I hope VH has a vault of Roth era concert films, it would be so amazing to see full shows from '78 to '83. I haven't heard any rumours.

****ing Awesome! This tour was my first time to see VH in concert. It was the best concert I have EVER seen live! Words can’t describe how ****ing awesome it was. My only regret is that the first time I discovered VH was when they played my home town for the first time in 1980 on the World Invasion tour and a local radio station played only VH the entire night. That night was life changing. I so regret I didn’t “know” to go see them in concert in 1980. So sad 😩

I agree. I saw them in 1979 in San Jose Ca. The were awesome from what I can remember. After the show as we were leaving , we saw Limos leaving the show, so we started following the limos and cars that were following them. They pulled into, I think was the Holiday Inn, . We ran up to the limos and Eddie and Alex got out first. My friend Tony shook Eddies hand. When I tried a giant bouncer stepped in front of me, Oh well. Then Dave got out, He Was Wasted, with like 4 fine girls holding him up. That was so awesome, I was only 19 yrs old. And Aerosmith cant hold a candle to Van Halen and never will. VH FOREVER
