Fletcher Loyer had a tough night for Purdue as the Boilers fall to UConn 75-60 in the national title game. Here is what he had to say afterwards in the locker room.

As a Nebraska fan, I, along with a sports bar of 200 people in Lincoln, was cheering for our B1G friends tonight. On behalf of Husker Nation, I congratulate Purdue for an INCREDIBLE season and commend this team for the high bar it set for greatness within our conference and the country at large. This Boilermaker team was so fun to follow and watch, especially this postseason: great personalities, legendary talent (Fletcher’s effortless 3 pointers), and head-spinning plays. I’ve nothing but respect for the Purdue men’s basketball team, coaches, and fanbase. Class acts all around! #BoilerUp #B1G #WayToRep

I feel bad for these kids having to do interviews after a loss. But I hope they all know how proud Boiler Nation is of them! There was no letdown this year. They got to where they were supposed to get, the reality is UCONN just has a better roster. I'm also SO glad our coach is not a.... well, I'll just say I'm glad our coach is such a class act! Can't wait for next year!

So absolutely proud of this group of guys and the basketball program Painter maintains. For all those with negative comments and criticism, remember these are young men, really, just kids. They are human beings and not robots. Keep up the good work Boilers!! We will see you and love you all over again next year.

I know we are proud of each and every one of you. It was such a pleasure to watch you guys throughout this whole season. Thanks for everything. You guys are the best! Boiler up!

Some trolls on this site today for some reason watching Purdue videos to rub it in... let's take an inventory of what the Fletch and all the sophomores have done at Purdue so far ... D-1 for 2 years in the B10, 63 wins, 2 conference titles, 3 tournament wins (b10 and 2 in HI), 1 final 4, 1 national final and, 2 YEARS LEFT, 17 months ago he was still a high school player essentially.... 17 months ago these guys (Fletch, TKR, Smith a few more) had not played a college game yet... They were not highly recruited really--- It's astonishing to see this trajectory for development and success.

This sucks for this dude but let this be a career changing experience, this Purdue staff needs to get this kids mind and body right, he got pushed around a lot this season against good teams and couldn’t regroup after bad half’s, he could have 3 more years on his career with a grad year, more than enough time to put on 25 more pounds and keep the shot and athleticism. Purdue is going to need him to be better without a dominate big man next year.

If I'm not mistaken, he has 2 more years, unless something happens to him and he would have a medical redshirt. The covid year is over for these young'uns...

Beat Marquette, too. 10-1 vs ranked opponents. And let's be honest, UCONN has won every tournament game by double digits the last TWO years. Would've been the same result regardless of the team.

What happened to the 3s
@huntstyleАй бұрын
They didn't double Edey, perimeter defenders stuck to their guys. We get most open 3's when they double Edey. Would have liked to see some screening action on the perimeter to get some guys open for 3. But credit UCONN, they have a great defense, and they had much more size on the perimeter to make it tough on our guys.

Purdue has 1 (maybe)... the margin of victory should have been bigger... read again what I wrote first.. this kid and his mates are the best 2 guards in 50-100 years at Purdue, with 2 years to go

@@Hal-lj7kp If Painter had gotten another athletic player out of portal, or if Jaden Ivey hadn't gone pro, they might have had a chance. Boilers were over matched last night. Clark K said at half that Uconn backcourt outscored Purdue 29-12 in first half!!

Fletcher Loyer should be embarrassed. He shouldn’t even be playing D1 basketball, let alone starting at Purdue. It’s truly baffling. Kid barely recorded a single stat with 30 minutes of playing time. Unreal.
