Episode 67 - Please watch this video in its entirety!
If you have not seen any of Amara's videos I would suggest that you watch episode 60, 61 and 62 before you watch this video (links below). We rescued a Belgian Draft Horse from Bowie Texas Livestock, on May 13, 2023. From the livestock yard video it looked like Amara had been in some sort of accident as she was covered in abrasion all down her left side and had a large puncture wound on her back hip. We immediately got her to the vet on the way home from the livestock yard for the medical attention she needed. We got her wounds fixed up at the vets office and went home with some antibiotics since she did have an infection. We had her on the road to recovery but we had an emergency situation with her a few weeks later.
I went out to the barn to feed everyone and Amara was laying down and would not get up. Any horse owner knows that a horse that will not get up on their own is a very serious situation. We got Amara rolled over to her good side and she stood up on her own. After she was standing for a bit she tried to lay back down. So we rushed her down to the animal hospital and Dr Waggoner treated her for mild colic. Dr Waggoner thought that she went down possibly in the first place because she wasn't feeling well and not because of on issue with her leg. She did stay at the vet for two day to get fluids for dehydration and for some additional tests to be ran. Amara has had a stiff neck since we brought her home, probably from her original accident. Amara can not lower her head to the ground so her feed bowls need to be elevated.
When we got Amara back from the hospital after her 2 days stay we noticed she was very weak in her back legs. Since she still did have an infection Dr Waggoner wanted to recheck her to see if the infection had cleared up. In this video you will see her vet appointment. At that appointment we found out that she had severe arthritis in her neck with some possible disk disease that could be causing neurological issues associated with the weakness in her back side.
Dr Waggoner's treatment plan for Amara was to do shockwave therapy. Shock wave therapy is a super-sonic wave of focused sound energy that pulses through the body. As it passes through cells, it stresses them into releasing healing proteins, which has a positive effects of increasing blood flow, decreasing inflammation, accelerating bone growth, releasing muscle tension while providing pain relief in horses. Amara also is going for chiropractic adjustments on her neck, back and hips which is shown in this video.
Amara was doing so much better after her treatments! She was on the road to recovery, getting all the alfa pro, hay, belly scratches, neck massages, love and attention she deserved. We were giving her the retirement life she deserved. I had this video all completed and ready to be uploaded and last week we had an unexpected turn of events with her. Please watch this video in its entirety.
A HUGE thank you to our veterinarian, Dr Waggoner at Mobile Veterinary Practice along with all the staff and medical students. Our horses receive the best medical attention and we don't know what we would do without y'all!

Euthanizing animals who DESPERATELY NEED help out of their bodies that -- have long since failed them is nothing short of a GIFT! Animals ... whose OWNERS/FAMILIES and their bodies have FAILED THEM ... and giving them the last act of kindness ...is one of the BIGGEST AND KINDEST GIFTS that your group offers! Please NEVER FORGET THAT or minimize that gift! The thought of that or any equine (any animal) going to SLAUGHTER after being in AGONY and stood on in TRANSPORT TRAILORS for weeks or months on end is so INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT!!! PLEASE SUPPORT THIS RESCUE and help them help so many animals! Its so very important! Thank you FLETCHER FARMS!❤

I know them well in PA & they treat them & talk about them as "expendable", "chun horses" (percheron, draft etc) , "we'll just buy another one" & all other sorts of BS words angry 😡 😤 We buy apples & horse treats & give them to their horses when we see them in the fields & espically Bcuz we KNOW their I wners D.O.N.T. do or give the horses 🐎 ANYTHING SPECIAL. !! They NEVEER wash the horses & the poor Mules R beaten to a pulp too. We've seen it first hand.!! @@erika7674 You‘re right. Nevertheless farmers in former times took care for their working animals. But today there are possibilities like vets to care for ill or wounded animals. And there is no excuse for letting them suffer like the poor draft horses on Amish farms. These people abuse the horses and throw them away instead giving them a retirement these poor souls deserve. Seems that no animal living at Amish shown any love by these … people 🤮

@ritamatthews2942 I love your imagining thunder is horses galloping. Whenever my percheron mare runs, I have always said it sounds like thunder! She is not running much these days, like Amara was, she is in pain-with ringbone & has PSSM. This was hard to watch on so many levels. One for Julie's heart ache, another for Amara's pain that just couldn't be eradicated, & three because I know this is coming with my 20 year old perch who was rescued by her previous owner from a Premarin "farm" & later we had the privilege to adopt her when we bought the farm from her owner. She gets to stay at the home she was brought after rescue & grew up in from a Premarin philly to a beautiful black huge perch mare. Thank you, Julie, for sharing your life & love for horses with us. Grieving with you now & when the opportunity presents itself, rejoicing later over all the horses who are thriving & maybe another rescue.

As a result of 40 years as a RN & as many as an animal owner, I am convinced that animals ( & frequently humans) know when it is time for their passing back to God who created them. Given the choice they prefer to be where they feel safe, loved and peaceful. You and everyone you trust your animals with certainly provided that to Amara, Lucky, and all the other creatures in your care. Can you think of a better way to end your life than in the place where you feel most peaceful and surrounded by those who've loved and cared for you? Yes, tears will flow & the heart will be bruised, but I pray you find comfort in knowing how amazingly wonderful your acts of kindness are to these horses. Thank you, & God Bless.❤️

How very, very special and loving you and Cory are….the time and love you give these horses are the very thing that they need at the point they come to your farm. It breaks my heart to see and hear how very sad you are. Nothing anyone can say to make the pain go away or lessen but the love you gave was never wasted. Thank you for being you and for Cory being the person he is.

You and Cory showed Amara what true love really is. She was loved until the end and didn't pass away alone. Y'all did everything you could for her and that is what meant the most. Amara is running those pastures in the sky. Thank you for saving these beautiful horses. Sending hugs and prayers

Heartbreaking! I don't know how you do this, but I'm so glad that you are there for these precious horses who have given their lives to hard labor for the benefit of their keepers! I join together with all of your supporters in lifting you up spiritually in order to strengthen you in these difficult times. I hope that you feel the love and compassion that we all feel for you as you minister to these gentle giants.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Amara probably had more loving care and attention in the short time you had her than she'd ever had before, judging by her condition and injuries. At least she didn't have to suffer the terrifying journey, crammed into a transport truck, towards a horrifying slaughter process. She was given the peaceful ending in loving arms. Thank you for what you do.

Love you, Amara. So sorry evil human beings did this to you. So grateful good human beings cared for and loved you in the end. We should all be ashamed of the brutal trade in horse meat and PUT A STOP TO IT. Would love to know what an individual can do to help advocate for the end of the horse meat trade. Thank you to Fletcher Farms Amarillo for doing the work and manifesting genuine human compassion on a daily basis.

A sweet lady that graced all of our lives through you and Corey. Thank you for bringing her to your sanctuary and giving her a loving last act of kindness. Her obvious hard lift ended so softly and sweetly on the wings of angels. Farewell, Amara. We know you are healed, no pain, and running free with a happy, grateful heart.

I’m at a loss as what to say Julie, I am so very sorry for the loss of beautiful sweet and adorable Amara. The last bit of her time with you were probably the best in her life. She knew she was very much loved by you Cory and everyone that came into her life. RIP beautiful Amara, run free from all pain. I know that you are upset Julie as will all your subscribers be but I know that you will carry on with the amazing work that you do for these majestic beautiful horses. I used to live in Colorado, if I ever get out to where you are I would love to come and see you and the amazing draft horses you have rescued. ❤

Oh my, I was crying right along with you. The one thing you can console yourself with is that the last days of her life she got to know what love is. I know from experience how hard it is to put a horse down. Keep up the wonderful work you do, those horses need you desperately. Have you ever tried Red Cell ( a Iron-rich vitamin & mineral supplement made by Horse health Products) it is a great product.

Julie, get some rest, baby. This one took a lot out of you. They always do. You couldn't have done more for her, you gave her a soft landing and love after a lifetime of pain. She knew, as you did, that we have to play with the cards we're dealt. She let you know she was ready, and you helped walk her out. Brave girls, both.

As a 49 year old woman with 2 forms of debilitating arthritis and severe degenerative disc disease, my heart aches for this sweet horse. She deserved so much more than what life gave her. I’m thankful that her last months of life were spent with those who loved her and wanted what’s best for her. Sometimes the physical pain becomes so overwhelming, unrelenting or exhausting it becomes too much. Rest easy Amara 💜
