Whoever choreographs their programs is fricking amazing
@mizjohs Жыл бұрын
Juliann, I couldn't agree with you more. Tessa and Scott's ability to pull off literally anything that a choreographer could imagine--performing it brilliantly, effortlessly--has had the effect of inspiring the designers themselves. Torvill and Dean used to complain about how hard it was to keep coming up with new moves, but Virtue and Moir's versatility has resolved that issue by elevating choreographic creativity and imagination to a level never seen before.

I'm not an emotional person but the fact that it's their last Nationals made me emotional. What they've done for the sport it will never be matched. And that moulin rouge song at the end just made my tears fall.

It's a modern Shakespeare story painted by Leonardo da Vinci being unfolded right before us, so much depth, detailed and 3D. There is no TURN-IN knees or DISTORTED body lines whatsoever. She is a jewel and he is the perfect crown for her, absolutely the royalty of ice dance today.

In response to Christian Margeric who claims that Papadakis and Cizeron are the future of ice dance, I offer this response: They have been skating the same safe and pretty ballet for at least three years. Very well mind you, but just that, safe and pretty. Perhaps you did not get the memo. Ice Dance is an Olympic sport since 1976. Mute the music and replace it with last year’s music, or the year before that, there’s hardly any difference. If the future of ice dance is safety in sameness, we are doomed. Thankfully we have teams like Virtue and Moir and others who are not afraid of renewing themselves, exploring other genres and taking chances.
@michael10436 жыл бұрын
Christian Argeric has changed its name. It is now called Jean merdemonreal. Translated, this is supposed to mean “ I get under Montreal’s skin “. Again, it has overevaluated its importance to us.
@rafearcher78826 жыл бұрын
...but you don't seem to understand that beside their very ballet-like free programs, they show off their other styles in the short dances. V/M skate a very brutal LP - It just hits you in the face and that's it. I don't see the emotion in their slow sections, there is a total loss on presentation - They just DON'T sell Satine and Christian properly and I say this because Moulin Rouge is one of my favourite movies of all time, not to take them down, but because they lack acting ability.
@michael10436 жыл бұрын
Rafe Archer We will have to disagree on this. I think their acting abilities are second to none. Even when they were younger and less experienced they were great performers. If anything I think they overact in this one, especially Scott. For what’s it worth, I’m not entirely sold on this program choice. I much prefer Papadakis and Cizeron in the free, even if we can argue that they are playing it safe. What i find distracting in this program is the sense that I’m watching two different programs. It’s almost as if they are pushing the technical aspect in the first half, then they banter to the audience with the more cutesy music at the end. Although I will admit they are pushing themselves. They have added more difficulty in the second half, with added twizzles.
@rafearcher78826 жыл бұрын
Exactly, it's his overacting, but overacting is being part of having not much acting or drama knowledge. They still really need to improve on that part 'til the Olympics. In their first version of their program, they wanted the ending to be a silent masterpiece with showing the scene of the curtain falling and Satine dying - I guess they removed it to get more PCS - I as a coach or skater would have done it differently: I would have stayed with the curtain falling at the end, but I would also have shown the finale right before it - musically, it would have been possible.
@judycarrasco746 жыл бұрын
This program impresses me so much because it emphasizes their versatility. If ice dance is the marriage between athleticism and artistry, this program is a fine example. I think their acting is on point and they sell the story beautifully.

Let's not forget (as most people do) that Torvill and Dean achieved perfect scores of 9 x 6.0 for artistic impression in international competition not just once (Olympics 1984 being the one everyone seems to remember), but four times in total, the other occasions being the World Championships in Helskinki in 1983, for their Barnum free dance, and the Worlds in in Ottawa in 1984, where they achieved the perfect score for both the original set pattern dance (the equivalent of today's short dance) as well as for the free dance. They also achieved a perfect row of sixes for their free dance in the British Championships in 1994. There was a lot more to them than just Boléro!

This is beyond ice dance... People who said that this is simple...it s a tango basically so you do the math. P/C is a wonderful program thanks to the glorious choreography but it's not so demanding as this one. And beside, they always dance on the same kind of music... There is no story behind, it's just skating fast and doing languid and fluid movements, which I really like and appreciate but they are not as skilled and as versatile as this two. Certainly P/C have all the potential to become great champions but I don't think that this season the Canadians deserve second place, they deserve first for all the above mentioned. It will be very tough in peyongchang!
@charnierpradita57165 жыл бұрын
Making it look easy doesn't mean it is easy. P/C choreo are very demanding. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not there. Many skaters can do a V/M type of program. How many could do P/C with such virtuosity ? There is a reason why they are so successful.

I'm well aware of this Christian fellow. You do what you feel best. To engage in him gives him power and voice. Best approach is not even to reason with him. Past and present (Junior and Senior) skaters speaks very highly of v/m's skating talent and skills for years now. Their voice and opinion count the most, even he (Christian) or others like him can't take away any of it with his/their words nor compete (professional skaters) with that. Tessa and Scott know this too.

Tracy Wilson says they are the best ice dancers ever. That may be true. But. What Tracy doesn't know (or knows but won't comment on), is that this sport is controlled by the corrupt ISU. The ISU wants the French team to win the Olympics because it's their turn. The Canadians don't stand a chance - even with their well deserved perfect scores here at Canadian Nationals. You cannot defeat the ISU - even if you are perfect. That may be unfair, but it is the reality of figure skating. Mark my words - the medals have already been decided and handed out and it sadly will be Silver for Virtue and Moir at the 2018 Olympic Games.
@michael10436 жыл бұрын
Galileocan g you’ll have to explain that one to me. How is it their turn, or anyone else’s ? If there were pressure politics going on, I would be more worried about Skate Canada and the Americans. That’s where all the money is, and where almost all the choreographers and coaches are. Without the North Americans the ISU is toast. And remember, no Russian officials this time, which means one less collusion opportunity for Didier Guailhaguet. In any case, all the conspiracy theories when your favorite team doesn’t come first are really tiresome and only discredit skaters and the sport. I’m quite confident that the IOC will have a close eye on the ISU.
@greatscot7126 жыл бұрын

Yupp, that's better ^^ It's gonna be a tough fight in Pyoengchang depending on what the judges will favorize in the FD. Now there's a story from beginning 'til end (It still could be worked out better, but the ending is okay). Still can't get over P/C and their performances. It's really odd, but over the last couple years the French became my favorite pair and Virtue/Moir were my favorite pair before. I always liked different styles and always started to root for a pair that's succesful but skating differently than everybody else in the field. It's like V/M perfectionized the technique of this sport and P/C revolutionized the artistry. It's gonna be a photo finish :o)
@mariem2016 жыл бұрын
How can P/C revolutionize the artistry when they have been doing the same free for 5 years?
@rafearcher78826 жыл бұрын
Everybody has it's own style and lives up to it. It's quite inappropriate to bash people for that. There were no valid points left to bash P/C properly so you people decided to "phantom-criticize" them. Not cool.
@mariem2016 жыл бұрын
I don't criticize them for their style. I criticize them for not daring or even trying to do anything different, sticking with their comfort zones. Every single team has their comfort zone and style yet every single one of them has taken risks and elevated the sport doing so. I have no respect for skaters who do the same routine year after year after year. And I have plenty to criticize Gabrielle about. Number one being her crooked knees. Dancing is supposed to be beautiful to look at but her posture is atrocious, and her skating skills at the junior level. Guillaume skate rings around her and deserves a much better partner. He is great, she not so much.
@rafearcher78826 жыл бұрын
Lol! Then don't you ever wonder that people are that furious and criticize Tessa for being a "slow cow". How people can not see the beauty of the French is totally beyond me. Both pairs have qualities and everyone will chose whoever they like, plain simple. Gabriela is a beautiful young woman and already one of the greatest ice dancers of all time. Yes, dancing can be beautiful - when you understand that dancing is not mainly about kitsch, but about natural moves. Hardly anyone wants the best technicians, because very often they are boring. V/M are not boring, but there's not enough soul left from their younger skating years. They're simply outdated. It's not up to date to force perfection. Let it gooo, let it gooo... it's really that easy :D

This is a great program! Wonderful technique and beautiful skating, but it still won’t be enough to beat the French team at the Olympics. Unfortunately scoring this year has already shown that P/C are scoring higher than V/M so the OGM is there’s barring any major foul ups with their skating. Hopefully V/M will just enjoy the moment, which I know they will and will be proud of their overall success in returning to amateur skating.
