i used to work in a rod factory where i would coat 20 rods at a time,i no it seems crazy but once you get good at it,and a steady hand ,the rods would get 1 massive coat then i use the hairdryer to manipulate and take off ,or shift the epoxy,great video.

Hi there,Evening sir,Nice video. But am wondering what size rods can be done/used with the fm200 fishing machine?
@flexcoatcompany
@flexcoatcompany 4 жыл бұрын
The 200 rpm is optimal for inshore lite to medium rods, which happen to be 90% of the rods produced. Heavier rods require a slower RPM. Our new variable speed DC motors will cover speeds from 16 to 400 rpm when we get all models ready for retail sales later this year. Currently we have one DC motor available that goes from 40 to 200 rpm and features our precision slip clutch and self adjusting chuck. Here is a link to that motor: flexcoat.com/shop/rod-building-equipment/motors/variable-speed-dc-gearmotor

Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup kzbin.infoUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

Yes, it can be used on the whole rod, but in this case, I would recommend a clear coating in a spray can that is sold at any big box hardware store. Use a good brand like Krylon and get the product that is for coating plastic. Here is a link: www.krylon.com/products/triplethick-crystal-clear-glaze/ Our epoxy finish is best on the guide wraps.

Roger I received my High Build Formula Rod Wrapping Finish Epoxy, i mixed The Resin and Hardener following one of your You tube i was mixing it slowly but i created a lot of bubbles room temperature was 84 deg. the only way i get rid of the bubbles was heating it up a little bit with a torch. Do i need to warm up both bottles before using it. Thanks
@flexcoatcompany
@flexcoatcompany 5 жыл бұрын
It is always a good idea to warm your finish prior to measuring and mixing. You want it warm to the touch or about 90 degrees F. This will help in measuring easier because the 2 parts will level easier and it will help mixing because it will combine better and have less bubbles. Mix with a round non-porous stirrer until it is crystal clear. Scrape the sides and bottom and make sure to combine all the part A with the part B. A few bubbles are no big deal but avoid a foamy mix. Once mixed pour it out on a paper plate covered with aluminum foil. This will extend the pot life and extend your working time. Check out our measuring and mixing video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/horOp4eEobN1mtE

I would copy the best similar rod spacing that you can find until you think you can do better spacing. I would use A weight under wraps and D weight over wraps. Fuji thread is great. We use it. Try to design your wraps so that you don't use color preserver. Two coats of Flex Coat finish that soak into the thread makes for a super strong finish.

We are located in Texas where the humidity runs between 70 to 120%, I have never had any problems. You need to make sure that you are mixing your finish thoroughly. Mix it until it is completely clear. Big difference between 99% and 100% mixed. Don't rush it. Well measured and mixed finish is key to success.

@flexcoatcompany
@flexcoatcompany 2 жыл бұрын
Second coat is another mix, hours apart from each other. The length of time between coats can range from 6 hours to days, weeks, months, years. Just be aware that it is important to keep the rod and finish clean between coats. The longer you wait, the more chance of getting some contamination on the rod. Keep it clean.

@flexcoatcompany
@flexcoatcompany 3 жыл бұрын
@@lewkono1714 With a heat gun, you do run the risk of stirring up dust in your shop. Another reason to keep you shop and finish area clean. I haven't used a bunsen burner since highschool (the early '90's) so I don't have good experience with them, but I would imagine that it could work well. We also use a large torch like for sweating pipe. Since it is big and very hot, we use a very rapid waving technique to keep from scorching the finish.

I had a friend who was a custom rod builder and repairer. From watching him , his rod turning machine seemed to run about half the speed of yours. Is there an optimum speed or is it just preference?
@flexcoatcompany
@flexcoatcompany 6 жыл бұрын
Ultimately it is all preference in custom rod building. This is how we do it. Most rods that we build are smaller inshore rods. Most of the rods on the market today are smaller inshore rods. 100-200 RPM is great for these sizes. However, bigger off shore rods do better turning slower, around 18 RPM. At any speed we believe that a slip clutch is a must. To be able to reach up and stop the rod on a dime while you touch up hard to reach spots is the way to go no matter what rod or speed. If I had to finish a rod slower than 100 RPM, it would be painfully slow.

How to remove bubble in flex coat?
@flexcoatcompany
@flexcoatcompany 4 жыл бұрын
To help eliminate bubbles you should warm the finish prior to mixing to about 90 degrees F. Then, once mixed, pour the finish out on aluminum foil so it will spread out, pop bubbles and aid in a longer pot life or working time. Jerry Mander I will say that the faster RPMs tend to help a ton with getting it really even. Guess the combination of the force spreading it a little and helping it to tack up a little quicker.

@@yelekaw,Hi there,Evening sir. What did your spinning/holder system run you cost wise? Where did you get it? & what size rods will it accept/hold? Thanks in advance.

@@roniler7960 It was a RodSmith dryer I got at Janns Netcraft. They're a 2 piece system you can space to whatever rod length you want. I don't use it anymore, have upgraded to a power wrapper you can toggle to a dryer.
