A weakness can be a strength, and vice versa. ie The fact the gorilla tape is less sticky can be a good thing if it means you can reposition it or peel it off more easily. Same with the stretching. Also you get twice the amount for the buck. Gorilla wins overall if you ask me!

The Gorilla Tape stretched but then returned to the original length after you set the weight down, which comports to your early on comment that the Gorilla Tape felt "rubbery". The Gorilla Tape would have won hands down if it had the same adhesion as the Flex Tape. The fact that you pulled the backing from the Gorilla Tape easier demonstrated why it didn't stick quickly. Good test and fair evaluation. Thanks for the comparison.

In Wisc we have property and have a trailer and behind trailer we have a large vinyl garage that we store mowers, ladders etc inside. One year a heavy tree branch fell on it and punctured the vinyl garage, and left a hole w a tear about 4x7 inches. Various patches would not stay, but about 2-3 years ago I bought some Flex tape and applied it from inside of vinyl garage and the hole was on the curved area of the vinyl garage. I applied a large strip of FlexTape w about 2-3” excess past the hole on each side, And I have to say I’m very happy with the results! Worked excellent for my purpose. Tried some on roof of our trailer though but it did not stay. Maybe flex paste would. I may try that next.

We have used both and they both work well and when applied to a dry prepped surface there is not difference. Other than the "Flex Tape" is twice the price as the "Gorilla Tape" (Per foot)... We now use the Gorilla Tape since it works much better for sealing trailer roofs since it is more flexible and found the stiffness of the Flex Tape during the hot summer months starts to leak... Whereas the Gorilla Tape adhesive will seal better after it heats up..... And it's 1/2 the price of Flex tape...

Actually there are A LOT of variables in trying to do testing like this. How big the hole is and how deep the water is make sure you difference and pressures and what not. So doing a test in a bucket isn't going to relate to a hole in the side of an above ground pool towards the bottom cuz there's crazy amount more pressure and weight pushing down on it. Good preliminary testing regardless so at least I have an idea of what I'm looking at now so thanks.

I used Flex Tape last year. I had major difficulty trying to cut it because the glue from the tape stuck to my scissors and also to a knife I tried to use. It was also next to impossible to start peeling the backing off. I was using my fingernail to try to separate the backing. I finally got the backing off, and the tape is still holding over a year later on an inside project. But edges of the tape are starting to lift up on the outside project. I also tried the liquid on a metal shed roof, but it wouldn’t spread. I think the metal was just too hot. The temperature was in the nineties and the roof was in direct sunlight. So I didn’t finish the shed roof, but I’m going to try again, now that it’s cooler outside.

Half the patch came off clean and allowed pool water to leak onto the cover, while other parts were stuck pretty good. I had cleaned the area with windex first. Second time around, I cleaned it with windex, then wiped it with acetone, applied patch, then hit it with the heat gun. Its been pretty much glued to the cover for about 3 months and has not leaked (2 patches). A friends dog (chocolate lab) came over, jumped on the pool cover the other day and ripped a new hole and just applied another patch. The cover is old and needs to be replaced, but I just want it to last through the winter. I just bought some flex tape and was wondering if they were the same. Thanks for tests.

Cost is a big factor for me because I need to buy 15 more feet for tarp repairs for tents over my boats. I used 5 feet of flex tape on a southern exposure area that was the worst. After reading comments I am going to risk going for the gorilla tape for the remaining 15' of repairs. It seems its glue has slower "initial tack" but gains bond strength over some hours. I will apply while the surface is clean and dry therefore, to avoid issues of low initial tack. Also, the comments indicate that gorilla tapes strong bond over time, its stretching and recover of shape from stretch or heat, and UV resistance is superior to flex tape, and those are the qualities I need, not plugging a flood of water. The spots I need to repair also are on irregular curved spots passing over tent pipe elbows and the flex seal tape had trouble conforming. Sounds like gorilla tape will stretch and conform better. When I drained the pool over winter to clean the calcium build up off the 15 year old liner ( PVC on site welded liner) , I replaced the 2 patches with coloured vinyl and glued it with pvc pipe cement after priming it with their primer, it stuck so well it was not coming off. 6 months later I have another small hole and tried gorilla tape, it sticks really well to dry stuff but not so well under water, it sticks more like a fridge magnet but has stopped the leak. I don't vacuum over it just in case. My pool is a dream to keep clean compared to before removing the calcium build up with hydrochloric acid.

I have a flat roof that has Gaco silicone coating on it. It developed a few cracks and was leaking. After watching your video I went out and purchased one roll of each. It was barely sprinkling when I attempted to make the patch. However I made sure that I wipe the area down with dry rags and also sprayed it with alcohol to facilitate the water evaporating. It certainly wasn’t completely dry but there were no drops of water. Sadly neither products worked at all. In fact when I went to rub them down they kept moving because they did not adhere. I will try it again on a sunny warm day but as far as it’s sticking to moisture that did not happen in my case. It may be because it doesn’t stick to silicone.

Hey! I am trying to find some waterproof tape to fix my above ground pool I am so glad I ran into your channel. I was on the fence about which one of these to get. I think I've decided on the flex tape even though I am going to have to use more than one roll. I actually didn't like the way the gorilla tape performed. The liner is coming detached from the rim of the pool and the gap is quite wide long and wide. This has been going on for a while so I figured I had better do something. I don't want to drain the pool at this point and have someone fix it. Thank you for your review.

Had a small hole in my kiddie pool that needed to be patched. Bought the Gorilla Tape since is was twice the length of the Flextape for the same price. I also found that the Gorilla Tape took some time to get it to stick to the pool liner. Put a patch on both the inside and the bottom of the pool liner. Will check this afternoon to see if the patch has sealed. The only problem I had was getting the roll to start unrolling. The edge of the roll had adhered to the black face and it took some doing and tearing of the tape to get it going. Was a little surprised at how well it had stuck to the black face since when I pulled off the clear liner, the tape did not seem that aggressively sticky. Thanks for this video, it really helped!
@CLIFFWILKES5 жыл бұрын
So after my statistics study and watching your video if you calculate everything Flex tape would win an overall quality product however I would choose Gorilla Tape due to the fact of pricing if you calculated you would get so much more times more in Gorilla Tape for your money and you can just patch that hole three times or more going off the equivalency of pricing just saying thank you for the video by the way

So I have a cracked DE pool filter - had tried mending it from the inside with fiberglass several times and it kept leaking again after a while. Just tried the gorilla tape on it (bought it before I saw this review). I did have to press it a bit around the edges, but on starting the pool filter up again, it's under about 15+ lbs of pressure and not leaking. The crack was narrow and about 2 or 3 " long. Yeah, I need a new filter casing, but this will hold me for a while I think.
@Jeffreviews4u4 жыл бұрын
Have you heard of bondic? I did a review on it recently: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nabRoqZrptKWZq8 Although I have never tried sealing a crack under pressure, if the crack is not that wide it may help. You could seal it and then put the flex/gorilla tape over it. Just a thought.
@colincarter52664 жыл бұрын
@@Jeffreviews4u I've seen it but hadn't thought to try it on this. I'm thinking the tape is going to do it - I had just ordered a replacement bottom for the filter (almost $300) but might cancel and see if the tape works for a bit. I went to a variable speed pump and dropped the RPM so the pressure isn't quite so high (can go to 30 lbs when the filter is dirty) so as long as I keep it clean, might just hold me for a bit.

Thank you for this demonstration Jeff. I definitely feel flex tape is worth trying on the slice I accidentally made in our plastic pond liner while trying to trim silicone away from a drain that was sealed to a hole made in the bottom of it. Do you think that this tape could be shaped around the drain, to ensure a smoother surface, for a flat rubber plug to rest upon? I used a lot of silicone to secure the drain. I also tried to repair the slice I made, with additional silicone. Would the set silicone applications need to be completely removed, before taping with the flex tape, for a proper adhesion? Or could I work the flex tape over the silicone as it is, and still achieve the seal that I am hoping for?
