Flexor Tenosynovitis Of The Hand Kanavel's Signs - Everything You Need To Know - Dr. Nabil Ebraheim

Dr. Ebraheim’s educational animated video describes the four cardinal signs of Flexor Tenosynovitis of the Hand.
Flexor tenosynovitis is infection of the synovial sheath around the tendons of the fingers and hand.
The affected finger is red,swollen, and painful due to infection occurring with deep puncture wounds such as a splinter. Pain is located in the finger at the flexor tendon sheath.
Flexor tenosynovitis (Kanavel’s sign)
Signs of infection of the tendon sheath are called Kanavels sign. There are four Kanavel’s signs to support the presence of flexor tenosynovitis.
1-Uniform swelling of entire finger.
2-The finger is flexed
3-Intense pain when attempting to straighten the finger. occurs early.
4-Tenderness along the tendon sheath is the most specific sign.
Treatment
•Antibiotics
•Surgery: incision and drainage of the infection.

Just got home at three AM from having very painful surgery for this. If you damage the flexor to your finger go to urgent care as soon as possible!

Very good video.. I was just hospitalized for this few weeks ago.. It's been 19 days for me and finger is still swollen.. Going for OT now and hope swelling is something that just takes time although i was told 2 weeks.. doesn't seem that way.

I have this right now in my pinky. Had tendon washed and now I can't bend my finger at all. Still swollen and painful. I doubt it will ever be right again.

@@jimshab1887 yes I had a bump and a mucoid cyst that burst and infection got inside. Pinky swelled up turned purple with tracks up my hand. One week in hospital had tendon washed and now the finger is useless 😑

@R V Antibiotics would if given very early. When pus is formed, surgery is necessary.

Sorry to hear that I have also gone through this stage if antibiotics are not working after Taking it for 2 months u should urgently go to a plastic surgeon near you I had done my surgery in COIMBATORE Tamil Nadu Ganga hospital under DR RAJA SABHAPATY best hand and plastic surgeon in ASIA had to stay there atleast 1 month better if 2 months

You have to work very hard after surgery have to invest alteast 3 hours daily doing physiotherapy scar massage and normal exercises

hey Haridyansh ! Thanks for ur reply, n I am happy to share with u that now the situations are better than earlier , The antibiotics worked , now there is no need to go for surgery but still I have to continue the medicine n I guess it will take 1-2 weeks to heal properly but I'm happy bcz the pain has reduced .
