thank you! I have wasted a lot of time trying to find "schedule 20", now I can search for schedule 100 or 200 instead. for a shopvac modification.

Actually you are looking for Class 63, 125, 100, 160, 200. In some areas of the country they call it SDR21 or SDR41 or even SDR32.5. You must be very careful. There are many standards out there and there is also SDR35 which is a complete different pipe. Not cross compatible with IPS Pipe sizes (Sch 40, 80, 120, Class 63, 125, 100, 160, 200, etc.) Almost all the pipe sizes and classes are listed on our pipe size and dimensions chart at flexpvc.com/Reference/FullPVCPipeChart.shtml

Your right. All I find is schedule 40 piping and fittings in my area and that’s too heavy and expensive. All I want to do is build a dust separator cart like on the “John builds it” video.but I guess I’ll have to build it out of wood.

I guess the thinwall pipe you mentioned might work for me.... I actually thought I wanted schedule 20 PVC, because I want to build a very light and long gutter vacuum system. Schedule 20 is about half the weight of schedule 40. Sad that schedule 20 has died out. But maybe the thinwall pipe is the secret?
@FlexPVC

Class 200 is a relatively common thinwall pipe. That's probably the best to get for the availability.

There IS a schedule 20 PVC pipe and it's used for central vac systems. Please correct that
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC 2 жыл бұрын
Nope. Sch 40 and Sch 80 and Sch 120 and all these pipe standards are IPS (Iron Pipe Standard). ALL 2" IPS pipe will always have an OD of 2.375" precisely. Vac tube is 2.0" OD exactly. It's not Sch 20. It's ignorant people calling it Sch 20 and Vac people trying to fool their customers.

I've been in this business since the 1960's. There has never been Sch 20 pvc pipe. What you are thinking of is Class 200. 99.99% of people make this same mistake. They see it fits sch 40/80 fittings, it's thinner than sch 40 so they make the assumption its Sch 20. But that does not make it so. There are Sch 20 and Sch 30 specs in the books, but I've never seen it made in PVC plastic. Also note: What others are claiming is "sch 20" pipe is not. And you can prove it to your self: They claim an OD of 2.00". Go lookup the specs for Sch 40, 80, 120 and yes 30, 20 .... They all have an OD of 2.375" So if it does not have an OD of 2.375" it's not schedule "anything" because that is not the spec.

@@FlexPVC I recently pulled my submersible well pump that was installed in at least 1981. The pipe was gray PVC made by "Marvel" and extremely thin-walled, about one half of sch. 40. Are you saying this is class 200 or 100 pipe?
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC 2 жыл бұрын
@@johntreehorn5416 Yes, if you can measure the wall thickness you can find it on our chart: flexpvc.com/Reference/FullPVCPipeChart.shtml and that will help you identify what pipe you have. Note: wall thickness is approx. But just find the one closest and that will be your pipe. :-)

So does this mean Sch40 can be used on central vacuum pipes?
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC 2 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. Physically they will work however you will need an adapter to go from the 2" OD Vac tube to the 2" (or 1.5") PVC Pipe. If you go with 1.5" class 200, that's a thinwall pipe and you won't loose too much vol and you will likely add vacuum. Measure the OD of your 2" vac tube. It'll be about 1.80" (give of take). Class 200 1.5" pipe is about 1.70". If you go that way you can use a standard fernco couple: flexpvc.com/cart/agora.cgi?p=Fernco-Rubber-Couples&p_id=1056-150&xm=on&ppinc=detail It will be tight but it will stretch to 2" OD. OR you can go with sch 40 20" pipe (2.375" OD, ID 2") so you will lose a little vacuum but may gain air flow. This item MAY work: flexpvc.com/cart/agora.cgi?p=Fernco-Rubber-Couples-Reducing&p_id=1059-150&xm=on&ppinc=detail Call or email us for more info if you need it. 😃

@@Dwb913 There is no sch 20 PVC Pipe. All the "schedule" pipes are IPS pipe size (Iron Pipe Size.) When the building and construction industry switched from iron pipe to PVC pipe, they maintained the same sizing for simplicity. 2" IPS pipe is 2.375" OD. What they sell on these "vacuum" sites is 2" OD. 2" OD does not equal 2.375" OD. What they did was out of ignorance (or malice) calling their vacuum pipe "Sch 20.") And that is what has caused this issue for about 30 years now.

My hardware store Mgr just recommended I buy some schedule 20 pipe.... He was guessing that the thinness eould make it more bdndable...NOT He was wrong I guess. It's not the schedule number that makes it heat bendable. The relevant variable is PVC or UPVC. The U stands for "unplasticized.") Tge new standard modern version of PVC is UPVC ( though that is not printed on my pipe.) The old PVC pipe had phthalates in it to plasticized it so you can do heat bends on it. The new UPVC ( U means unplasticized)is much harder, more rigid and cannot be bent the way the old conduit PVC pipe could be. So all those KZbin tutorials on bending PVC are now irrelevant because the new PVC has no phlalates in it. I wonder if anyone sells or makes the old bendy PVC pipe anymore?
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC 2 жыл бұрын
Lots of uninformed people working all over the place. :-) The only pvc pipe that has plastizers is flexible pvc pipe (comes in a roll, it's our primary product). Rigid pipe has not had plastizers for decades. There is no sch 20 or 30 and in fact the thinner the pipe the harder it is to bend (it kinks.) Electrical conduit may or may not have plastizers in it, we don't do anything with electrical conduit.) You can still bend rigid pvc pipe but you need to use heat to do it. There are a few products out there that allow you to bend pvc pipe w/o heat but they are limited in size (1/2", 3/4" and 1") and length of pipe you can bend. (the spring insert tools.) I have used them and they work, but they have a limited application. Using heat works all the time.

The general answer to your question is yes. All of these are IPS pipe. IPS is "Iron Pipe Size." See dims.flexpvc.com for all the details. Just be sure you understand what you are doing. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. If you are mixing fittings and pipe, the pressure rating for the whole system will be that of the lowest grade component. Also be aware of CTS. CTS is "Copper Tube Size." CTS and IPS are brothers, but not exchangeable. Then there is SDR35 the bastard child of the plumbing world.... It's a whole 'nother mess to deal with.

@@FlexPVC I think something got mixed up !!! All the information and questions I posted are concerning PVC Plastic tubing and fittings ,...Not anything to do with IPS, Iron, or Copper tubing. Or Am I just not getting it ???
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC 2 жыл бұрын
@@seventhson9441 LOL. We got thru this nearly everday. IPS and CTS are "standards." And technically they could be called "Roman Pipe Standards" because loosely it goes all the way back to the Roman Aquaducts. ;-) As technology changes the standards kind of have their own life. We want the new stuff to work with the old stuff. In computer terms 'backwards compatibility." So it has nothing to do with iron or copper but it's just what they are called IPS and CTS. It just means pipe that is the same size dims so they will work together. ie, you can go from cast iron to pvc pipe if you have the right adatper. Ditto for copper pipe.
