Flylight PeaBee conversion.
Join me on my Paramotor to Peabee Nanolight conversion. It might seem simple but flying a flexwing after having flown Stick and rudder aircraft for so long.
Please join me on my journey of learning to fly a flexwing and eventually my own Flylight PeaBee nanolight.

Sometimes learning something new can be life changing. The hardest part was getting used to the controls being reversed compared to all the aircraft I have flown before. Lets get going!!
@Chris-Fennimore
@Chris-Fennimore 4 жыл бұрын
You are looking good up there👍👍. Yes, the hardest part is the 'reversed' controls. While I was training in the late '70s, I had witnessed a long-time pilot nose down (pulling back) into a crash, when he meant to climb. But it was fairly easy to master, for those of us who had no Stick/Yoke experience.

Same here! My instructor was very nerwous with my "wrong" decisions. Some time i was flying ok then sudently it was wrong. I Fly so many hours in simulators and even a real plane that i has a bad habbits on a trike. When i realise that, all changed and all problems has gone. Lerning to fly a Trike was a one of best things i did i my life!

Hello from Canada ! just wanted to drop by and say that I've been through a lot of your videos now (mainly your flexwing microlight vlog videos) and they are truely amazing for someone like me that is getting interested into flexwing. Showing the challenges you encounter and the errors your made is really appreciated. Stay authentic, too many youtubers are only there to "show off". I learnt a lot simply by looking yours ! My goal is to get my permit for ultralight next spring and buy a microlight after. Got my first flight last week and I simply felt in love with the experience. Fly safe,

Great video and great flying Giles. I did 8 hours dual flexwing conversion before soloing in my PeaBee. Although the principles are the same, the PeaBee is so much lighter and more sensitive to control. I found myself falling foul of some roll oscillation in the first few hours of flying the PeaBee, continually over correcting my heading/roll. Once mastered though it is great fun to flick around and it takes off like a rocket! Enjoy the rest of your training it will certainly pay off.

Thanks for sharing. I found your video very well done! I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to more. One thing that made me feel uncomfortable was watching you start the Trike with the control bar still fastened to the front strut. I'm sure this is one of those points of contention and perhaps you can ask your instructor his views on it, but as for my experience, I was taught not to do that. The reason behind it being that if by chance the throttle gets stuck, or the rear passenger accidentally opens the throttle....you will have no control over the wing. I was told this scenario led to a students death here in the states. And I'm not sure if that's how the accident occurred, but un-fastening the wing made sense. Anyhow, just passing on what was passed on to me when I first got started. Loved your vid! Keep em coming! Subbed!

When I was doing my 1st solos , I did a lot of bunny hops , I would roll down the run way , push out the bar . lift off and fly down the runway a ways about 4 meters high and land , maybe i could get 2 of these before turning around and doing it again. What that did for me was 1 , how to take off, 2 , once airborne , to keep the trike over the runway and centered over the run way , 3 and how to land . After doing that for about 25 times , you will just lift off , give it full throttle and push the bar out a little and got for a short flight . But keep up speed , you dont want to dump the throttle on take off till you get some altitude . Air speed is your friend. Also having a mico light or smaller trike with a single surface wing helps too since those dont need a whole lot of speed. Duel surface wings are what a reflex paraglider is to a regular glider , thus duel surface is faster.

@@GolfFoxtrot22 From what I remember there was just a hand throttle low down beside the seat in a position you could reach from either seat. There were footpegs on the front wheel steering head for when you became a reliant robin at what felt like ludicrous speed, that was the most terrifying aspect the process. I never got as far as a solo flight but I found the trikes a lot more intuitive than 3 axis. I did have a couple of flights in a shadow but I didn't feel connected in the way I did in the trike, I think it comes from being a biker so weight shift just felt natural.

Gunter, I don't know. I still have to cover the stages of the syllabus. Equally, I don't want to rush it, but I'm sure my instructor will let me know. Its like an abridged course. My first solo will be on the PeaBee... SCARYYYY!!!!

I had one lesson and your throttle and pitch control were miles better than mine. I was yo-yoing up down and side to side, without the instructor I would defiantly have broken things. I'm hoping that the sub 70 is less of an issue due to less power?
@GolfFoxtrot22
@GolfFoxtrot22 2 жыл бұрын
They have less energy but you actually have to be a little smoother with them. Power to weight is still just as good so keep that in mind. I genuinely back off the power once I'm in a safe climb with a few hundred feet below me.

Looking to start lessons, really prefer flexwing over fixed wing but like you, I am terrified that if you have to react quickly then it doesn't come naturally as all controls reversed. Even when your instructor was saying turn right, I found having to think for a few seconds which way the bar would go and that cant be good in an emergency, or even landing with a cross wind. How are you adapting to the difference, does it come naturally after a while ?
@GolfFoxtrot22
@GolfFoxtrot22 3 жыл бұрын
It did take a couple of lessons, but I did also drive my car from the bottom of the steering wheel which also helped. It's really natural now and I don't even think which way to push the bar now.

Ahoy Giles, is the plane equipped with a reserve? Is that fog or pollution? Good show. Thank you
@GolfFoxtrot22
@GolfFoxtrot22 4 жыл бұрын
The aircraft I'm learning on does not have a reserve but my PeaBee does. The dirty layer is called a inversion, 2 different air layers that traps dust and rubbish. So yes it is pollution but it happens all the time in still high conditions. I hope that answers your questions.

Giles , looking at the way the plane flew, and I know what you fly at the moment and why, (i think ?), did it cross your mind that this is more a means of transport from A to B instead of the exciting flying around in the sky for no reason but to fly, like we do on ppg. . I like the idea of flying one of those but would it still be as much fun.what was your take on flying it
@GolfFoxtrot22
@GolfFoxtrot22 4 жыл бұрын
That's why I'm going to still paramotor. I completely agree. It is more of a means of A to B, I can go further, do more in a straight line. I want to go further but not have to worry about the run, nil wind days. Its also me completing my dream of owning an aeroplane. We all have dreams. It would be boring if we all had the same one.
