Wow putting Serpico in the bottom 10?!?!?! Yeah, it was one of the best early roles for Pacino PLUS being a true story of dirty cops and the guy that barely lived through getting them exposed. Thank You For Smoking is a super plus in my book. I listened to the book on tape when I was travelling a lot and laughed my butt off. And The Limey, excellent choice for the top pick, truly.

Gonna need a few drinks to get through Buried. I survived a month long coma where I could hear & feel everything happening to me. I had no way of communicating that I was aware of everything, so I was basically trapped inside my own paralyzed body. Due to my traumatic experience I have some pretty terrible PTSD, claustrophobia & other similar phobias, like being Buried alive. I use movies like buried, ones that trigger tf out of me, as a sort of therapy. It's a safe way to face my fears & feel I have some sense of control. That, & I have an extensive living will & incaseshit plan. But seriously, if you have a fear, phobia, PTSD, etc... I recommend talking to a therapist if possible first & foremost, but also mention the idea of using movies as a way to face your fears. While I am still affected by my traumatizing experiences, I've definitely seen a major improvement & can control my response when triggers happen. Wishing all the best. ❤

@courtneycallen3 жыл бұрын
Edit: I feel like a moron. I just saw there’s a pinned message from the creator that is a full list of the movies in this. Please excuse my stupidity. Nope! You’ve got company with me joining you! I got way too excited about Clifford being on the list! The only thing I wish these videos included was a list of all of them in the description; I try to jot down each pick as he goes along but I rarely succeed in making it happen because 1) I don’t think about grabbing something to write with or on until a movie I want to see is mentioned, and 2) I have 4 kids with 3 of them being extremely high maitenance who interfere with my entire existence. I have a severely developmentally disabled 18 year old son who is nonverbal and still in diapers, and 5 year old twin daughters who fight over EVERYTHING. Even when my oldest is pacified and busy playing with his iPad or toys and my twins are not arguing over which one of them is faster at putting socks on; one of them is guaranteed to need me for something and while performing said task for Twin A, Twin B will then have her own request and then something else will happen and I’ll have forgotten that I’m an actual person who wanted to watch a KZbin video of recommended movies and not just some sentient creature whose sole purpose is to cater to the needs of the 4 little parasites I purposely had. So basically, I’m hoping a list is one day included in all these videos and I wanted to inform you that you have a fellow comrade!

"Little Nemo:Adventures In Slumberland" is based on the early twentieth-century comic strip by Winsor McCay. What is noteworthy about McCay, aside from his being one of the best cartoonists who ever lived, is that he was one of the very first animators. He took his cartoon character Gertie The Dinosaur on the road as a vaudeville act in which McCay would seem to interact with Gertie.

What is the hate on Gibson? He spoke his mind a fact just like Brando said 30 years before. He is one of the best directors and actors of this generation without question
@courtneycallen3 жыл бұрын
I might be wrong but I believe there were leaked recordings of messages he left to his now ex-wife that were not only racist but threatening. Then I think he was pulled over for drunk driving and went on one of his anti-Semitic tirades. Hollywood has a lot of Jewish and gay people; it’s usually a bad idea to openly express disdain for any kind of minority that a certain field is saturated with. I believe Brando was more of a “I hate everyone” type which is more acceptable bc it’s not targeting individual groups that are frequently oppressed. But I could be wrong about all of this; I’m going off my memories instead of just googling.
@keansalzer83643 жыл бұрын
@@courtneycallen Your recall is excellent, but it lacks one perspective. Gibson, while clearly stuck in some lifelong ungodly behaviors, is a strong Christian. Hollywood hates believers who promote Jesus. He shot himself in his foot a couple of times - but he was a target the Immoral Mob went after.

Yep, we are old lol.Hidden gem? It's an essential watch. If you haven't seen Serpico, you are not really a film buff nor a Pacino fan.
@stanphillips72773 жыл бұрын
That was my first thought too. " I'll bet you've never heard of these" he says about Serpico?!! I'm 50 and I'm not sure it's our ages as much as a serious misunderstanding of just how famous Serpico is right? It's a classic Pacino film , in the same category as Dog Day Afternoon as far as early but classic movies!! Yeah, it's not you it's Darren. He seems to know alot at times, and other times like this...not really in touch with things. I subscribe to maybe 15 different guitar related channels but movie recommendations? Flick Connection is nearly the only game in town. It's peculiar but unless you want some kid to tell you their top 25 favorite movies there's nothing much going on. Darren has a monopoly on things it seems so I watch and he's useful once in a while. If only to remind you or tell you where to find things. Virtuousity isn't really that obscure either. He never seems to pick dramas like "Good Will Hunting" for example. Or Woody Allen movies. He's into action more than anything has been my observation. 🎬

It's a classic that I bet a lot of people my age (I'm solidly middle aged) and younger have not seen.

Maybe I'm getting old and losing my memory, but didn't "Serpico" win best picture or something? That's just a hidden gem to the younger folks I suppose. The flood of comic book movies obscures the older films a little too. Lots of fantastic older films are overlooked.

Clifford has been one of my favorite movies since it came out in 1994! The scene where the uncle asks Clifford if he can look like a normal human boy never fails to make me laugh in that deep way that sometimes makes your stomach hurt. I am thrilled to see it on this list because whenever I have mentioned it to others for really good movies, nobody has ever heard of it and they usually ask me if it’s about the big red dog. I’m glad to hear the actor, Charles Grodin, named bc I had been calling him “the dad from Beethoven” instead of by his name up until it was just mentioned. Don’t ask me why I didn’t Google his name before; I can’t even give an answer for that and I’m embarrassed I thought never occurred to me to do so. Great list! Anyone who reads this comment and hasn’t seen Clifford, it really is a good movie. Martin Short is a gift to the entertainment industry!

Once again, quite a few of your picks are already in my library! LOL.. You have EXCELLENT taste (as do I... 😄). I enjoy the way you review the films in your lists. You provide information that make it easy to decide of a particular movie is "for you". I've also thoroughly enjoyed the recommendations that I hadn't seen. Clifford is hilarious. Martin Short has a energy about him that I always enjoy in his movies. If Innerspace is streaming anywhere, you should give that one a plug. It's a great twist on the "buddy movie" genre. I caught Absentia a few years ago and thought it was a pretty decent horror film. I liked the fact that is wasn't a "gorefest' but more an "atmospheric" horror film. Somewhere in the 70's, the definition of "horror" went from "scary" to "gory". While I don't mind gory films, even enjoy them. I would much rather watch something that scares me because of the frightening atmosphere created by the film as opposed to being frightened by gory visuals (or jump scares for that matter). I agree with your comment about Knight and Day. I think it's really under appreciated. It has great action, some great dialog and is overall, it's hilarious. Guns Akimbo, is another great action/comedy. As is Get the Gringo. I really enjoyed all 3. As a former smoker, I have also give a thumbs up to Thank You for Smoking. That movie cracked me up.

Ok I already commented, but once he said no one really likes Mel Gibson like what, he literally is probably ine of the best actors and directors of all time. His acting is true to the eye in my opinion.

I have to agree. I know a lot of folks dislike him for some of the things he's said, but I'm sure there are many other entertainers/artists who share Gibson's views, but the public just isn't aware of it. I know some people who stopped going to a local bar/grille because of the owner announcing his political stance. I asked them "Where are you going now?" and they mentioned a new place they liked. Then I asked "Do you know the political stance of the owner of that new place?" ...... and all I got from them was a glazed look in their eyes and the sound of crickets. Pretty pathetic and pretty predictable.

@@marksavage1744 yea some people especially now can be real ignorant. I don’t get why someone political views has to make each other enemy’s. It’s absolutely foolish. As far as what Mel Gibson said I obviously saw something on it, he was drunk. Ok he messed up, and if he believes what he said well that’s on him. I don’t know him personally, I’m separating the personal stuff, he will have to answer for that or maybe he won’t. But speaking strictly about his work, it’s absolutely great

Great plug for The Limey. It's a must watch for cult film junkies as it stars Barry Newman (lead of Vanishing Point (1971)-big Tarantino fave and Bruce Springsteen's favorite movie) and Warhol Factory star Joe Dellasandro. The DVD commentary is stellar. Soderbergh licensed clips of Terence Stamp's 1967 film Poor Cow for the character's flashback sequences which I think was totally fucking brilliant.

I was moving years ago and crashed at a friend's place for a couple nights . He had tons of DVDs and VHS and we decided to watch a movie. I asked him what his favorite movie was and he said without hesitation "Vanishing Point". I said "Let's watch that" ...... and I was hooked!

Actually like Mel Gibson, even now, as an old guy, seems like he can do a lot of good stuff

Agree. He, like Kevin Costner, is really coming into his own with age.
