For those that don't know, APU = auxiliary power unit and it provides power to run the electrical systems of the aircraft, like A/C, lights etc whilst on the ground and the engines are off. I think at bigger airports they can sometimes plug the planes in to "shore" power and dont need to use the APU or Engines to run the electrical systems.

Even small airports have ground power units that plug in to power the a/c.

The APU also powers the turbines or fan blades of the engines to spool and start the engines on the ground, along with providing power and air to the cabin when the engines aren’t running and ground power is not connected.

When I was a child, I used to get Airplane sickness quite often. I eventually out grew it. Gotta tell ya, the flight attendants always made me feel not ashamed and would return to see if I was ok. Yall are the best.

So far, in the last 2 weeks, I've had 2 planes without APU, and we were in CLT both times.. one day was 95 out.. and then the other day, I was switching planes and the FA was like someone got sick and just walked off. The CA came out and was like yeah, someone definitely got sick. I was a medic in the army, and this is bad. Ok, no problem. They threw up.. in the aisle.. it was bad, but I got it cleaned up without the cleaners help.

I notice how much different traveling is now that I’m getting closer to fifty versus when I was a child, teenager and young woman. For instance, it gets harder to get over jet lag, I am willing to pay more for Business Class or First Class because of my back and knees and I get motion sick with turbulence.

@@KatNesbitt - Speaking of "fresh faces," I just returned from my grandson's HS graduation in FL. (TPA>DFW>GEG) On the first leg, I not only had one "fresh face," all FOUR of the FAs were on their 2nd flight after completing FA training!! LGA-based, they were doing an LGA>TPA>DFW>TPA>LGA assignment, with an overnight in TPA. Altho a little nervous, they actually did a good job, and I hung around the gate to complement them as they deplaned together (plus they each got a *bucks gift card as a bonus!) On the second leg (AA303 - why is it ALWAYS late??), one of the FAs actually not only knew you, she has worked with you, too! I'm sorry I didn't catch her name, but she's DFW-based, tall black lady, early 30's, with corn-row extensions down to her lower back (clipped up while doors were closed.) She paid you a really nice complement, saying that not only were you a joy to work with, but an absolute hoot, too, with a big grin on her face! I thought that was very sweet of her, as it really seemed quite genuine. Made for a pleasant deplaning at the end of my trip. As always, Cheers from GEG ❣❣

Wow Kat, what a great video! You definitely shed a new light on flight attendant work. I totally understand what you shared. I worked in the ER for 20+ years. I have seen and dealt with a lot. Your narration is awesome, and I agree, teamwork is everything when you have a stressful job. I have a question; what are these compliment cards (?) that you can write for a flight attendant? I've never heard of these, never seen them. There have been so many great flight attendants on our flights over the years. I would appreciate any information on that. You may like new hires but...we were on a United flight from Honolulu to SFO. Long story short, I got hit by a rough wave on Waikiki so had to be on crutches. When we asked the ticket person what to do with crutches he said FA will take care of it. Lucky us he was brand new. When we asked him where to put crutches....he said in the overhead bin. Of course, they didn't fit.🙄🙄 The he suggeated I take them to front of plane...but how do I get back to my seat w/o crutches. Basically, he was useless and thank god my another flight attendant got involved. Sorry to say that United must be scraping bottom of barrel when it comes to new recruits!

Kat, They have been flying the A321s more frequently on the DFW-PDX route. Your company needs to deploy more A321s on the DFW-BOS route since demand is very high.

Not at my airline because the lead position tends to be the most junior position on domestic flights, but some airlines have a rule that only flight attendants off probation can fly lead.
