I know this is an old video, but I just want you to know your videos are so relatable! I'm a flight attendant too and haven't been flying much all summer because of Covid19. I really miss it...then, I'm reminded how hard it is at times, especially being on reserve!! (I still really miss it though!)

WOW the glitz and glamour of a Flight Attendant.
@SchibbiSchibbi8 жыл бұрын
Hi Stella, thanks for your video, I appreciate you filming your daily life as a flight attendant, it gives a great insight in this job and I must say that everyone considering being a flight attendant should watch your video, because I believe that most naiv people believe that being a flight attendant is just "flying" and "travelling" for free. I'm not a flight attendant, I couldn't stand the pressure, not only of getting up at 3 am, rushing to the airport and then waiting if it's delayed, without doing anything. Watching your videos I noticed that even when you relax at the hotel and getting hungry you have to go down to the hotel restaurant or bar and sit there alone eating expensive hotel food (even if you get a discount it's way too expensive) surrounded by strangers or stupid business men you really don't want to talk to or even sitting next to them. I feels like being lonely all the time. Then I saw you eating food, always on the go, in a hurry, getting into a taxi, etc... I wonder if you are truly happy. I love your laughs, but I feel like you are covering something up. Being a flight attendant looks like adapting a whole new life style, maybe I'm just shocked watching that people would prefer such a life style instead of a stable working schedule, preparing healthy food at home, surrounded by friends and family, maybe having a pet... going to gym, riding a bike, those are things you completely give up as a flight attendant. The messy working schedule, won't let you be active during the day, you get to the hotel (always far away from downtown), so mostly you're tired and just fall asleep, which is logical because your body requires it. So the dream of being a flight attendant and travelling around the world... I think it's a misconception. Wherever you arrive, you're jetlaged. tired, lonely, ... not to mention dealing with rude passengers during your service. Honestly I really hope that you chose being a flight attendant in order to be happy, you deserve it, because you transmit a nice positive energy in your videos. I hope I didn't offend you. That video was eye opening for me just telling me that I would never be a suitable person to stand the pressure and downsides of that job. Keep the videos coming. xoxo

Thank you Mitchel for your thoughtful comment! Yes being a Flight Attendant isn't always super glamours like they make it out on TV and movies. But I can honestly say I personally love it. Its super unconventional, sometime I'm tired or jet lagged and sometimes I'm alone on layovers because I don't have a crew who wants to hangout. BUT then sometimes its amazing and I get a an awesome crew, I meet amazing passengers, I get to explore new places, eat new food and I get a quiet clean hotel room away from my home. For me the good out weights the bad but, for other people this might not be the case. Either way I really appreciate you taking the time to watch my video and put thought into a great comment!!

How often do you get to be home on reserve? Will I have time do college courses, also Do the airlines pay for your room stay? I understand you work 3-4 days a week and have the rest off. But it’s not fun if those days aren’t being home.

Stella, why aren't Admiral Clubs not available to flight crews? It just seems like the obvious choice to feed and hydrate crews.
@MrFlyboy13135 жыл бұрын
Admirals clubs, like all airline clubs, are meant to entertain high fare frequent flying passengers and they can get quite busy during certain times of the day. There wouldn’t be enough seats if the crews were in there at the same time. Also,crews don’t normally want to mix with passengers when they are trying to eat and relax.

@TheVoguevintage7 жыл бұрын
I think the more experience you get, the more control you have over your schedule. So after a few years you're not on stand by like this. I know someone who did it for 30 years, for certain people it's a calling/passion... but it's true that most people don't stay long, i guess if you want a family life,... you would change for a "desk" job (still in the aviation world if you like it) after a couple of years.

I heard that you only get paid for the time the plane is in the air, meaning that all the time you spend getting to and going thru the airport and all the time helping the guests get settled into the plane, your not technically on the clock(getting paid) until the plane is actually in the air! Is that true??
@nolagirl70828 жыл бұрын
BigD Travels what??
@nolagirl70827 жыл бұрын
Scarlett Whisperer ASMR Um no, it's actually not the same. When I walk into my job everyday, the first thing I do is clock in. I'm getting paid as soon as I get there and it should be the same for flight attendants. They should be getting paid the second they step foot into that airport! All of the welcoming guests into the plane, getting them seated, and caring for all of they're needs prior to takeoff is work, they are working, and absolutely not getting paid for it! So no, I don't think that it's comparable to "driving to work"
@crystelharrison79137 жыл бұрын
I am a flight attendant and yes this is true. We don't start getting paid until the plane pushes back from the gate and we stop getting paid once the boarding door opens at the arrival gate.
@marissabarbie57426 жыл бұрын
Only when the doors close and then 15 minutes after while people are getting off the plane. You do not get paid just because you’re at the airport

Courtney's Cockpit I work for another airline as a gate agent. Free travel is one of the perks of the job. I fly free "standby" domestic and only have to pay exit taxes for international. (Taxes range from $25-$175 depending on the country). I am one that works for the travel perks, not necessarily the money. Crew never pays to commute.

It's so funny listening to you complain about how long NY to LA is. Try working a 16 hour flight from Dubai to LA. As Emirates crew this is something I did all the time. the longest I was awake for work was 33 hours straight. I wish I did easy 5 hour flights. I think the shortest flight time I ever worked with a layover was 7 hours.
