A detailed walkthrough of my everyday carry (EDC) that I use as a flight paramedic operating on an A-Star helicopter (H125). This video covers everything from my helicopter helmet, flight suit and boots, to the specific medical equipment and gear that I keep on me while working in the Helicopter EMS (HEMS) environment.
*The views expressed in this video are my own and do not necessarily reflect those of my employer or partner agencies. My employer does not endorse any specific medical equipment or supplies*

Try to talk with a military flight paramedic and make a video about the differences and similarities. That would be interesting to see.

Some that stood out to me is that in the military we call high-vis material, a "signal panel" or "signal device." We would use "flagging" for when someone sweeps their weapon across you, putting you in the line of fire if they have a negligent discharge. Good info as always though, as well as presented in an efficient and interesting way.

20 yr Flight Paramedic here. Some good info and insight. I don't agree with everything, but I'm also not in an A-Star. With your locale and terrain, I suggest a signal mirror and a whistle for your PSK. Small and unobtrusive, but potentially lifesaving. Fly safe.

Sam, I'd recommend that if possible you consider getting your RN. I was a flight paramedic for 14 years, then the hospital I worked for closed the program. I went to nursing school, got the BSN, and when I retired I was making two times my paramedic income. With your knowledge and background nursing school will be a cake-walk. It was for me.

Quick handy tip. Take the cap off your saline flush, drill a small hole through the non-threaded part and put a key ring through it. You can make 2 or 3 and out them on a key ring. You keep the threads clean with the little alcohol caps and they are perfect for hanging onto meds if you didn’t give the full dosage.

Gloves and surgical mask for every patient (each patient gets a mask as well). For covid patients we do gloves, N95, eye pro. Can’t do gowns because they are not safe for flight.

I work, fly and train agency pilots in ASTARS daily for a living and for a government agency. Your boots will melt to your skin in a fire. Wear all leather boots no matter how uncomfortable it may seem. For much better hearing protection, get CEP’s installed in your helmet. They provide superior ear protection and better hearing with your ICS comms.
