Thanks for sharing man! And that tourniquet sheath was meant for the CAT to protect your pant leg from the Velcro. But it’s removable, just attached at the bottom with Velcro. So for your setup you should definitely take it out. Stay safe man!

@@PrepMedic Thanks for this video, I'm an unrepentant gearhead, too. On the subject of 'need', my mindset is "I'm never in danger, I AM the danger"! I have several bags. EDC, Get-home, Bugout, INCH. 4 may seem excessive, but I believe in the maxim "2 is 1, and 1 is none".

@@PrepMedic great video. Btw the Glock 19 uses 15 round mags and the +1 is in the chamber if you preload it and insert a full mag. I really appreciate the video because I kind of have a similar every day carry except I use a Glock 43X MOS. I just find the thinner gun easier to conceal. I’m glad to see there is somebody else out there that understands how important being prepared is. You have to have medical supplies if you carry a firearm in my opinion. Carrying a gun is only half of the equation.

For anyone new to concealed carrying or getting into it, no one will notice you’re carrying unless they also concealed carry. Also, don’t cheap out on your ammo, gun, attachments, holster and make sure you train. Buy what you are comfortable with. Most important things to get first is the gun and quality ammo. Holster can be changed later red dot can always be added as can the light but if youre uncomfortable with the gun you’ve wasted money and will be crying for a 2nd time. Buy once cry once. Your expensive gun won’t save you if you can’t shoot well. If you have to decide between quality ammo or lets say a red dot get quality ammo. You should still know how to aim with iron sights in case your red dot takes a shit so red dot it not needed but is nice to have. Get used to the basics before trying to become faster with lets say a shot timer. Speed is dangerous if you don’t know the basics.

@@GabrielGarcia-ul9mg i carry a Smith and Wesson M&P9 Compact, but really any compact 9mm from a trustworthy brand (Smith, Glock, Ruger, Steyer, Berreta, probably some others that i can't think of) is gonna be my recommendation. I can't make a specific recc without knowing your control level, hand size, experience etc, but M&P and Glock are a good place to start. Almost any gun shop will allow you to handle handguns on display, just go check out what feels right in your hand and try to visualize or think about your needs on the daily basis. like Prep said, if something is inconvenient you will not carry it.
@firstpersonducky9333

@@GabrielGarcia-ul9mg also as a new gun owner, try to stay away from the cheap subcompacts. Stuff like SCCY CPX-1, Kel-tec PF9 etc. While SCCY makes an excellent handgun (for the value), small guns like them can have significant recoil and even be painful to someone not accustomed to shooting.
@jedijudoka
@jedijudoka 2 жыл бұрын
@@GabrielGarcia-ul9mg I recommend Sig P365 as #1 choice. It’s a micro compact 9mm with full size capacity. So easy to conceal and shoots like a bigger gun. I opted for the 365x, which has a slightly longer grip and some other minor differences.
@GulfCoastGrit
@GulfCoastGrit 2 жыл бұрын
@@GabrielGarcia-ul9mg Don't know if you've already made your purchase but try this; ask if they can take out as many different pistols as possible and lay them on the counter. Go to each one without really looking at them and pick one up at a time. Best practice is to close your eyes while doing it. When you pick it up, ask yourself "does this feel like I'm holding a gun?" I know that sound silly, but focus on it. Pick two or three pistols that feel the most like you are holding a weapon and not a hunk of metal/plastic. Then, take the winners from that experiment. Get a good grip and drive the gun out in front of you like you've drawn it. Ideally, one of those guns will naturally come up with sights aligned and the gun on target where you are looking. If it feels right in the hand and points naturally when you present it, then you have found the right one. NOTE: It does not have to be a small gun. If the right one ends up being larger than what you expected then that's just what it is. Keep an open mind. The right tool for you is the one that you will use and train with and is comfortable. Last point I'll make is this; Even the Gucciest of Glocks and the Sexiest of Sigs fall short to the real hotness: training. A Hi-Point in skilled hands is 1000% better than Kimber Custom in novice hands. Get good training. Practice the basics like Allen said (deliberate practice at the slowest speed you can muster. Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast). Hope that helps and good luck Gabriel.

Pretty good EDC, especially the med kits/eq. As a former USAF Paramedic/Firefighter, I can attest to really needing the Quick Clot whether in a bandage or other form. The Boo boo kit also is very handy. The worst situations I've faced are when I've NOT been carrying my kit or just minimal and the Quick clot or some kind of esophageal airway could have really helped. Thanks for your time. Oh, I also conceal carry. Don't ever wanna hurt anyone but it did save my life once with a really bad dog situation.

I actually have been carrying the LTC pocket kit since your last video and eventually took out the swat-t and added a NAR compressed gauze behind the gloves. Way slimmer and easier to fit in even a front pocket, and I sometimes use it next to an extra mag to keep it upright in my pocket. Anything extra, like that swat-t, I'll keep in my ready pack that I always have in the truck right next to a cat tourniquet and bigger bandages. Thanks for all the information and everything you do, I've learned a lot from you over the years. God bless you Sam

Good overview, only thing is the PocketIfak from LTC. I own one, bought in part because of previous videos of yours, realized really quickly that its a glorified set of rubber bands. Im a student and so I wear a lot of athletic clothes that make carrying stuff really annoying, I find the LTC kit takes more room than needed, instead I would highly suggest rubber banding some nitrile gloves to some packing gauze and a swat T or to a ETD dressing. A rubber band setup like this fits in any regular pocket much better than the LTC kit

I knew you'd ultimately join the Garmin team! Since your job requires flight, my recommendation is that you should really get familiar with all the flight tracking features. There had been many cases when Garmin's watches saved pilots lives as the aircraft's electronics malfunctions. And Garmin's battery life, considering the features they provide, there's just no comparison.

Unfortunately I don't carry much if not any medical gear for my EDC. I was a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy, but literally all of my skills mean nothing in the civilian world. I only recently started carrying a firearm, and that's because more and more situations have happened where I would have preferred to have them. It sucks knowing I have the skill set to use things like a decomp needle, but liability is such a huge risk. Unless it's a family member, I wouldn't use most of my skills. For that reason alone I stopped carrying anything medical except in my car and on hikes. But the turnaround is that knowing when to act and having that ability is almost more important than actually carrying things. I saw a car accident where someone had this really nice kit in their truck, but the guy was so shaken up. No concussion, no serious damage to his vehicle, and he was still a deer in the headlights. I assessed both parties but it was the one time EMS got there in a timely manner, and I just walked away. So, it's not really by choice, but I take the risk of not carrying medical EDC. But I trust my ability to act, and like you said, a shirt can solve a lot of bleeding problems worse case.

@@PrepMedic True. Short of a tourniquet, all of that can be done with outside items, with knowledge and skills. Unfortunately makeshift TQ's are not effective, which is why I can see a use for people to carry one. My EDC is extremely minimalist, so if I ever carry a backpack or briefcase, I do throw a CAT in there.

I think pepper spray is a good option for men and women bc if somebody is coming at you and you are being backed into a wall and a corner pulling a gun or a knife is a little over the top obviously if it's really bad pull your gun and show it but usually pepper spray is a good nonlethal option, bc when you are by yourself the best thing to do is get away from danger and don't be in those scenarios.
@PrepMedic
@PrepMedic Жыл бұрын
Shooting someone who is backing you into a corner is in no way over the top. One of our evolutions in police academy was being sprayed with pepper spray and needing to fight through it to wrestle an instructor, cuff them, radio for help and fire several rounds down range. It might be enough to stop some people but many can fight through it without much difficulty

7:58 Friendly advice: 1. When racking the slide to chamber a round, pull back and then let go. Do not assist/push/hang on to the slide when going forward into battery. 2. I'd recommend loading a +1 if you dont already. Full mag +1 manually loaded. 3. I'd also recommend loading your pistol into the holster first, and then put the holstered weapon on your belt. Less chance of blowing your junk off if the trigger catches. 4. Please upgrade your trigger. 5. Nice setup. If you have any issues with slippery grip, try Talon Grips. I put the sandpaper version on all my firearms. Solid grip even if your hands are wet with blood or water.

So yeah if you had to do something to upregade your edc, in my point of view it’s the first thing to consider(sorry for my english if I made errors, I’m french)But really good video.

I have to admit, I’m very surprised that you carry all of those more obscure items in your ankle kit (needle, airway), but not a chest seal. Am I missing something? I’m building out an EDC ankle kit currently and I was planning on stocking it with a SOF-T, quick clot gauze, and a compact vented chest seal (twin pack), and possibly a compression bandage and/or shears if I felt I had the extra room. Do you recommend against carrying a chest seal now? Seems likely that someone could be shot in the chest/lung in a civilian context. Thanks!

unless you are a place where it takes paramedics longer than 1h to reach then a chestseal or decomp needle really isnt necessary

I still think you should carry a separate light. If your using your watch for medical timing your light is going to get in the way with the watch. Check out the olight i3t black from olight for a super small edc 2 mode aaa flashlight
@PrepMedic

Eh, I have carried flashlights before and they end up being more trouble then they are worth. I don’t usually do manual medical timing. Is pulse really slow, slow, normal, fast, really fast etc.

Olights might look like a good option because of the price, but lately I've seen a bunch of issues with overheating, and you don't wanna get burned lol. Like the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. I'd personally use Streamlight for a budget EDC light.

@@subaruforester5062 What lockout mode? I didn't know that was a thing. Is it like a combo of button presses? Because there's no physical lockout switch or anything. People most likely don't use that because most of the time when you need to use a flashlight you either don't want to go through the hassle of "unlocking" it, or need the light ASAP (like in a gunfight/self defense situation).

I have a Garmin Tactix 7 Applied Ballistics edition and the support is great. Two recommendations: - swap your plastic clip on your holster to discreet carry clips. They work much better and they are less likely to break in force on force. - swat-t would be better replaced by an RMT. RMTs are approved and don't break like CATs. You are far more experienced so would love to hear your thoughts.
@bravowhiskey4684
@bravowhiskey4684 2 жыл бұрын
CAT gen 7 won’t break unless you leave it in the sun to prematurely degrade. If you’re breaking CATs, your TQs are counterfeits. Only buy from NAR authorized vendors. He carries an SOFTT, it has an aluminum windlass, so it’s a non-issue. The CAT is easier to one-hand apply to yourself, but this is still a good TQ. The RMT, and other mechanical TQ like the SAM XT, have moving parts that can be fouled by sand, debris, etc. Also, none of these are easy to self-apply, especially one handed. These also don’t meet the TCCC specifications nor the new OSHA specs for workplace trauma kits. A windlass is required to meet these specifications. SWAT-T is the best for pediatric, geriatric, and k9 applications. It’s also a great pressure dressing. It’s not suitable for self-application, realistically. Carrying one windlass TQ and one SWAT-T is the best plan, period.
@zfjames
@zfjames 2 жыл бұрын
@@bravowhiskey4684 The TX2 and TX3 are approved by TCCC as of 2019. Your statement about one-handed application tells me you have never tried it, which is understandable if you only use CAT. I have yet to see a single example of fouling in the racheting mechanism and, looking at one, I don't see a point where that would be a problem. Will test. Any tourniquet that doesn't let you practice with it (CAT-7 requires you to use a "training-only" tourniquet that you can't use in the field) or expose it to normal elements (i.e. the sun) is useless for everything I do. This doesn't even get into the mechanical simplicity of the RMT compared to the CAT.
@bravowhiskey4684
@bravowhiskey4684 2 жыл бұрын
@@zfjames interesting that those were accepted, I was not aware. As for the training TQ, that’s not accurate; Refuge Medical has several confirmed saves by customers with their instructor/class kits, including the blue CAT trainer.
@zfjames
@zfjames 2 жыл бұрын
@@bravowhiskey4684 Oh for sure, they do technically work to save lives. My point is that the "official recommendation" heavily favours the RMT because you can train with an RMT and you're not supposed to train with your carry CAT. Either way I think both are technically valid, but I use the RMT because it is mechanically simpler to me, a simple man

Just read a comment from another video which the commentor said his EDC included carrying a MP5K in his backpack... I told him it was stupid for him to carry such a gun in his backpack because if someone attacked him he be beaten or killed before he could grab his MP5K out of his backpack. Also I explained to him the primary reason why most people's EDC involve a handgun is because such a gun is easily stored on your body, can be concealed at easy to reach locations on your body, and can be quickly used against attacker(s). I'm not a guy who carries a gun for EDC at the moment, yet I'm rational enough to understand why carrying a MP5K in your backpack is dumb!

Very interesting. However I'd suggest you to change the way you charge your gun : let the slide go forward by itself and always check if the round is chambered. If you need to present your gun, you want to know for sure that a round is ready to go. 👍 And a question : why no gloves?
@kasper_429
@kasper_429 2 жыл бұрын
Gloves are good to have in an ideal situation, but at the end of the day if you actually have to treat someone or yourself, you don't technically need gloves unless you have an open wound on your hand(s) or forearm(s). I think Sam has mentioned that in a video before.

I feel like if your carrying an NCD, it would make a lot of sense if you were to carry a chest seal.
