This is truly exceptional playing. Makes it look, and sound easy. I have played it myself, and my bees are definitely more angry than Paul's, but that's just a personal preference. One thing this lesson doesn't cover is the reaction of the teacher to the student who is very diligent, and does exactly what this video suggests, yet doesn't achieve the same result. It's a bit like watching Rachmaninoff himself play, but without seeing exactly how he practised, and, more importantly, knowing what he was hearing and experiencing while he practised. Paul's playing is out of this world. Fluent, clear and colourful.

I struggle most with matching left hand and right hand at exact same speed, so the hardest part for me is the part where the left hand trills between E and F whilst the right hand is descending from D in semi tones... The problem comes if you don't exactly match them up as the left hand has to end on the F to successfully trigger the next part, at high speeds this is very tricky to get right and can ruin the whole performance if you land on the wrong final note in that section.

I think Mr. Barton adds notes in two spots. In both the 11th and 13th measures of the last page, in the left hand, Paul begins that minor 2nd-alternating-16th note figure on the 'and' of beat 1 instead of directly on beat 2. This is not a criticism. I prefer it, and I would bet that this modification has to be an intentional, artistic one coming from such a brilliant pianist. Mr. Barton, if you ever read this, can you confirm? Thank you for this, and all of your excellent tutorials!

Great tutorial, but... "fingering is intuitive".. I'm not so sure. Many pianists use different fingering for this piece; some start with 5 and others start with 4 and rarely use the fifth finger (Right Hand)

@mortenrobinson5421 Жыл бұрын
@@simonepozzari6967 it can definitely work, but I think that it's a bad choice in case of the bumblebee because of the speed. Using all five fingers is an advantage when developing speed and precision. When you only use three fingers, then each of those fingers will have to move a lot faster and do a lot more work, while your 4th and 5th do nothing. To me at least, I find it easier to develop the speed and precision required for this composition, when taking advantage of the fact that i have 5 fingers on each hand 🖐

Hi Paul, first off, thanks for the tutorial as it wa very useful. Also for the link to the score which is the one I used. However I noticed a difference in what you play and the score I downloaded from the link you provided. It is very small but at the last few lines, when the left hand does two trilles before the final ascending chromatic scales, you start the trilles one quaver earlier than on the score I found on the website. typically starting the trilles on the 2nd beat, rather than the third (supposing we assume 4 beats per bar). It is very charming the way you do it, but I wondered if it is a deliberate choice or just another version, or possibly an error in the website scores. Thanks!
