So I got this request from Nikolai Morales, a 12-year old who watches the channel. I oblige because he asked nicely, and because this piece actually provides a good topic: ALTERNATE FINGERINGS!

I wish that the music teachers I'd met along the way were more like you are. So many teachers either didn't have the mastery of the instrument that they touted having, or felt the need to restrict lessons to such oversmplification to the exclusion of all else as to turn learning an instrument into a bore and a chore. In particular I remember one drum set instructor that was all about the rudiments. I'd been playing for a few years and I was aware of the rudiments and could play them when called upon but he kept insisting on rudiments, without actually bothering to explain how those rudiments in-general and the paradiddle variations in-particular would help the player move around the kit seamlessly. It was only later that I figured this out on my own, but a quick discussion and demonstration would have done wonders for actually justifying _why_ he was all about the rudiments.

A quick lesson and an impressive performance..? Nice. (Ps: Really appreciated that quick lesson, don't get me wrong. I play clarinet and still need to be reminded about alternate keys from time to time. I still remember starting on the clarinet during my freshman year, struggling to keep up with the more experienced players because I only knew one way to play certain notes since I didn't want to bother learning about any other way to play them, like the C and B alternates. I would soon understand why they exist when my band had to play faster and more difficult pieces.)

Man, I miss bass clarinet. I played clarinet back in fifth grade, but switched to bass clarinet for middle school. Played it three years, with only two others in our band (so we'd bow out and let the others have a turn as first chair every now and then) but couldn't stick with band in high school. I couldn't afford to get one of my own, and have been pining for one since. I still have the Bb clarinet I used to play, but it's just not the same to me.
