Flight of the Intruder (1991) - Best Scene - This is the top Vietnam War movie. The U.S. military was bombarded by fierce anti-aircraft firepower, and the whole process was full of enthusiasm.

The A6 and A7 were bombers that surpassed any and all expatiations. I'm a former Kittyhawk Engineman, A-Gang and watched those two warbirds returned with many holes in them. This Movie I watched it when it first premiered and I was returned to those days on that Flat Top (1971-1973).

The movie is from Stephen Koontz book “flight of the intruder“. That book and the books that followed it up by Koontz are all fantastic books and are extremely realistic. My old law partner was a Navy carrier pilot who flew attack bombers (maybe the Intruder) and he recommended the book to me years ago. He said that reading the book it was so realistic that he started waking up in a cold sweat. Koontz is a great writer. The movie is a tad melodramatic at times but it is the great movie that it is in my opinion due to the acting of Willem Dafoe.

The A-6 was a great airframe, time just caught up to them. Was an A-6 B/N, and the aircraft was great, but was showing its age in the 1980’s. Still, nothing has yet to show the capability of day/night all-weather bombing, especially from a carrier deck.

I was an A-6 pilot from 1984 until 1992 and to be honest I found this movie embarrassing. I was so hoping for a movie that showed what an incredible aircraft it was. The best Vietnam movie IMHO, was "We Were Soldiers Once, And Young"

The Intruder was a revolutionary airframe. Nothing ever matched the versatility of it to this day! Thank you for keeping the commies at bay. I fk'ing hate fish eggs.

I live in Washington State. Grumman A-6 Intruders were stationed at Naval Station Widbey Island. They flew lots of training missions in area. They had a distinct loud jet exhaust, when they went full throttle, they were quite loud. Hard to sneak up when you can hear them miles away.
