Flight of the Intruder (1991) - Best Scene - This is the top Vietnam War movie. The U.S. military was bombarded by fierce anti-aircraft firepower, and the whole process was full of enthusiasm.

The movie is from Stephen Koontz book “flight of the intruder“. That book and the books that followed it up by Koontz are all fantastic books and are extremely realistic. My old law partner was a Navy carrier pilot who flew attack bombers (maybe the Intruder) and he recommended the book to me years ago. He said that reading the book it was so realistic that he started waking up in a cold sweat. Koontz is a great writer. The movie is a tad melodramatic at times but it is the great movie that it is in my opinion due to the acting of Willem Dafoe.

Some director license film in the second ejection procedure, the parachute is not on the crew member's back but is located on the seat itself in the upper bucket where the head rests, it is clearly seen when opening in the video that it is a manual skydiver dressed as a pilot to film the scene as he cannot do it with a real ejection seat.

I always thought it was weird how the first half of the movie was about Jake coping with the loss of Morg and then later Boxman. Then towards the end of the movie like at 0:20 we are all "My B/N who was played by some extra who's name we dont even know is dead" and Cole is dead but then a minute later they're cracking jokes on the ship about Camparelli getting his own ship because lolz "13th century Irish mafia sir" lolz.

The movie is great but somehow the last act seems weird and rushed and borderly nonsense.. they lose 3 planes to a ZSU , Grafton and Cole launching on their own from the carrier being out of flight status? Its based on a part of the book where Grafton and Cole get shot down but then it is one of the Sandys that get to help them who gets shot down and ask for the others to drop bombs on him as the soldiers are using him as bait.. not the book finale and certainly not as messy

I loved this movie and I’ve seen it 20 times. As far as Vietnam movies go, though..BAT21 gets my # 1 vote. It was not only riveting, but it actually happened.
