[FLIGHT TAKEOFF] Delta A321 - Thundestorms in Atlanta Takeoff

ATL SLC: What started out as a sunny arrival on my Delta flight from Zurich ended with a thunderstorm takeoff delay. Made for an eventful flight but also a one hour delay. As we were taxiing parallel to the runway, we could hear takeoffs. However, as we got on the runway, we kept taxiing instead of spooling up. So we had to circle back to to the runway and wait until they opened up the takeoff lane again.
I was able to get a good view of the Delta hangars with an MD-88, Boeing 717 and 777. Lots of other traffic around as we circled the runway for some time, made for some great plane spotting. Upon takeoff, I was able to get a few lightning shots.
The Delta A321s are a solid product. I'm more of a Boeing guy but I was pleased. Even being in the back, legroom was good and the noise level was also lower than I had imagined. Good service as well on this flight but also bumpy the whole way through.

A great takeoff video! Well, that's Atlanta for you during the summer months! Thunderstorms! Believe it or not, I love travelling in the summertime and, if I can, I will always choose ATL as my connecting point to my final destination! Love that airport! Delta airlines rule!

Thank-you again for sharing a great video with us. I forgot to mention in my comment for your Zurich-Atlanta landing, especially in the summer months in the US southeast, all the heat and humidity often enough result in isolated thunderstorms. At times, they are lengthy. Even where I live further north from Atlanta, the chance of rain predictions are liable to change inside of an hour, and on weather radar images, I have seen thunderstorms literally form from nothing around my city. During your extended driving tour of Atlanta's north taxiways and runways (LOL!), you cannot help but notice the "Fly Delta Jets" sign, which has been there since the mid 1960's. It was put there at the time when airlines were transitioning from propeller driven aircraft to all jet fleets, and that sign was Delta's advertisement to the world. One other thing I noticed during your ground loops was that the pilot did shut down one engine. On the Airbus 319, 320, and 321 aircraft, especially when the pilot spools up or shuts down the engines at the terminal, there is a annoying buzz saw type sound. This is the hydraulic pumps attempting to equalize the pressure between the two engine driven (redundancy) systems. In a way, this is a good thing. But on the other hand, it really is annoying to me. Finally, when you did take off and climbed above the storms, the view of the clouds was absolutely breathtaking to me. Although I did not see any in your video, I fully enjoy looking at the tops of thunderhead clouds, even though they are producing a lot of rain and lightning below. Finally, what would be a flight without also having a crying child on board? I am beginning to think that airlines now hand out angry babies to certain people before they board. Fun video to watch! The storms and lightning looked cool, and flying through the storm and seeing the storms from above was awesome! I really enjoyed the stereo recording as well, so the whole experience is better, and of course sounds just like a typical Sunday at church with screaming kids as well. Hope your flight to SLC was enjoyable!
