Next week we look at my first solo flight, from when I was 16 years old back in 2013! Be sure to get your questions or stories of first solo flights in the comments below and they'll be in the video.

Memories. I spent my last 2 years service in the RAF at Machrihanish. We had at some point in it's history, US Navy, US Marines, US Seal Team, RAF and other odd bits. Enjoyed the video, keep posting. Many thanks, H.

Love to see another visit there, I was based there twice in the early eighties. My first solo was at 16 in a falke motor glider at RAF Syerston. After around 6hrs training and one other instructor checking me out (Those were the days no H&S) after one landing my instructor told me to stop and got out engine still running, he said "Pick me up when you land". That was an experiance difficult to explain. Only 2 cadets out of eight got solo that week.

Yeah I hope to visit again this year, interesting place. First solos are such an odd experience, being let loose with a flying machine. Definitely stay with you!

I hear this place was like the UKs Area 51 during the 90s.. Great video

Nice long runway away from big population centres. Definitely a strategic asset during the cold war. :)
