If you're flying into Oshkosh this year for EAA AirVenture, make sure you read the full notice on arrival and departure procedures. Here are some highlights, on an example fly in.

I flew in and out 5 times in X-Plane/PilotEdge, it was a really cool experience! The SimVenture notice is very similar. The faster aircraft at 135 kts fly at 2300 MSL. When you download the custom scenery, it has all the colored dots, as well as lots of other helpful visual items along the approach from Endeavour through Fisk.

I fly in on southwest every year. Relieved a little bit of the nerves, flew into Snf this year for the first time and that was a little sporty

I just drive each year (I’ll fly in some day) but I always read the notice anyway. Maybe I’m just a nerd but I enjoy it

Just looked at an ADS-B tracker site, and an ag pilot was spraying fields directly under the conga line to the south-east of Green Lake. That must have been interesting for everyone involved.

And add the dots, regardless. Shocking oversight! 😀

I would like to see a video showing the land marks especially from Ripon to Fisk, This could be done with a camera mounted on the bottom of the airplane. This might show when you are 1/2 mile from Fisk so you can do your wing rock.

Two questions: What methods are used to determine whether you are a mile or half mile behind the aircraft you are following? And second, what if you are flying an aircraft like a J3 cub that couldn't do 90 knots if it tried? I fly a light sport super cub, and it "can" do 90 kts, but in order to do it I have to be trimmed really far forward and at like 90% throttle. It also is above my VA, so if there's turbulence... are there any non-ultralight arrivals for aircraft that fly a lot slower? I guess that's really three questions...

If you do not have adsb in and a display that shows traffic you have to use the mark one eyeball. Practice before you come to Oshkosh with someone in front of you that has adsb and can tell you when you are a mile behind him. As far as the 90 knots goes it is up to the folks behind you to figure it out. My technique is to pass slower traffic that cannot do 90 knots prior to Rippon. The controllers were not very experienced this past year which is why the one mile spacing occurred. If you have pass the slow folks just make sure by Fisk you have the required spacing. The controllers are also using adsb to sort out traffic.

I have been flying in every year since 2011 (except 2016 & 2020) and I know the notam says do not pass, however if you hit endeavor bridge at 70 knots and try and have everyone behind you do the same it will be a complete cluster behind you. This is where common sense has to rear its ugly head and those behind you must do some of that pilot shi* to make it work. Don't get pissy on the radio when folks buzz past you. If you start making waves folks are going to shoot up to 2300 feet and fly fast to get in.

I just picture in my mind what an airplane would look like at the far end of a 5000' runway. Then try to keep that sight picture. It's further away than you think. Most people keep the spacing well enough. The only problems are the "line cutters" and the < 90kt guys. Too many people can't seem to fly 90kts even in airplanes that are more than capable of it. It's not the Cubs and the Champs that cause the problems. It's the Cessnas and the Pipers. Cirrus' don't cause any spacing problems. They are usually so far away from the RR tracks that they aren't in anyone's way. :-) The procedure suggests that aircraft that can't fly 90kts should come in between 0700 and 0730 CDT. Coming in on the Thursday or Friday before the show would probably work too. Sunday afternoon is not the time to fly your 65HP Chief into Airventure.

After completing our course, you'll get a certificate with an endorsement to take the FAA Instrument Pilot - AIrplane Knowledge Test. You can present this to the test center on the day of the test.

The endeavor transition that’s like 40 miles southwest of Oshkosh, yikes good luck with that. That’s why I prefer flying into FLD.

The video is good, however the depiction on the screen for Rippon to Fisk is a bit misleading. You must be directly over the railroad tracks. If you are looking out to the left and can see the tracks you need to slide left and get directly over them.

I don't think Cirrus aircraft are capable of flying over RR tracks. I'm not sure why but I've never seen one directly over the RR tracks, and even this simulated one has problems. Maybe there is some kind of perturbation of the Earths magnetic field that causes RR tracks to push plastic airplanes with parachutes off to one side. It always seems to be the right side too. Curious.
