1) Leave the Aux bus off for start 2) Turn on ignitors before the fuel pump so that you can hear if they are firing. 3) Turn on fuel pump to standby (so you can tell if the fuel pressure switch is working) and then move it to the on position. 4) Use low start. High start puts a real strain on the starter. Also, if you use high start, you don't need to turn on the ignitors. 5) Start a stop watch so that you don't exceed the starter time limts. 6) Look at the Ng. Once it is above 14% introudce the fuel. Make sure the ITT is below 200 degrees C before introducing fuel. 7) Leave the Alternator/generator off during the start sequence 8) You may need to put the condition lever in High idle on the ground if you have the AC on. 9) There is no line on the elevator trim wheel on the real airplane. The MFD displays the elevator trim position. 10) The early Kodiaks needed a bunch of right rudder trim on takeoff. The later Kodiak 100s don't need as much. 11) engage the the AP at 400 Ft agl minimum. 12) 850 ft Pounds of torque + 10 degrees of flaps = 95 kts in level flight 13) In general 95 on downwind, 85 on base, 75 on final. There are exceptions to this.. 14) 450 ft pounds, 20 dergees of flaps on base.

Thanks Robert. I'm curious, have you ever seen the ITT go above 200 on start?
@robertmcmurry3509
@robertmcmurry3509 2 жыл бұрын
@@FlightSimSchool the itt normally goes well over 200 degrees on start up. Typically, between 500-700 is the norm depending on oat and elevation. You don't want to start the start sequence if the itt is over 200 because that greatly increases the chances of a hot start. Have I seen the itt over 200 degrees when I go to start up? Yes, I have.

Thank you! I fly this plane daily with neofly. I like the ability to use the mixed cargo option to l look into the back of the plane and see people and cargo with a heavy load. Brings a more real feeling as this plane in rustic lower populated areas would be carrying both people and supplies to their destinations. I know it sounds like eye candy, but when you push the engine too much and get a failure, those people you looked at before takeoff are the first thing that come to mind. It is a great plane with a lot of options. Thank you and I learned a few tips today. In my opinion. This plane shines in very poor conditions with instrument landings. Hope you try it out.

Very informative video. Mark is definitely the best “teacher” I have seen on KZbin. My biggest take away from this video is the landing sequence. In the real Kodiak, you would not have to maintain anywhere near 800-1000 ft-lbs of torque. If you drop any lower than that in the sim, the plane practically falls out of the sky. I wish it could be modeled to more closely replicate its real-life counter part.

Quick observation here: The engine start sequence begins with the condition lever in the full cutoff position. When you initially hit the starter switch, you are technically 'motoring' the engine without any fuel going to it. All jet engines have to be motored to a minimum rpm before introducing fuel in order for there to be a sufficient amount of air blowing through the engine core before fuel combustion begins. Thus, the proper procedure is to motor the engine to a specified minimum N2 rpm, THEN move the condition lever to start the fuel flow. If you were to immediately have fuel going to the engine before motoring to the minimum start RPM, you'd have hot start condition, which at minimum would cause severe damage to the engine. Worse, you could cause a fire and lose the entire aircraft. ;)

Start sequence in the Kodi, is Batt master and avionics master on, min battery voltage for start is 24V. Power lever idle, prop lever feather, condtion lever cutoff. Aux fuel pump on, ignition on, low start (for first flight of the day). 14% Ng, condition lever to low idle. 52% Ng starter off. Once engine is stable, fuel aux pump to stby, ignition off. Gen on, alternator on. Aux switch can now go on, and then set your cabin temp.

I should have mentioned that in the video: The easiest way to reset it is to do a hot start; so launch the sim, put the condition lever to high, and go through the start up procedure. It’ll instantly kill it, at which point if you go back to the world map and reload it’ll replace your engine.

Your checklist shows a strong elevator up trim in the final. I use about 20% down (in relation to the CG) for starting. What is your experience for the final, you have /// in your checklist. On the discord channel of sws ist a longer discussion about the same matter for the new pc-12.

I never updated the checklist after the updates they made to the Kodiak. I don’t think it needs as much trim on landing anymore, but I’d have to double check to be sure.

Thank You for this Great video this realy helps me enjoy the Kodiak even more. ohhhhh sooo you do not have to wait till %14 on the condition to put it on low idle on start up?? and Prop % 25 low idle and for the engine wear and tear I just turn off the realism in MSFS as that I am happy that I could fly the aircraft no matter which one and not worry about failures unless msfs and or the developer fix that portion of the sim to actually make it more real.

I find the landing to be the most difficult part of flying this aircraft. The amount of time I stalled during approach when adding full flaps! 11:10 you are basically climbing out with Vy?
@FlightSimSchool
@FlightSimSchool 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'll usually use Vy until I'm about at pattern altitude and then lower the pitch for cruise climb. And agreed on landings, it's why I said to give yourself more space and to be gentle on the power because anything but a small change is going to bring the plane out of balance.
