You know, l thought about it and actually I think l would be surprised if Russell didn't speak French, being a devotee of French cinema, and women, one assumes. I recently saw an Orson Welles doc where he is asked a question in French and starts jabbering away...and l think l registered zero surprise.

These guys need to be inducted into the rock and roll Hall of Fame
@McLarenMercedes Жыл бұрын
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke. Two dozen artists who are influential, groundbreaking and talented deserve to be there - Sparks is just one example. Meanwhile "artists" who are mostly famous for being famous or their "legendary music videos", who never composed a single song or who made their name from covers of other artists are in it. Btw, last I heard who gets inducted in the rock and roll "Hall of Fame" is mostly a *public vote* (!!). Well, no wonder then that some get inducted for being "familiar names" while others who truly made their own mark, broke their own ground and were cited as an important influence to others are/were overlooked.

Aha, I was not too far behind you: I was nine when I first heard 'This town ain't big enough...' on the radio (1974), and it blew apart my whole concept of what a song can be. (That song still blows me away.) I dragged my parents straight out to buy the new Kimono album.

I saw Sparks live about a month ago and Russell said something that struck Ron as funny, and he not only smiled, but was laughing joyously. It was worth the ticket price just to see that. Such an interesting man. And Russell too. How many brothers do you know of that have been that close their entire lives, and became legends at the same time? Quite a story, those two! We will not see their like again, as it is said.

It’s all coming together in the most SPARKS way of all. A lot of lifetime achievement awards coming just as that title or given out to the new project, as actors who the academy feel guilty about will hand out the award to whatever he or she is in this year. I’ve always dream NT if them doing something with the UCLA bruins, an at the rose bowl HT show but HT at thee rose bowl game on January 1 featuring the bruins or really any match up would be too good. All these years a fan and never knew that Todd Rundgren was a part of the sparks saga way before anyone could’ve have guessed it would be one. Then to work again 50 years later? That has to be a first for an artist/producer in any genre anywhere in the world. I was talking to Bingenhiemer years ago at a Lush show in the parking lot and a car is blasting “cool places” and he tells me Andy Warhol was a massive sparks fan and I tell him I read somewhere he thought blondie was the best group ever, and he says the go go’s and blondie, really hard to tell, and that blondie didn’t have Charlotte or Jane in their band, they had other GUYS, and “you have to remember the bangles too”. I remember this verbatim stuff cus it’s like he’s doing a radio show for just my gf and I in the parking lot. Biggest sparks regret is I was at a job hard to get away from and I couldn’t go to the album I wanted to for the 21 NIGHTS 21 ALBUMS thing so I didn’t go to the one I could get there for. They are the band that people don’t mind like talking for hours about, I mean there’s so much and so many like little factoid things every fan knows that nobody else knows. The genius and longevity is just unnatural .

Ron never speaks unless he has something important to say. I saw them in March and at the end Russell was doing the "thank you all" thing and everyone was cheering. He handed the mic to Ron and 3000 people were instantly silent. He gave us a very heartfelt thank you for our support of the band over the years and how much it meant to them (him). There were a few moist eyes in the crowd.

Could the translator have let Ron speak? She jumped in after 5 words, before he even finished the joke. Those who speak french, did she at least translate all the rest, which we could not hear from Ron himself? One of my big gripes with non-Nordic European countries is that they just can't seem to teach people English in schools, and they even dub foreign films into their own language, which is extremely disrespectful. The majority of French citizens, for example, have never heard the actual performances of their favorite Hollywood actors, which is ridiculous.
