@@Wildernessquestoutdoors Archaeologists should do some AI computer modeling of existing quality points, to better understand the science of how it was done. Personally, I believe if you took an object, preferably metal of slightly narrower than desired chip width & preheated the desired chip flake area, immediately before chipping, it would chip easier & far more accurately! Something like obsidian would want to chip or crack, just because of a big temperature differential. You want to create about half that much differential in the right location, then introduce the vibration of impact. pre-chilling the whole object, then heating the impact location, would work best. Neanderthal lived around the ice age & often did their work near the fire locations, correct? What if this was the technique?
