Notes: Rod Litzau was back in the cockpit of USA-1 after taking a couple weeks off to get healthy. USA-1 didn't stay right-side up for long though. Litzau flipped the truck violently end-over-end for the 6th time during its second round match-up with Dave Wieczorek's Night Life. This flip pretty much sealed the fact that USA-1 would not be champion for the second year in a row, opening the door for the likes of Gary Porter and Carolina Crusher, along with David Morris and Equalizer. Marvin Smith's Stomper continued its nightmare of a season after blowing the transmission at the starting line. This event marked the debut of Kurt Fisher's monster truck career. Kurt had made a name for himself piloting mud boggers before filling in for Bob Breen and driving Mad Dog, while Bob's brother Jon jumped into Wild Hair. Fisher would return in later years to pilot the Breen brothers' Micro Machines truck. Porter took a bad bounce, disqualifying himself and giving Dennis Anderson's Grave Digger an easy trip to the finals, however Equalizer would take the win after Grave Digger blew an engine.
