In many aspects, this game addresses the exact type of game I've been trying to develop myself: a Pirate themed TRPG, albeit they went with a more random formula while I'm trying to cover historical facts (I come from a City which historically has a lot of Pirates so I want to include that in it). This and Expeditions: Conquistador are the two games that most closely resemble what I want to achieve, it is really appreciated for me that you do this review. To you, reader, May you wander in wisdom

Great review. Been waiting for this, but 10 hours seems a bit short. Not against shorter games but a bit costly at £35.
@grey_wulf9 сағат бұрын
Agreed
@paulodelima57057 сағат бұрын
For 35, don't think so. Games costing 60 usually are 20-30 hours.
@craigambler32826 сағат бұрын
30 hours is a good number and if a good game worth whatever they want. Saying that I normally now wait for sale. 10 hours is 3 evening playtime. There is no mention of any replayability, and has it seems linear it is a one time play. I normally play these game once anyway so replayability is mote. I got stung with Thaumaturge recently as that finished before I had got into it. Wait for sale I think.

I'm not saying it's a long game but I tend to think if Mort says a game lasts a certain amount of time you can usually times that by 1.5 (so 15 in this case). He's a master at motoring through games without pause. Most of the rest of us are going to get distracted, fiddle with things a bit more and generally play through slower because we don't have another game queued up to play afterwards already. Plus the review doesn't actually mention a price anyway.

I think it's worth mentioning that the intro of the story is the exact recreation of the beginning of Roman Polansky' "Pirates". The writers of this game are definitely men of culture.

I think there's a market for shorter, cost effective games for people like me who don't always have a ton of time to commit but want to explore new stories. I'd love it if a studio just ran a series of 1 or 2 act adventures with the same game engine and mechanics so I could blow through them. As long as this one's cheap enough, they had me at "loot based experience".

Thanks Mortym! Comic book style to handle the story looks cool. I've just picked up several indie games all for about $20, and I have been (again) delightfully surprised. I like it when things get weird. Onward!

So it's a Treasure Island prequel?
@truckingwithatablet448911 сағат бұрын
I believe that was the Show Black Flag.
@LuiBang10 сағат бұрын
You play as James Flint. That practically makes it an unofficial "Black Sails The TRPG".
@fnordiumendures1389 сағат бұрын
@@truckingwithatablet4489 Yeah, but I do believe Treasure Island came first, being from 1883 and all.

Hey Mort, do you always include the approximate length of the game you are reviewing? If not, that would be a welcomed addition to each review. The length of a game is actually really important for busy blokes like me. If a game is short, I'm more likely to make an impulse buy (especially if you give it a positive review). The bigger, longer games can be a tough decision to get into because of the time commitment required for a proper playthrough. "How long to play" helps me to know how to prioritize when I'm considering picking up a title.
@zulium6 сағат бұрын
I'm ok with the short length, sometimes I just want a game I can consume in a session or two, and the bugs and glitches can hopefully be fixed with patches, but what I really don't like are the artstyle inconsistencies for some reason. Having all the portraits and world be this semi-realistic "authentic" pirate look of the era, then the cutscenes go into this "Dark Horse comic" style is really weird imo. I know that's a odd thing to gripe about but it's really throwing me off lol

does anybody else say “what’s going on everybody…Mortym here…” in their best Mortym voice when the intro music begins. … … No? Just me?

PlayStation store has it listed as $40. Seems grossly overpriced for a game of this size
@armelior461011 сағат бұрын
So a pure tactics game disguised as a cRPG then ? Those are fun too but I was hoping for more, no point moving on a map if there is very little to find and only one linear path.
