Watching you, and others, thin these spalls is magical! I have created a small pile of turtle backs and hinges, but I'm gonna learn yet! Thanks for great content!

I’d love to watch you try chalcedony, once in a blue moon I’ll dig a chunk up while digging for artifacts. If I can get my hands on some I’ll send it your way!

I like that big piece of Texas stuff laying on your chair that you have into a pre-form. Looks like it’s gonna be a nice piece.

Interesting piece of stone. I live in La. and our only type of petrified wood is petrified palm. I’m going to try to find some of that to work with, see if I can get the same grain patterns in it that you got from that piece of wood.

That is Palmwood....the state rock of Texas.

Is that petrified palm wood? The "dots" on the ends and the striated look along the inside sure look like palm wood. The wood is made up of long individual strands, almost like bristles on a broom, that are compressed together to make the "solid" wood. The wood is a PITA to work with because when you cut it, and especially when you try to file or sand it, the individual stands try to separate. I've been curious how much of an issue that would be when knapping it petrified.

I think the more agate like palm wood would work better for ya. You have to heat it also.

You talking about a Clovis point let’s see a make a 1112 inch Clovis point fluted all the way to the tip on both sides. I think you’re a good enough Flynt napper that you can do it you can pick whatever type of material you want to use I love Clovis points. I finally made my first one a week ago.

I would like to see some arrowheads made from it. I'm a bowhunter since 1975, currently trying to take a deer with a stone point I made on an arrow shaft I made from a shoot from the woods. Shooting a bow I made, bamboo backed Osage that's number 350. I started building wood bows in 1993.

You need a more Agatized piece of Petrified Wood… I think… We get quite a bit of Petrified Wood here in Southeast Texas, on the West Branch of the San Jacinto…

I'm curious, will it spark on a steel striker? If so, potential gun flints too.

Don’t seem like 600 degrees was enough. The outside seemed better than the middle.

For flakability 650 would be best, but since im banging on it with percussion I decided 600 to maintain some durability👍🏼 I have thinner pieces that heated perfectly so I’m glad I tested at this temp. Also the grains in the stone are no help😂 but doing my best

Looks like it has a preference for flaking along the grain of the wood.. interesting..🤔
