My granddaughter loves your videos. You’re helping me teach her these skills. She’s about to be 9 years old.

Heat treated Keokuk is fairly easy to knap. It's not really my favorite though because there aren't many artifact in my are made from it but my friends love the points I've made from Keokuk. It's the crazy colors that is the attraction.

Thanks, youve inspired me to buy a beginners kit and start knapping

My wife called Keokuk strawberry milkshake because of the redish streaks through it. It flakes really well, and has been one of my favorites.

I just received my Mastery kit and a Abo kit also, going to hit my first rocks today. I am a lot more nervous than I thought I would be HAHAHA.

Knapped heated keokuk a lot and it’s good stuff but has a tendency to hinge if the force isn’t applied correctly. Raw is fun too. However it can be even more troublesome if not experienced with the hertzian cone pattern. Raw is white rather than pink.

Do you have a video on sharpening flintlock flints?

I’m puttting this here just cause it’s the most recent video but how do you dry rivercane without shriveling it? I just got the biggest one I could find to make a blowgun and it’s winkling

Can you show us how to heat treat?? Thank you!
@briantaulbee6452 Жыл бұрын
I can. The easiest way is to use an electric turkey roaster and treat rock at 425 degrees for 4 to 6 hours. Try it out after it cools and if needed, treat again at 450 degrees for a couple more hours. There's no exact science involved because all rock is different. Even the same piece of rock can be awesome on one end and a pain in the butt on the other.

I started flint knapping with trash rock since I am too lazy to buy good stuff or heat treat the grainy chert I find at road cuts in my area. The keokuk in the video looks easy. Maybe I could finally succeed in making something usable if I had it.

I bought some of your Keokuk. The rock I received was rather chalky, not glossy or smooth like I expected. Having very little luck running any kind of flakes across it. It just wants to make hundreds of little fractured micro steps instead of sending a flake. I really took my time setting up platforms... who knows?

Turned out to only be a problem with a couple of the pieces, one in particular just didn't want to play. I managed several really nice points out others.
