We’ve already went over swords, knives, axes, daggers; weapons that were designed for up close and personal combat. Along with cannons, pirates were also armed with pistols, muskets, and the blunderbuss for fighting from a distance. Pistols were commonly carried and often a pirate would carry multiple pistols at the same time. It was also common for pirates to tie two pistols together with a silk ribbon and hang them over their necks. In film it’s often shown that a pirate would use their pistol and toss it aside, but that is not the case. These weapons were certainly not disposable and, once fired, they were secured in the pirates belt or allowed to hang from ribbon around the neck. If the pirate had the opportunity to reload he would do so, preferring the ranged attacks instead of fighting with a sword. The pistol could also be reversed and used as a club once fired.

This stuff is super useful for dungeons and dragons. Could you do a video on the pirate code and/or how the heirarchy of a pirate crew might behave?

I think I'd go with a musket. Even when the shot was spent you could still beat the snot out of someone with it.

Great video mate, Were did you get the information that a musket could accurately hit a 20" by 20" @ 300feet? That would be an INCREDIBLE shot with a smooth bore.

Very good info. I got the chanced to fire a flintlock rifle at the gun range. Learned three things from it: Not all that accurate, needs to be cleaned alot or wont fire, and it is an art to fire and reload quickly! Lol.

Sharpshooting from a mast of a moving or rocking boat sounds difficult, you'd have to be a very good shot. And lol at the stink bombs.

Yes, but sometimes they only cared about softening up the crew of the ship they were about to board, so firing at the top deck of the ship would likely result in them hitting somebody. They’d of course try to prioritize high value targets like the captain if possible

Maybe I am wrong or didn't fully understand the words. But a Smooth bore musket on a 20x20 inch target at 300 Yards? No Smooth bore is capable such accuracy
