An inspiring, tidy planner!! Thank you!! I went through a fairly similar journey of doing bullet journaling then moving it to discs (first to rings then discs). I'm loving them except to start out on low budget got cheap plastic and thin paper and for unpunched pages using hack of hole punch with scissor slits which is fine but sorta loose. Looking forward to upgrading to thick paper and aluminum discs soon and a Levenger big punch! In meantime adding washi to edges like you do helps somewhat. From what I hear those changes will make pages stay in even better and turn smoother. If still doesn't feel secure enough for me I'll maybe switch back to rings. But am very enamored by discs and that puncher is pricey (on sale today!) so hope it works!
@KalynBrookeCo2 жыл бұрын
Thicker pages will make a huge difference! But yes, I love the washi tape trick.

@@KalynBrookeCo Thanks!! Just saw I commented here twice (forgot) and you replied twice! 🙂Maybe this comment will help someone and/or get me even more advice: The Levenger biggest punch is on its way (still big sale on Levenger products by the way!) cause detailed videos all show it's the best disc punch out there for serious use with I think the ARC punch and possibly TUL punch close runners-up (I'm starting a planner shop). Happy Planner punch has some issues but it has longer "mushroom" stems if someone specifically wants to use all Happy Planner punched inserts. And ordered Levenger aluminum discs cause I hear aluminum works better than plastic. (Maybe other companies have even more color options for aluminum discs but wasn't sure if they'd be exact shape as Levenger ones which I assume were designed to work great with Levenger punch "mushroom" holes.) I'll pick thick enough (but not too thick) paper after more research on that. For a cheaper, faster start, I began with ARC plastic 1" discs and Staples Martha Stewart pages and pages come out too easily when flipping through it. Not recommended. I so hope this will fix that issue. Maybe even thicker paper or plastic for certain much-used inserts.

Thank you. I tried to use a combination of bujo and letter sized discbound when I was working. But, I missed the printed pages so I’ll be heading to your library! Now retired, i still like the bujo concept and purchased a junior discbound. Love it. I want to track gardening activities (planting, pruning, fertilizing, pest control, and notes about specific plants). I also want to track exercise without a specific notebook.
@KalynBrookeCo4 жыл бұрын
Those are great things to track in a bullet journal!! One of my favorite things about the bujo system is how flexible it is!

YES. Drawing out all the calendars takes sooo much time!
@sharondipaolo35704 жыл бұрын
Yes. It’s great to combine the two. While I keep my work calendar electronically to coordinate with co workers, every week I print it, punch it, and put it in the disc bound planner. I have a tab for each organization i am in, a tab for to do lists, and a tab for notes. I always have what I need with me.

I love the idea of the increased flexibility with the disc-bound. With the printables, do you use standard copy paper?
@KalynBrookeCo4 жыл бұрын
I should have said that in the video! I use 32lb paper from Amazon. It's a bit thicker so it's sturdier and the pens don't bleed through. Here's the exact paper I use: amzn.to/2VDzyPH (this will work if you are using Letter or Half Letter size)

Hi Kalyn, I recently switched to a disc bound notebook because I like the flexibility. The only thing that bugs me is the discomfort when writing because of the discs that block my right hand. I was wondering how you do write comfortably in your notebook?
@KalynBrookeCo Жыл бұрын
The flexibility is so key! And I understand what you mean about the discs blocking your hand and making it harder to right. I usually pull out the page to write on it and then pop it back in when I'm finished. I just try to be really careful so I don't loosen the punched side too much. If it's a page I know I'll be adding to often, I add a strip of washi tape down the side BEFORE I punch for added stability. I hope that helps!

I had absolutely no idea disc-bound journals were a thing. I tried the normal ones that you can basically use like a folder but I hated how you had to rest your hands on those metal binders if you were writing on the left page (I am right-handed). I might give this one a go if I ever get back to a paper journaling method :)

Yes! While digital is so much better for me now, having the ability to really customize what and how the layout is was a HUGE plus!!

There are libraries that allow out of state access that you can get online. Most charge a fee but averaged annually, it's's pretty affordable. That might be a way to get your Libby access back!

We actually discovered this outside Phoenix! We didn't have to pay a fee, but could only borrow three books at a time (which was fine with me!)

@JoeCool05104 жыл бұрын
Excellent video! Do you have a system for the archiving of your pages? I know that Ryder Carroll simply dates his books and files them that way, but with a disc bound system you're either filing the pages or filing the entire disc-bound journal (without re-using it). What is your archiving system?
@KalynBrookeCo4 жыл бұрын
Great question. I have another Discbound notebook that is specifically for archiving. I don't archive everything though, so it allows me to not end up saving quite as many pages as I would if I were still working out of a bound notebook.
@JoeCool05104 жыл бұрын
Kalyn Brooke yes that’s what I was thinking - you could just save the most valuable collections and recycle your “laundry lists” so to speak...
@robgrant014 жыл бұрын
I and considering moving from GTD to Bullet Journaling and really want to do this in a Levenger, disc-bound notebook. I will probably archive in a separate notebook with larger rings, but I am also considering scanning the pages into Evernote, that way they are preserved and searchable.

this is great! How do you archive things from this, or do you not archive things?
@KalynBrookeCo3 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! I don't have a fancy archiving system. I usually just wait until the notebook is full, and then start fresh with a new one! The great thing about a discbound notebook is that you can move pages that are still relevant into a new notebook without having to copy the information onto a new page.
@SKhan-iz5si3 жыл бұрын
@@KalynBrookeCo yes, that's what got me to try it! think I need to up my organizing some things. Like I end up taking notes from webinars etc on a range of topics, which I used to index in the past bujos...will have to figure out a way to find these later!

I’m in a traditional bullet journal and it’s not working so well because all of my lists every where! I like the idea of this kind of notebook a lot!! When do you actually change to a new notebook if this one can keep expanding?
@KalynBrookeCo4 жыл бұрын
I'm almost at capacity actually! And I believe I have 3/4" discs. So I'm considering going to 1" or 1.5" discs to expand what my notebook can hold. I also should have mentioned this in the video, but I only keep two months in my planning section at a time (last month and the current one). The other pages that I don't need anymore, but want to save, go in an "Archive" disc-bound notebook. Hope that helps!
