I really wish I saw this a year and a half ago when I didn't know what the heck I was doing with my Notion. 😅 But then again this video is only 6 months old. But with what I've built now, I can say I've applied all of these as I learned them along the way myself. I hope many Notion beginners see (and apply) these tips as well! Might I add one more thing: Don't be afraid to integrate formulas! It'll fast track everything. 😊

How do you get your events to not color the entire bock. It looks like your work block only covers 70% of the block and the other blocks are offset. I'm trying to figure that part out.
@KalynBrookeCo
@KalynBrookeCo 2 күн бұрын
Are you using two different calendars? I believe this is showing offset because they are time blocks from two separate calendars layered on top of one another instead of from one calendar. Let me know if that works!

I used to only use an analog system (e.g. paper lists, planners, etc.), but this year I've decided to try using Apple Calendar and Reminders for lists. It took some time to get used to it, but now I find it so convenient because my planner is always with me. I still use a paper notebook for journaling though. The main reason I switched was because it seemed wasteful to me to keep buying planners year after year just to throw them away, whereas I don't throw away my journals.
@KalynBrookeCo
@KalynBrookeCo 13 күн бұрын
That makes sense! It's good to find a system that works for you, and I agree it is hard, without journaling, to justify tossing each year.

Thank you this is so amazing. Your Bill tracker has already come out and that is amazing too! If I needed to add additional cycles (ie weekly, bimonthly) is it fairly simple as in just add these to the formula? I was confused about the additional "if" statement as well and wondered if this would need to be part of these added cycles. Thank you!
@KalynBrookeCo
@KalynBrookeCo 29 күн бұрын
I'm so glad you've enjoyed the videos! You can definitely add additional cycles. For a weekly cycle, you would add this to the formula: Cycle=="Weekly", dateAdd(Start Date, dateBetween(now(), Start Date, "weeks") + 1, "weeks") And then with bi-monthly, you'll add 2 "months". Technically, you don't need the extra "if" as long as you are starting with "ifs", so you can continue the formula as long as you want. Just make sure the last part of the statement always says what happens if none of the previous IF statements are true (which in this case, would default to the Month cycle, because we never called that out). Example of adding a weekly cycle into the formula: ifs(prop("Cycle")=="Annual", dateAdd(prop("Start Date"), dateBetween(now(), prop("Start Date"), "years") + 1, "years"), prop("Cycle")=="Quarterly", dateAdd(prop("Start Date"), dateBetween(now(), prop("Start Date"), "quarters") + 1, "quarters"), prop("Cycle")=="Semi-Annual", dateAdd(prop("Start Date"), dateBetween(now(), prop("Start Date"), "years") + 1/2, "years"), prop("Cycle")=="Bi-Monthly", dateAdd(prop("Start Date"), dateBetween(now(), prop("Start Date"), "months") +2, "months"), prop("Cycle")=="Weekly", dateAdd(prop("Start Date"), dateBetween(now(), prop("Start Date"), "weeks") + 1, "weeks"), dateAdd(prop("Start Date"), dateBetween(now(), prop("Start Date"), "months") + 1, "months"))

Hi! I've been following your channel for a while, you've introduced me to Notion! I've been using YNAB for about 2 years now, and I love it! Question, why do you cross reference your targets in Notion instead of using YNAB targets? If those targets don't change regularly, you could add some periodic reconciliation between YNAB targets and Notion targets, if you like seeing them in both places!
@KalynBrookeCo
@KalynBrookeCo Ай бұрын
I'm so glad you love Notion (and YNAB!) You can definitely use YNAB targets to track how much you want to set aside for that category for the month. I like to see them separately because I combine a lot of my YNAB categories into main categories in Notion. Example: "Health Insurance" in Notion rolls up insurance from our monthly health insurance and annual dental insurance, so I can see how much I spend per month on Health Insurance (which includes the monthly breakdown of dental), but I keep separate categories for those in YNAB because I pay one monthly and the other I build up throughout the year to pay annually. The category of "Subscriptions" is the same category in Notion and YNAB, but I wouldn't know how many subscriptions make up that category unless I track it in Notion. Currently, I have 10 subscriptions, so if I need to cut back, I can look through my list and see what I can cancel. It's definitely not necessary to keep them in Notion and YNAB, but it works for my brain! :)

I came here from your "best of digital & paper" hybrid planning video and was wondering if you are still using paper at all or are you totally digital now? Just curious bc I've been completely digital for the most part when it comes to planning, and have been thinking lately I want to re-incorporate paper planning again, but not sure if that's the right move or not. I still have to fill out the match guide to see what would work best for me, but was curious where you were at currently with paper planning and how that fits into all of this if you are still using it. I know in that video you also mentioned Google Calendar and now you're using Morgen, so thought maybe you stopped paper planning too.
