Louis Armstrong!!! Lena Horne singing Rocky Racoon is something I never expected to see in my lifetime. What a show! Ella Fitzgerald (her voice gave me cold chills) and Flip doing a great duet. Roberta Flack's Mr. Magic was wonderful, I had never heard it before. Jam-packed with black talent who were the most famous names of American music. The Temptations, Gladys Night and the Pips, Stevie Wonder, Harry Belafonte.

Roberta: What a magical voice. It can truly do anything, straight tone, then a wide vibrato. A soft huskiness then she'll open up and project. SO unlike the bland monochromatic voices of today vocalists. And she has an artistic expression to USE that instrument! Just that short TV performance is a clinic.

Flip Wilson was way ahead of his time. He had the entertainers and athletes are the stars of his show. Flip Wilson and Bill Cosby never use profanity of thier jokes but Flip and Bill have something in common, great storytellers. Also I have to put Arsenio Hall in there too. He made his guests comfortable Arsenio asked great questions and he made his band the co stars.

I’ve always loved Gladys Knight…. But I never really ‘felt’ “The Pipps” for some stupid lame reason. I don’t know who their agent was, or was aware of their payment contract, because it’s always been about her, she was the lead vocalist and had first Billing. We’re the Pipps family relations or something… I’ll have to do some researching because I don’t get it. Music pundits , Radio/TV interviewers, DJ’s , even live audience question and answer segments have have stated that she was the top draw and why did she bother with these three ‘unknown nobodies’….. I will say this though…. She could care less what people thought, it seemed she was fiercely loyal to them, that’s for sure…..
