Several months back I watched one of your videos where you had mentioned Sportsman's Outfitters. I pretty much buy all of my fishing gear there now. Cheapest place I've bought from! Next purchase I make I'll definitely click on the link from one of your videos.

Heres a massive tip. If you arent flipping INTO cover do NOT peg your texas rig. It kills the action in open water. You want that weight to slide and hit bottom first. Letting the bait float down more naturally. the majority of your bites will come on the fall or just after you hop it for a reason. Use as light of a weight as possible as well.

I pitch pretty well an cast well. My pitching needs work, sadly sometimes the line shoots straight up an smashes back down on the water. It's probably flipping too hard an letting line go alittle too late. When warmer weather comes back I'll work more on all my techniques more for sure. I know also alot of lures I need work on executing the action. Jerkbaits, Texas rigs Carolina rigs underspins, chatterbait square bill. Sadly it's alot, but its only my 3rd back after not being able fish for several years due to circumstances. Hopefully after a few more years I'll be a more skilled fisherman

I absolutely agree about the baits not really mattering that much and especially the trolling motor! A lot of guys pull in at WOT, and drop that trolly on 10 and just rocket around everywhere. The trolling motor has lower settings for a reason. Another big thing for me is pitching techniques. If I'm on an open hydrilla mats, I don't have to be as precise, but if I'm flipping into flooded brush, accuracy matters. You have to keep that bait low to the water and not skyrocket it. It's something you have to practice. I did a couple of videos on it 😉.

Surprised you didn’t get into hook choice. I know lots of guys like snelled straight shank, some like EWG. I’m a beginner to this technique so I lean towards keeping it simple at least at start and using EWGs, since they serve multiple purposes and I don’t have to learn a new knot (not that it looks very hard). Thoughts?
@theangleraquarist2 жыл бұрын
Ewg is good for just about everything, but for flipping, use a snelled straight shank if you can as the hookup ratio is better

@BassFishinhHQ Do you have an opinion on hook type? I tend to prefer a superline EWG hook because the point is not always poking through the plastic and getting hung in cover.
@theangleraquarist2 жыл бұрын
The key with round bend and straight shanks it to rig it where the hookpoint is right ABOUT to penetrate the plastic. Keeps it weedless and amazing hookup ratio
@unicornsteaks67692 жыл бұрын
@@theangleraquarist yeah, I do that. I’ll rig the EWG up with the hook all the way through and then skin hooked. Anything bites down the hook is exposed. I just don’t prefer a flipping hook because the seem to work out of the plastic more often.

Your trolling motor theory is absolutely true and I agree with you completely. It's actually one the most valuable things that I have learned about fishing. They feel it from a long, long distance and they get used to it, so it doesn't startle them like it would if you are starting and stopping it. Great video bud.

I took a 17-18 year break from fishing, i had lost my bass boat from a divorce i had and then got my spine blown out so i was pretty much handicap and legs were paralyzed untill surgery and many years of therapy. So i bought a new bass boat last October and didn’t upgrade the trolling motor, i had no idea what was out their in choices of TM’s because i lost touch with fishing and products. I got a MK Edge as the standard TM and lord that thing is loud, i cant adjust the shaft length etc etc. im saving up for a new MK TM.

The saw theory with braided line is an old notion that people still cling to , most braids now are made nice and smooth and doesn't hang any more than filament line, it's just not true , fishing braid to leader is way more sensitive and durable than fishing straight mono or fluorocarbon lines and less finicky on your reel, and easier to pick backlashes 😉

A really good informative video and from my personal experience you have made some very good points all of which I agree with. You should add the hookset to that. A snap hookset hardly moves the fish from that cover you need to really lean into the fish to move his head and head him in the right direction also clean your hands!! I have lost many fish from oily hands when putting on a new bait.
@drewbarnabei84772 жыл бұрын
Great tips. I have used braid quite a bit when our lakes flood and there is a lot of buck brush in the water. Fish will get in them or behind them. The branches are small and fluorocarbon has too much stretch for it but braid will break the branches when you hook a fish. I agree 100% with using fluorocarbon around more solid wood though
