I don't want to be nit-picky, but Charlemagne was crowned emperor in Rome, not in Aachen. He is buried in Aachen, though. If a GM bases the game more on the epics rather than actual history, the aging rules should be adapted as well. For example, Charlemagne is said to be 200 years old in the Chanson de Roland (stanza 40). Although the emperor was a very exceptional individual, you could probably expect the PCs to live to a very old age as well unless they get killed in combat.

This looks like a very high quality product not usually a fan of RPG war gaming being more my thing but this looks very interesting hope you change your mind and do play it soon ( i know so many games so little time) i would very much like to see a play through series on this from forming a character to your first adventure

you may enjoy Bernard Cornwall's 10 book series "The Saxon Tales" .. excellent story.. not sure if roleplayers could form a decent shieldwall though :). Also reminds me of an ancient PC game called Darklands. would love to hear more.

So as a roleplayer who has actually BEEN in a shield wall... you might be surprised at the effectiveness of mass. That's all I'll say.

So it's d20, but there's no OGL logo on the back?

It uses a d20 but is not "the d20 system" like the D&D OGL. It's its own thing.

It's a version of the Chaosium d100 system ("Call of Cthulhu", "Runequest", "Stormlord" etc.) where the d100 (two d10) were replaced with a single d20. The first Chaosium d20 system was Pendragon - which focuses on a whole family you play, not a single character. The "Great Pendragon Campaign" was the best roleplaying experience I had so far in my life - and I played more than 50 different systems so far! Unfortunately the Paladin system never got something like this giant Pendragon campaign... This is very different to the D&D OGL d20 system.
