The original Flir One was a "sled" specifically designed to work with the iPhone 5/5s, and I bought one to use in helping fellow amputees pinpoint fit issues with prostheses. Not as intuitive as it might seem, and the results were promising. It wasn't needed for a couple of years, but then it was. I was still using the 5s, so hooked it up and it worked great - for 60 seconds before going dark. Power-cycled, it again worked for 60 seconds, then failed. In what was absolutely the worst, most rude customer service experience I've ever encountered in many years of buying stuff, I learned that Flir decided to stop supporting the software for the original model, even though the 5s was still being supported in iOS at the time, and the SE still is today, so the original would continue to be in use. Flir then offered a discount on a new purchase, but only on the most expensive model, with capabilities that I didn't need. Flir makes great equipment, but understand that they apparently feel no loyalty to, or appreciation for, their customers, and may seemingly drop support for the model you buy today, even though it would otherwise still work.

8.7fps is not what gives you the stutter. What gives you the stutter is automatic recalibration, which when it happens, the aperture is blocked by a small motorized shield that presumably has the same temperature as the sensor chip, so the sensor will read its own IR emission. The value is then subtracted during normal operation, so that you are reading the true temperature of the target, not the sensor. Otherwise you won't be able to reliably read temperatures lower than the sensor. Recalibration is triggered by rapid temperature change, extreme temperatures or timer expiration, so it may seem a bit random, but that's exactly what it's designed to do.
@tydlig5 жыл бұрын
Great answer, thanks for the detail =) We have an older IR camera at work and it stutters so much. About 2 second every 30 seconds. Really annoying. This seems to be really fast with calibration.

@@RynaxAlien Its probably because similar advanced infrared cameras are used in military technology, and the government doesn't want companies possibly exporting that advanced tech to other countries.

@@Ry_TSG the interesting things that might prove this theory is if there are commercial IR cameras that are only possible to get in other countries or in other regions like in Europe. If it’s possible to get a camera with a faster refresh rate in let’s say the UK then that could prove that it might be the government technically that is to blame for less advanced Commercial IR cameras. If it’s possible to buy a faster camera from Europe or something and it gets blocked at the border when you import it then it could prove the theory true.

wauue the app is free !! mindblowing 1:27 , lol are you making an commercial or what?? if you dont have the app you cant use the freaking product. stop bending your lack of backbone in the chase for coins. but yeah a commercial disguised since you doint even point out the other alternative wich got massive 4 times the resolution. i regards to the seek pro IOS with 320x240 thermal sensor (77k) vs this 120x160 (19k). biggest advantage with this, is less grain (could be the lower res) and the MSX outline tech. but also a huge cons this inbuild batt imo. weird they can feed it on the power line, the seek pro with way higher res consumes something 0.250ma at nominel usb
@AxelRoest5 жыл бұрын
You conveniently forgot to mention that the Seek Pro, while a worthy competitor, is still *more* expensive, at $499. If money is no objection, this Fluke is a lot better still, with 1024x768 resolution *and* a 30 Hz framerate. www.fluke.com/en-us/product/thermal-imaging/infrared-cameras/expert-series/fluke-tix1000
