First of all, I am so super sorry for the delay. I've been really awful about leaving youtube comments recently, so I do apologise for only getting to this now. But I'm going to gush like I always do! Because holy GOD you are good at this. Seriously. Incredible audio. First of all, your sound design is fucking *pristine*. Every little thing you added builds the scene so ridiculously well and creates such an immersive audio. From the simple stuff like crowd ambience, to the tiny details like the card flipping and stuff like that? I fucking stunned. Massive props on that front. This was absolutely worth the wait through a long work day! I've heard a few iterations of this script before, but I have to say yours is by far my favorite! The way you enunciate, give life to the character, and portray the character's personality put your performance at a higher level than any variation I have heard and listening made me incredibly happy, as always! You're always so kind to my enunciation! I've worked on that and my elocution since I was a kid (trying to suppress a strong regional accent ftw?), but I've sort of let the practice slide in recent years, so all I hear when I'm editing an audio are the slight errors that keep sneaking past me.^^;

I'm from the Smoky Mountains on the border of Tennessee and North Carolina, so my natural accent is what people call hillbilly, and it can sometimes slip out when I'm recording, so I 100% understand what that's like. You are absolutely fantastic and your work is always so enjoyable! It's honestly got me in the mood to start recording again!

Thank you! And tarot cards are actually quite interesting! I know some people treat them as magical occult artifacts, but I think they're a lot more like plain old inkblots or abstract art. They're full of universal symbols, and honestly what images jump out at you and what you feel when you see them matters more than what guidebooks say they mean. It's like...when you see a cloud, and you're like "Hey, that looks like my mom!" you're probably subconsciously thinking about your mom more than the cloud actually looks like her. Tarot cards are the same. More a reflection of a person's subconscious thoughts than a magical, all-seeing fortune teller. ^^

Tarot cards make me think of several things: the bosses from The House of the Dead games, that scene from The Curse of Monkey Island where Guybrush gets five "Death" cards, the James Bond film "Live and Let Die", the song "Friends on the Other Side" from "The Princess and the Frog", and of course the Arcana Force archetype from Yu-Gi-Oh. There are a few reasons, but here’s the most compelling: I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but sometimes ASMRtists are forced-either by youtube’s policies or by the copyright holders of the images they use in thumbnails-to remove/blur their videos. This happens when youtube decides an image is against their guidelines (often if it’s ~too sexy/violent/otherwise suggestive~) or if a copyright holder decides you can’t use their art. If you use an image as just a thumbnail, it’s very easy to swap it out for something else. When you use an image in a video, however, you can’t edit it out without taking the video down completely. (My first few videos contained images before I realized the inadequate editing allowances of the platform.) This is a sticky enough ethical/legal problem for youtubers who use random images they “borrowed” from google images. That adds art theft to the mix which is generally a slam dunk in court if the artist decides to sue. I’m generally safe from that particular charge as I use stock images, but the drawback is they’re under even more complex legal restrictions. If an artist/copyright holder decides my usage of their image goes against the stock site’s contract that I agreed to, I can still be sued. (Some sites have clauses about not using their stock in “objectionable” content, and as you can imagine that’s very subjective when it comes to ASMR.) I’m very careful about staying within the terms of my contracts, but you never know when someone will get a bug up their shorts and get Cease and Desist happy. So, in short: using images as thumbnails makes it easier for me to comply with potential C&Ds without sacrificing the quality or availability of my videos for my audience. If I ever get a C&D, rather than having to take down a video, I can just swap out the thumbnail with no interruption in service for my listeners. If you want videos with thumbnails throughout, those of course exist. Which is great! I understand the draw of visuals when it comes to immersion. I worry for other ASMRtists exposing themselves to such legal risk, but ultimately that’s their choice. But personally: unless some high roller comes along willing to cover my potential legal costs, which even in small scale copyright disputes can measure in tens of thousands of dollars, I’m playing it safe. Therefore, I treat my thumbnails as advertising for the type of character featured in the audio. I feel I deliver on that advertising, even if the videos themselves feature only my channel name.

@@VanillaVelvetAudioIt depends what angle you look at it from and how you “tare the scale”. For my point, I was using a modern-traditionalist scale. The point was less about her (and others similar to her) being particularly feminine, but rather that they would be more feminine (on that scale) than many of modern day women of a similar age. I can’t make a judgement call on her specifically considering we haven’t seen much of her, but I can say that if you were to combine the tomboys of a similar nature to hers, you’d likely find that they’re more “healthily feminine” (as opposed to “toxic femininity”) than many women of a similar age range. I’m trying to justify myself but it’s very difficult to do that when I can’t really have a back-and-forth conversation structure. 😅 Thanks for being such an interactive creator!
