That was a nasty, preventable crash, both of them :( Oh well, like they say, the amount of flying time you have does not mean anything, its the amount of flying time that you have learned from your mistakes that matters. Just remember...if your plane is in a stall...don't add full power and full up elevator. Airspeed doesn't make a stall, exceeding the critical angle of attack is what makes a stall. :) Great video as usual!

I have been watching your vids now for about 3-4 months. I enjoy your builds and pureness of making mods. Now the down side is mods are more under powered than up. Lastly, BUILD SOME NITRO SCREAMERS. I have a 75% NITRO and 25%BRUSHLESS POWER makers for all my combined AIR/WATER/GROUND RC TOYS. Not as many in quantity as you all. But more than enough for my WIFE TO GET UPSET. I have about 32 total, HOWEVER I also have FULL SET UP TRUCK F-450,38ft closed 3 car trailer and a 2018 FORD GT Street car that is a daily driver but on no prep class 7.67@181.6 MPH 1/4 OR 4.97@154.6MPH 1/8 and I am in heavy with firearms. Have you guys heard of the Iranian drones? A bunch of University students joined forces with the Coast Guard and built large multi-prop drones. The drones are designed to fly out above the water faster than any lifeguard can swim, spot any potential people in trouble and drop circular flotation devices for people to grab onto and float. During an interview one student mentioned the idea of adding heat seeking cameras so that they could find warm bodies under any conditions. These drones already saved lives.
@mitchfitz633310 жыл бұрын
when were the drones made
@zevi10 жыл бұрын
I saw the video. It was an interesting concept, but with many flaws. Firstly, the main problem is identifying which body or heat signal is in distress compared to the other heat signals that are just having fun in the water. I believe the concept for the "lifeguard quad" was to have a autonomous system to do it, which would be very hard to design and very risky in application. An even bigger downfall I foresee is costal weather patterns. I know big hex/octos can withstand a pretty good amount of wind, but in the even of a sudden weather pattern change that could result in a mission for the copter, the weather would most likely make it impossible for the craft to autonomously find the target, drop the lifesaver, and return to shore. Dont get me wrong, I think that remote controller aircrafts have HUGE potential for use in search and rescue as well as firefighting and anti-poaching conservation. With the development of thermal imaging technology like the FLIR cameras (very expensive currently), I do see a drone type craft being of assistance for location heat sources in storm/disaster situations. I just dont think a copter would be the best way of doing that on a coastal region. A large fix-winged craft would be more resilient against wind/gusts and have longer range, payload, and flight time.

Totally fixable... hot water to straighten the nose foam crush, and some skewers into the fuse sides and nose piece to reinforce ... I'd suggest carbon 2 - 3mm rods, but in a Frankenplane BBQ's would work ;-). Cheers, J

We have a few of these Cubs in our group as well. One change we all made was moving to softer (albeit heavier) 5.5" Du-Bro air-filled wheels. The stock foam wheels are nice and light, but way too hard. They work fine on grass, as this episode demonstrated, but they're incredibly unforgiving on asphalt, concrete or any hard landing surface. On all but the most perfect landings, tons of shock it transmitted directly into the airframe and it's extremely unpredictable on roll-out. Ground loops abound. When you take one of them out again, try your hand at some harder surfaces. I'm curious about your experience. Also curious about your experience with the CZ Cub on floats. It's been wonderful on this end. While new challenges are introduced, a lot of the aforementioned gripes are solved on the water, taking this already great plane up a few notches.

Always luv watching you guys fool around with these toy planes, enjoyable to watch & funny:-) One suggestion though rudder is a great savoir but it can also cause a crash as used the wrong way it will accelerate the outer wing creating more lift causing a roll & in this case with the prevailing wind, full left rudder upon application of power might have saved the day, still we all learn:-)

Appreciated the video since I have the same model myself, though not put together yet. Liked that you analysed why the latest crash occured so the rest of us can learn from your crashes. Please, always do post-crash analysis, especially when reviewing products you purchase. Did you find any reason why the first crash occured? Seems to me like pilot error, stall due to excessive banking with too low a speed. Also, the first crash, where Josh dipped a wing-tip in the grass left me a bit puzzled. What happened there, could you explain the counter balanse thing you spoke of a little better?
@alexzvada70510 жыл бұрын
The counter balance (piece on the tip of the vertical stabilizer) hit the grass and tore off on landing..
@FarmerFpv5 жыл бұрын
Actually the counterbalance that broke off is from the horizontal stabilizer it's the actual elevator it's the part of the elevator that sticks out in front of the horizontal stabilizer it's called a counterbalance it pretty much uses the wind as Leverage so the servo doesn't have to use as much force when pitching the tail up and down. What happened was rather than landing on the mains he tried to do a three-point Landing on grass that was a little too tall so it ripped the left side of the elevator counterbalance off also the vertical stabilizer has a counterbalance up top which is impossible to rip off unless you land inverted and 3D planes also have counterbalances on all surfaces including the elevator Rudder and aileron's.
@FarmerFpv5 жыл бұрын

Such a nice plane. I got one in April and love it with the floats. Hope you get to try it with floats! The carnage of watching two of these go down...that's a bummer. Both of my crashes have been ugly snap rolls close to the ground. I finally added some extra expo and that helped. You really have to fly it with some speed because that motor torque and huge control surfaces make for some snappy turns when you punch it. Only damage on mine was to the landing gear since it landed flat. Very hard but Flat.

Thanks for the answers. I have since flown mine and what a plane! Added 28g to the tail. The counter balance being used looks like a wheel flaring. Gary
@czflyer39478 жыл бұрын
The "counter balance" Josh was referring to is simply the corners of his elevator. Many full size planes use this design to reduce the heaviness on the elevator controls. Nothing to do with balancing the plane. Josh ripped off the corner of the elevator by dragging it in the grass. I don't understand why you added tail weight when there's plenty of cg adjustment in the battery compartment.
@FarmerFpv5 жыл бұрын
Have no idea what counterbalance you're talking about but the counterbalance he's talking about is to take the load off the servos they're at the edge of the control surfaces 3D planes have them on every surface including the ailerons the one that he ripped off is on the side of the horizontal stabilizer which is the elevator counterbalance LOL.
@Psi10510 жыл бұрын
The reason you can have two identical planes of different scales and the bigger one is more prone to breaking is because the strength of the materials doesn't scale. Foam is foam and will always have a fixed strength based on its chemical composition. So a scaled up plane has more weight but does not have more material strength to match it. That's why big RC planes are not for beginners, they often break on their first crash. And why those tiny micro quadcopters can smash into things all day long without damage.

@jalbert2225 жыл бұрын
At 9:20, the crash does not look like so much of a cross wind issue, as just a plain old stall. Cause? Using so much flap landing. Not necessary and fosters a bad habit of flying slowly, with therefore very little control surface authority to enable getting out of stalls etc. Location location location in real estate. Air Speed, air speed airspeed in flying :)

Guys... Please tell me how to contact support at E-Flite. I bought this Carbon Z Cub, followed the directions using Loctite as state on page 8 of the directions and the loctite ate up all the plastic fitting contact points. $400.00, plus the battery tray you guys recommend, two of the batteries I ordered, all wasted and it has not left the hanger. It didn't do it instantly but worked gradually so when I finished the build and started to look back over it I see the cowling falling off, and I look and all the assembly contact points are all melted and oozing loose. Probably close to $600.00 all together. I need to contact E-flite support. I am not a happy camper. How do I do that? Thanks.

I would like to build an autonomous long distance sail plane for way point missions and long distance scenic flying. Im looking for an airframe to buy or build. I already have all of my electronics ( flight controller, gps, vtx, camera, rx, ect). I have tried the volantex pheonix 2400 and the volantex asw-28. I have bought the pheonix 2400 3 times and the asw-28 once. I have come to the conclusion that hand launching the airplane is the most problematic aspect of what im trying to accomplish. I have had several successful flights and way point missions but again, the launching of the aircraft has resulted on my absence of an airframe, currently. I was hoping someone could dirrect me to an airframe that is both a good long distance sail plane and has landing gear for runway take offs and landings. I apriciate yalls helps here
