if you're making a plane, I recommend: www.horizonhobby.com/receiver-esc-dsm2-x-ember--champ--j-3-pkz3352 www.horizonhobby.com/prop-and-spinner%3A-sport-cub-s-hbz4401 www.horizonhobby.com/gearbox-with-motor%3A-champ-hbz4930 and some 1s(cell) 3.7v lipo batteries. that's pretty much the CHAMP RTF, Which I highly recommend. Even though I'm 58, i am just now getting into the hobby and scratch building my own and hoping to get it in the air soon. So I'm just getting into the hobby. I'm more of an engine guy. I actually started buying small nitro engines because I thought that they were cool. I found a high wing trainer in Columbus ohio with a os 40LA nitro engine. It's got the old batteries. So if I wanted to go to a bigger battery, say a 3-5 cell, would I just need a bec? My radio and receiver are both futaba on FM. I'm thinking about upgrading the system to 2.4gh. What would you suggest as far as the battery with a BEC and a 2.4ghz kit?

Actually my very first plane "wing made from styrofoam" was a completely homemade out of own plans and i never been flying a plane when i launched that, after first throw i quickly found out that it was too light in the front.. stuck a rock on the nose with duct tape and amazingly i was flying.. such a great feeling! I really want to build that glider as i want my partner to get into the hobby and it seems like a great plane to start with :)

I have an old 1995 Gas Powered Cessna (I think), 4 Channel, and still has the original everything. 8 year old me got it from a friend of my father when he had ruined the wings when he clipped it and he had subsequently lost the remote control as well... my father lost the wings... so those need completely replaced. Good thing it’s balsa wood Well more than 20 years later of no flights I am finally old and financially stable enough to get her sky worthy again! I don’t plan on flying her for quite some time and I’m planning on becoming way more familiar with the hobby first. But I definitely want to get her to run again. Her engine isn’t seized, still has its original steel propeller, engine and fuel tank/ lines. I only can pray that there’s a controller that will communicate with it and that the place I want to go to will have replacement batteries as I’m certain an over 20 year old battery pack will explode if charged. I’m so excited to get into this hobby!

My UMX Habu flew away after I hand launched it. I checked every control before take off. This happened before. Out of the box it seemed ok. Now It would quit responding 10 yrds out and keep flying up and away. Using Dxe from Xvert. I binded the transmitter previously. Do I need to do it every time? Usually, on- Trans, Battery-in-plane, fly!

As far as control surfaces go, sims are 100% accurate. I learned how to fly 6ch Heli on sims 5 years ago. I then bought my 1st 6ch 1 year later and it's still flying today. 100% credit to flying sims. If you are truly interested in this hobby, Your first purchase should definitely be one of these Txs you are talking about, a sim and "USB Dongle(s)" that are all well known to work together. Do not buy randomly, be sure all are meant to work together. Learn to fly, then purchase your Aircraft(s).
@boomerangfreak11 жыл бұрын
no they are all the same you just need to have enough channels. Like most basic planes use just 4 channels (throttle, rudder, elevator, aileron) while more channels are needed if u want to add flaps or gear. But the good thing is that for multi rotors you do not need a channel per motor. You only need 4 channels (throttle, Yaw, pitch and roll) those are basic helicopter channels and are again the only thing you need for basic copters. The flight controller will take care of the esc and motors.

The thing I'm most interested in learning about is what transmitter/controllers are compatible with what receivers. Sounds like only some products from one manufacturer can talk to only some products from the same manufacturer? Are there no common standards that allow different manufacturers to talk to each other?
@allyourcode9 жыл бұрын
Also, if only some receivers and controllers are compatible, how do I choose? Seems like if one determines the other, I need to think more carefully about what products to use? What do I need to think about when making that choice? Does it even matter very much?

Why don't you have a BEC for each one of your servos? Or are they built in. I don't want my servos to go up in blue smoke.
@ignasanchezl8 жыл бұрын
There is only one BEC. The battery is connected to the motor controller (ESC), the motor controller is connected to the motor and to the radio system. The motor uses a high voltage battery, the high voltage is not suitable for your receiver and servos. To provide power to the radio system, the motor controller drops down the voltage from the battery from a high voltage to 5 or 6 volts. This power then goes into the radio system, it powers the receiver and the servos.

When I was in college learning about electronics, I studied under a professor from Scotland (Professor Starrs), who expounded on his theory about "What makes electronics work?" According to this theory, each and every electronic part (resistor, microchip, transistor, etc...) is made with a little bit of smoke built in! The theory states that, IF you let that smoke out, that electronic part will NEVER work again! I even proved that theory a couple of times. (All "tongue-in-cheek, obviously! 🤣 🤣)

Guys , silly question , but can i use my old 7 channel and 9 channel transmitters to work a drone ?
@michaelkelley427511 жыл бұрын
my take on longer flight times would be to stick with the recommended battery size and double your "fuel" by using another battery the same size,but hooked up in parallel rather than series,giving you more time but more weight,as the battery gets used it doesn't loose phsyical weight like gas/glow,so you will loose some performance

Hello! I have a question :) my receiver has an operating voltage of 4 to 8.4 V, can I use it safely with a 11.1V LiPo 3 cell with 1800mAh? Oh, and the receiver is a FCX 6 Pro 6 channel, does it go well with a standard "Futaba S3003 Standard" servo? And if this set-up is ok... meaning will it burn up when I plug ut all up, or will it just run for a minute and stuff like this...? Thank you for the answer in advance! :) PS: my engine control thingy is a 20 A Hobby King Red Brick... does it have a BEC?
@maxantonweber10 жыл бұрын
Yes. Simply plug your LiPo in the ESC, it should work.
@TheMariusCG10 жыл бұрын
Okay :D thank you. And, for example how much time is a good medium flight time; for example I get about 4 minutes of flight time off this 3S 11.1 V 1800mAh and about 6 minutes of flight time off a 2500mAh and this same motor. Is that good? :)
@maxantonweber10 жыл бұрын
4 minutes are not very much. I get around 12 minutes with my Quad.

I managed to get the specs up to 14 minutes of flight time on a 700g thrust... with a 2500mAh 3 cell... and a nice 10.5A motor. But I might get it up even more 'cause the the plane wont weigh that much and a plane can fly with about 35% T/W ratio. So it's all good. Currently I'm waiting for my Turnigy 6X 2.4GHz transmiter... 3 weeks... can't wait to get a few hundred hours on a sim before I even start the build :-D thank you for the help so far :-) I'm as noob as they come to RC flight :-)) but I'm designing my own trainer/stol plane using what I learned so far in 3 years of studying aerospace engineering... but I wonder how a P-38 style pusher trainer would be :-D
