Love this. Back when I worked in the bush, I flew to the back of inlets on the coast of BC in a twin otters on floats. Flying bus. The thing could carry our entire crew in one flight unlike the beaver which I also flew in a lot. Amazing planes made in Canada. Viking Air of BC purchased the type certificates for many De Havilland aircraft and put the twin otter back into production around 2010. Among other things, they also own the type certificates for the Canadair CL 215 - 515, a purpose built, amphibious firefighting aircraft. They strip beavers to their bones and completely rebuild them at their coastal facility. I flew in one. Had that new plane smell in an airframe originally built in 1963.

I was a balsa model snob from the 80's and avoided foam and foam board planes like the plague...however I bit the bullet and purchased and built several foam and FT foam board planes and they fly great !!! They don't break the bank and your soul isn't crushed when you crash... and if you fly RC you will crash. P.S whatever you're paying Dave it's not enough... that man is AMAZING.

Thanks Flitetest crew! You made me look into the fun sides of the rc hobby, i got a FT mighty mini tiny tutor and the turbo wing, Even though its my first time it was very easy to comprehend the build. I used to think rc hobby is some “professional only” hobby but looking at it now its really easy to build a plane with the kits you have i sure hope you keep making excellent, durable and affordable planes for all! Cant wait for this twin otter! Thanks for making my dreams come true as i wanted to fly ever since i first watched your videos in 2016 Thanks alot ❤

Yea flite test has made the hobby of RC flying affordable fun and easy for anyone to build the planes following the build videos as long as you have a hot glue gun and a free sat and Sunday afternoon you can build a complete plane in a weekend or just tought it and grind it out and build a nice plane in one day like 4-6 hours straight. I have built at least 1 of every flite test planes they have released and I scratch built them all except for one of the simple cubs own I got 10 simple cubs all in great ready to fly condition for the dog fights we do at my field, the explorer and the edge 540 is only ones I used speed build kits for the rest was all done sith plans some foam board metal ruler as straigh edge a 2 foot ruler and 1 fppt ruler and a razor blade and a dewalt hotglue gun. These guys got me into the hobby 8-9 years ago maybe 11 not sure it's beenpre then 6 I know for sure and made it so simple and cheap and affordable to get into the hobby from scratch with nothing. I just used the flysky radio from Amazon and some cheap servos ESC and motors off of those Chinese web sites for the first 4 I built then I started buying power packs. But now I'm building huge balsa planes from scratch and kits and loving it thanks flite test.

Hi flite test. Big fan of you guys. I have a little Idea for a future video. Buy a very cheap glider from the Walmart as an example and build it in to an rc. You can make an competition out of it if you want. Long time a go you guys have done it before (still at the old building). Bud I think it would be fun to do it again. Great looking and flying model. Is the nose wheel steerable or is the differential thrust doing all the ground steering? Also, one of the mains collapsed, so, did you redesign the main gear?
@FliteTest6 ай бұрын
The wheel was drilled out to a larger size from a previous project. It just wandered up the leg. :) Simply fixed with wheel collars.
@sebsjunkyard6 ай бұрын
is that differential thrust stabilization josh mentioned around 9:05 through an aura 5 firmware update? I didn't know it could do that
@jonathanrebecca64986 ай бұрын
This is very interesting in purchasing this. It was mentioned at the end that you were using an Aura. Are using an Aura 8 or Flite Test Aura Lite? Have you loaded the Twin Otter config or you have a FT Twin Otter config?
@FliteTest6 ай бұрын
We do use the FT aura five. We also have an amazing tune that gives you different differential thrust stabilization, thrust differential, and all the great features like level assist and level assist that the aura five offers. Flex innovations has been amazing to work with. The tune will be available very shortly on the store for free download. If you use the ELRS protocol, you can even remap a second PWM receiver to operate features like flaps and even head tracking pan and tilt.

We use our own formula foam board made from Readi Board. You can buy our foam on our website which is the stuff we use or dollar Tree and dollar General have the generic Formula which also works but doesn't last as long. But the size is usually 30X40 Sheets. Beef the landing gear up. Every FT plane I have with landing gear is more than just a little too light. I can’t fly off of pavement and my grass field is a bit rough. I know, it’s more my problem than theirs, but a little bit stronger gear would be nice.
@FliteTest6 ай бұрын
In the video, it was actually the wheel that slid up the end of year wire. we were reusing a wheel that had a larger hole and it rotated up the wire. We should simply put a wheel collar on the inside, but you know how we are :-) This landing gear is bent from .125 steel on the back and screwed into plywood. We should’ve showed the wheel issue a bit better. This is simply because we repurpose a lot of of our old gear. This landing gear is insanely strong. Much stronger than many of our earlier models. Thank you so much for the feedback and also your support. :-)
