Got it finished!!!! yeah !!!! What a lot of fun! Took a few days, I have to go over it yet and clean it up a little. Think I will spray paint it silver and put some decals on it if i can find any. Still a lot of snow outside and a little below the freezing mark so won't maiden it soon, but I will be staring at it every day, and thinking what fun it was to build. I want to thank flight test for this great concept, what a swell way to learn how to build your own air plane, and to fly it knowing you built it. Thanks for the great instructions, step by step, which was amazing in itself. I feel as if I know these two lads personally now as they were with me every step of the way. When I got a bit confused I simply backed up the video and listened to it over again. I challenge any of the subscribers to build something. Heck I am 77 years old and if I can do it, I think any one can and the satisfaction you get at the end of it is so gratifying. The Corsair lives to fly again!!! Happy Flying

I'm trying to figure out how to install it properly, and strong enough to for something that large. Oh, and do you find the Vstab a little weak? If you use a rolling pin on the curved pieces instead of the table edge it will be more of an even roundness. Place the pealed side up on the table and roll over it like rolling out dough and it will start curving up evenly

I built one and am working on a second. I put a SAFE receiver in (Spektrum AR637T ) and it flies like a dream. Remember to throttle up before hand launching to set the SAFE and AS3X . I covered mine in blue vinyl and added some decals for a great look. GO FLITE TEST! Ill try to add a picture here.

Just found your channel and am pretty well 'blown away' (soz for the lazy prop pun!)...I'm in my 60s and used to build balsa and tissue planes when I was a kid, but one of my fave airfames was the Corsair...plus the P51, P38, Lancaster and Superfortress. I had them all as Airfix models, nicely painted and all. I'm just getting into CNC routing and Arduino but having found you guys I'm going to add a laser to my rig so I can build your planes. Thanks for bringing me an appropriately updated 'return to my childhood'! I love your passion for flight and enthusiasm, and how you're converting it to an honest livelihood...as well as sharing it for free. The future of humanity will have to be based more on a gifting and sharing economy (not only enlightened self interest) ...Huuuuuge ups to John for authentic modelling of the P40 out of FOAMBOARD!!??!! This really is a great flying plane! I have built MANY of the Flitetest models and this model is my favorite to fly. I attribute this to the light wing loading and authentic airfoil that is produced from "molding" and opposed to "folding". John Overstreet is going to make traditional balsa builders rethink their ways. The scale appearance (especially after a coat of paint) just adds to the fun. Well worth the extra trouble of the build.

Whew, finally got the nose cone fitted together with the fuselage . Not as neat as yours, I didn't wipe glue inside, I was too busy unsticking my nose from the table, my hand to my sweater, and did I mention my eyes got stuck together for a minute, but hey, I got it done, and this is my creation, with the help of your plans. Now back to the video after I un-stick my chair from the rug.

I can tell tht whn the video first starts and we're being told about the Corsair and the guy on the left kept smiling as the other guy, whom designed the model was talking showed me that he was gonna catch hell from the others for whatever reasons they can think of. You guys are too cool for words. Thank you so much! I am curious about how plausible would an aluminum skin for this airplane be? I have a fair amount of experience cutting and flattening aluminum sheets from soda cans. I could see spot welding the critical junctions and just tape or glue for the non-critical seams. A glue tip you might try: Use a vacuum (shop vac, hand vac, etc.) to "pull" glue into hard to reach areas. Just like it sounds, apply glue to one side, and suction to the other side. Also, you guys should consider hosting some sort of contest where the winner gets to spend the day with the whole crew. Or maybe just as simple "fan appreciation day".

Hey guys, this a build review about the corsair I just bought and built. I bought the corsair kit after watching the build and maiden video and quite frankly, I decided to (I fell off the r/c wagon) buy a kit and see how it would turn out. I have a ton of previous r/c plane build and fly time behind me, but it is 25 years behind me and we actually used glo fuel which really added some restrictions to how you could build things. Once I saw the electric motor the credit card came out. Unboxing, the card board box it came in was heavier than the foam board. I have never worked with foamboard or a hot glue gun before. The first thing I noticed as I started popping out the pre cut parts was the little nubs that keep them on the sheet. The parts are very well cut out but those little nubs don't always let go and as a result you get some unwanted paper damage. This was quickly remedied by using the razor knife to cut the nubs on both side of all the sheets. Just as in the video, I started with the main wing and moved forward from there. This was my first time forming foam board and it actually went really well. Considering I was sitting at my computer desk for the entire build so I could watch and re-watch the video as needed. I ended up using the door frame beside me for a crisp 90 degree edge and I had no trouble getting the shapes I needed. I got the port wing perfect and really kinda borked the starboard wing and ended up being ever so slightly out of alignment. I was not happy about this and decided that this build would be a test build and probably would not get the electronics or servo's added at this time. It really shows to, I ended up with a crease instead of a curve which later looked really bad when I joined the wings to the fuselage. Big Note Here. Really take your time, be patient and don't keep trying to build the plane when it's past your bedtime....seriously. With the wing complete I moved on to the fuselage. This was actually quite a challenge. Besides rolling the parts out and shaping them which turned out to be fairly easy for me, I ended up running into trouble with the formers, specifically the double A formers which are the smallest ones. The real bummer was after all the sections had been completed and I started to connect the A former to the B former I noticed that there was about 1/8" difference at the seem. This showed up at the top although it could have been the bottom, I just figured that I would use some scrap to sort of fill in the offset and once it is painted it probably won't be noticed, but on the next build, I will apply more of my sheet metal layout and assembly skills to A) sort out what went wrong on build number 1, and B) see if it a design error or an assembly error. Since this is build one, I expect I did something wrong but as I watched the video several more times, I noticed John had some problems here to so be careful at the A and B connection point to get the best results. Big note here to. Keep those layout ticks in perfect alignment. I was ever so slightly out in one or two places and it shows, not much, but as a guy that builds lots of stuff, I am probably my worse critic when I know I could have done better. However, I did manage to find a way to get the power pack holder to line up really well by not following the build video and going freestyle and using the power pack holder to align things as they went together and that ended up working perfectly. At this point I also had learned a few things about the hot glue and the foam and it was actually getting easier to assemble things. Big Note here to. If you haven't built with foam and glue, or if you are a first time builder, when you order your kit, order 1 or 2 more sheets of foam board. You can use the sheets the parts popped out of as a template to cut extra parts and use the extra parts as test parts before you use the pre cut parts. This might cost you 10 or 15 bucks more, but it is money well spent. The rudder and rear stabilizer went together without a hitch and installed without issue. Here I deviated from the video build again when it came to placement of the rudder. To get the correct placement for the rudder post, I lined up the rudder as shown in the video, alignment to the rear, but then I rolled the rudder over on its side and marked the place where the post needed to be poked into the fuselage. I got a perfect alignment with no guess work, I also used a small piece of scrap to mark out the left and right of center lines so I knew where the glue would go and also to keep things straight. On the next build I will mark this out before it comes of the sheet and is flat, rather than rounded. I had no issues with the cowling, main wing tips or the power pack holder. All in all I probably spent somewhere between 9 and 12 hours over 3 evenings to assemble the corsair. I am going to use this build as a test platform for build technic, paint and decal placement and patterns and also to develop some hard points for external stores. I liked the whole "put bombs on it" idea. Also, I will add some additional scrap or wood to the low points of the wing and fuselage to prevent damage on landings.

I love Flite Test. I have built nearly every plane they have out. My P-38 turned out even better then expected. But I had a lot of issues with this corsair. Nothing wanted to line up right. Seemed some stuff just did not make sense. I usually do not have these issues with Flite Test. Like i said my P-38 came out perfect and it is way more of an advanced master kit then the Corsair. In the end i just scrapped it all. hated to do it but I was just tired of it. Maybe i just got bad foam with it, I do not know. One thing i do miss is being able to call these guys and talk to them when an issue pops up. Now all i get is an email hotline and a return from it saying we will let the guys know. But never a response after that. Still love Flite Test from day one when they were smaller.

I feel this was a long awaited project. I feel the wing could have had more love though, I had the idea a while ago when you guys first started doing the curved foam to do full foam ribs. This would have been a great thing to do with this plane, as there can be a lot of guess work trying to find the correct shape of the wing. Just something to keep in mind. Also please bring back the ability to jump to specific sections of the video it came in very handy while building your planes. All that aside great good guys and I can't wait to see what's next.

A great way to remove the wrinkles that John mentions in the video is to use spackle, the same stuff that you fill holes in your walls. I pre sand the area lightly to allow for better adhesion, then apply a light, smooth coat of spackle with a spackling blade. Once dry, use a sanding block to smooth the area. It is important to use spackle that is not too wet or you will ruin the paper on the foam board. Should be similar to the consistency of peanut butter. You’re then ready to prepare the final surface (paint,colored tape, make water resistant, if necessary, etc.). You might want to practice with some scrap foam board first.

hey guys , i learned this from an old school carpenter, but for the inside seams , i usually have a little bead of glue pushing out , like you tell us to avoid doing on the outside , well i lick my finger real good like and get some saliva on it and then quickly run it down the seam with a bead, this keeps your finger tip cool while you push the glue into the seam and come out with a nice smooth surface.... we used tp do that with caulk in bathrooms to make smooth seam around bathtube, licking the finger keeps cool and stops glue (or caulk) from sticking

I did a similar build for NIAR by taking our VTOL/CTOL Search and Rescue drone loft and scaling rib sections down to 1/3 scale, adding tooling holes and spar holes, peeling the inner paper ply and building the wing. The ribs were then 3D printed and I made a layout of the locations for the foam tooling and used music wire to pin the ribs in place in order to match the loft most accurately, I then cut slots in the foam but not through the paper on the wing skin. Then I preformed and hot glued the skin to the ribs that were being held in place by the tooling (simple standoffs with holes for indexing the printed ribs. The wing used two separate NACA airfoils combined with a 7 degree twist to provide low speed stability. The end result is in the icon next to this comment. I would love to build it again and make a build video some day, or better yet, if I had the actual loft of the Corsair, I would love to make a scale model of it instead! There were a few other techniques I used, but it takes too long to explain. Lets just say that my Tool Design, CAD, Engineering, Fabrication, Electronics, and RC Hobby experiences all collided in this project, and I learned even more! Then we built the full scale with 13' wing span out of carbon fiber!!! Holy Moly, is it big!

Great build flite test, and nice design John! I've been following you on insta for quite some time! One helpful hint to point out to the guys clipping and editing, to maybe consider for the future videos -It would be extremely helpful, when ever a glue-up hold time is mentioned, i.e, Use lots of glue, dab, dab:) and stick, and hold for a 1 minute, that this time of 1 minute be incorporated into the clipping, maybe with a small countdown and some clever elevator music. By the time I dab, dab, stick and hold, the video is onto another step and I am unable to pause due to holding the part together for a minute. And scrubbing on you tube desktop is far too sensitive on longer videos. 20% of time for this build is rewinding and trying to find the spot I was at.

Jason Mundy because their build video is garbage. It also skips the servo install on the tire because he "installed it too early" in other words garbage editing. Ended up having to scrap my plane when it was nearly complete because they skipped crucial steps at crucial times. Expensive kit to go to waste because their editing team can't be bothered to actually watch the garbage they put out.

As y'all can see I am an old newbie to foam board and would like to see the 200% Cruiser to be put into the Master Class as I am sure there are a few unique processes to build something that big and as long as it took me to learn 3D hover and horizontal rolling circle I would really like to have a build video for this PLEASE.

literally just finished the build, will finish up trim checks tomorrow, can't wait to fly this thing!. Only small pointer I have it to make sure the power pack pod is fitted to former "F" the one in the cowling. I didn't install it correctly the first time ( I put the end of the pod in former "E" )and needed to cut plane apart to position it correctly; There are some editing issues with the video at this area, and I think another posted went on a bitch-fest about it. Other than that it was a fun build and went smoothly
