My Mom was never told about periods when she was a girl and thought she was dying when she first got hers. She became a gym teacher, mostly in the Jr. High, so she made sure her students all knew. She also provided emergency sanitary supplies and the girls all knew they could go to her if they needed anything. She taught from 1943-84 (taking the 50's off to have 3 kids and get us to school age) so this was when many thought it was a deep dark shame that even mothers didn't talk about.

Yes! Not one but TWO reactors who understood immediately that Sue and Tommy were trying to help Carrie! I'd say at least half of the reactors get confused and think they're in on it until the big moment. Great reaction! In this story, the horror is Carrie's life! One of the most emotional horror movies ever......with a single classic jump scare thrown in to give it bona fide horror movie credentials! :P Yes, Sissy Spacek was in "Badlands"! Really good movie! Also she was in a great Robert Altman movie in 1977 called "3 Women" with Shelley Duvall. Really weird, fantastic acting. Those two and "Carrie" are my fave Sissy Spaceks, although she was in a lot of movies during the 80s (like "Night Mother" as mom says, or "Coal Miner's Daughter" Also really good in the David Lynch movie "The Straight Story").

@@jannathompson2262 I have to admit.....it's been so long since I first saw "Carrie" - late 1970s - that I'm not sure I made the same mistake first time I saw it. So, even though I left this original comment, I should add that in there. I presume I got it first time around.....but maybe I didn't! Also, I can't remember if I read the book first or not, so that might have helped.

FYI: "Carrie" only exists because of Stephen King's WIFE!! He had originally thrown the novel in the trash! She retrieved it and the rest is history! This is by far my favorite adaptation of this movie. The scenes at the prom between Carrie and Tommy were so real. What she experienced in the last few moments of her life--her first kiss, her first dance, the first time anybody told her she was loved. And that kiss; I will never forget that. Also, both Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie (her mom) were nominated for Academy Awards. Neither won, but it wasn't too long after that Sissy won best actress for her portrayal of Loretta Lynn in "Coal Miner's Daughter."

the fact that Carrie is abused in such horrible ways by everyone from the bullies at the school to her mother to a freaking random kid on a bike makes you realize how cruel people actually can be to others. its a tragic story that shows how repulsive entitled people can be (Chris's unprovoked hatred), how disturbing someone can be when they take their beliefs too far (no offence intended), and how seemingly "innocent pranks" can have unimaginable consequences. even though this isn't a "fun" movie, it's my favorite from Stephen King because of the truths it rings and the warnings it gives.
@hectorsmommy17172 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: when Stephen King wrote the book, he threw it in the trash. His wife found it, read it, and told him he needed to publish it. He didn't get a ton of money but did when the paperback rights were sold. He quit teaching and became a full-time writer because of that money.

Cool reaction! Couple more fun facts. Piper Laurie thought this was a black comedy, due to the over the top-ness of her character. That is Sissy Spacek-s hand in the end. Apparently not everyone was really laughing at her at prom, that was just her imagination.

Great reaction guys to this classic film. Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie both got well-deserved Oscar nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, which is unheard of for a horror film. They gave remarkable, fully committed performances. And the film is so well directed, stylishly too, by Brian DePalma, who was beginning a great string of terrific films for the next decade or so. I HIGHLY recommend the film “Blow Out” from 1981. It stars Travolta and Nancy Allen, who played ringleader Chris in “Carrie” and is written and directed by Brian DePalma. Great political thriller in the Hitchcock vein and both Travolta and Allen give 2 of their all-time best performances in it. Also, “Badlands” is a fantastic film, one of the great films of the 1970s. Definitely worth checking out as well. As is “Coal Miner’s Daughter” which won Spacek her Oscar. Keep the great reactions coming!

OH MY GOODNESS!!! Someone else that knows “‘Night Mother”!!! It was a play on Broadway that starred a relatively unknown actress named Kathy Bates. This role got her a lot of attention and praise for her work. When they decided to make a film out of it, everyone said no one can play this part better than the originator, Kathy Bates. But the studio didn’t think she would be a big enough draw to the box office, so they got the big name Sissy Spacek. Sissy was panned in this role, doing only a mediocre job. She couldn’t pull off the soul, gut wrenching performance that Kathy did and could. Every review I read about this, from cities across America and the Hollywood trade papers, said this about the movie. Basically, in a nutshell, the choice of Sissy over Kathy ruined its chances of making money and getting an Oscar nomination. But I do love it, even with Sissy, and can’t believe someone else remembers it!!!!

His behavior speaks to it and he kisses her more than once. PJ Soles wore her red hat throughout the film because when she auditioned, Brian De Palma liked it and told her to be sure to bring it with her. I actually had been a fan of Sissy Spacek‘s since 1980 when I was only three years old. The only movie that I ever got to see her and at that time was in fact coal miners daughter. I didn’t get to see Carrie until I was 16 years old on May 5, 1993. My parents had rented the movie for me at blockbuster right after my mom bought me a used copy of the novel and it turned out to be the movie edition that had the image of sissy on the cover. Carrie has been my all-time favorite Sissy Spacek movie since I was 16. That same year after my parents and I had moved from Northern California from which we lived there from 1982 to September 1993, we moved to southern Utah and my mom and I one day were in a used bookstore and I was up in the non-fiction autobiography and true crime section and came across a paperback edition of the Amityville horror. So the original 1979 version of The Amityville Horror and the 1976 version of Carrie are my favorites. Sissy Spacek did an excellent job playing the role of Carrie White and if you guys happen to have the 40th anniversary Blu-ray edition that came from screen factory you’ll see a lot more special features on the second desk. Some of the special features were actually originally carried over from the 25th anniversary edition but there are some extra ones that were for the 40th anniversary Blu-ray edition .

One thing the movie never makes clear is that the story is mainly from Sue’s perspective. I’ve heard (and take this with a grain of salt) that in the book, it’s stated that Sue is being interrogated by the police, and this is her account of the events of the prom. If she were as evil as most people who react to this think she was, she wouldn’t go out of her way to show Carrie as a sad, lonely, bullied girl, and I’m glad someone finally gets that she’s innocent. Also in the book, it’s stated that she is blamed for dumping the blood on Carrie, so she writes an autobiography to clear her, Tommy’s, and Carrie’s names. If I got a few small details wrong, it’s because I can’t find a copy of the book, and must rely on hearsay.

Betty Buckley played the gym teacher in "Carrie." Besides playing the gym teacher, Betty also did the voiceover for the kid taunting Carrie while riding his bicycle and saying, "Creepy Carrie, Creepy Carrie." Next, she played the stepmother in the popular TV show "Eight is Enough." Once that show ended, Betty decided to go to Broadway because she is actually an excellent singer and actor. She got the part of Grizabella in the grand opening of the Broadway show "Cats" by Andrew Lloyd Weber, which debuted in the U.S. in 1981, and she received a Tony award for Best Actress in a Musical. Later, she got cast in another Andrew Lloyd Weber musical in London, "Sunset Boulevard," as Norma Desmond, based on the 1950 movie of the same name, written and directed by Billy Wilder, starring William Holden and Gloria Swanson. There was an attempt to make "Carrie" a musical, but it bombed with many critics not liking it. Betty got to play the mother role in that show. Many years later, the writer and composer did a new version of "Carrie," and it did much better the second time. Betty has done other Broadway shows, and she has released many albums. I got a chance to meet her with the Seattle Men's Chorus as the guest singer. She was very nice.

Lovin' these reactions gearing up for Halloween! You and your Mom are a great team. Piper Laurie as Margaret White was phenomenal and very unsettling in this- both Laurie and Spacek were Oscar nominated for their roles, Supporting & Best Actress, respectively. Laurie is also great in "The Hustler"w/Paul Newman & George C. Scott and "Tim" w/Mel Gibson...also "Children of A Lesser God" w/William Hurt (RIP) & Marlee Matlin. So looking forward for more!!

The one taint in this movie is that statement that she's young enough to forget what happened. It's ludicrous, and beyond my imagination why they would have that said about a girl her age. Yeah, no one remembers their prom.

1. Stephen King threw this book away, but his wife took it out and told him to send it in. It's the first one that sold to a legitimate publisher that wasn't adult pulp and the first to be adapted into a movie. 2. Back then teachers were allowed to strike a student if warranted. 3. Another religious nut bag can be found in King's "The Mist". 4. Norma/PJ Soles 😍 Al long as I have a face....😋 (she has to ace that ballcap) 5. Sue, Tommy and Miss Collins really were trying to help Carrie. I read the book. 6. The bully teacher Mr. Fromm/Sydney Lassic Played Chezwick in "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest". 7. If Billy's a high school student, so am I. 8. Margaret's crucifixion pose is the same as the St. Sabastian. 9. Both Sissy and Piper Laurie were nominated for Oscars but Horror never gets tha love so they lost. Sissy later won with "Coal Miner's Daughter".😎 10. The only thing good in the second LOSER remake is Carrie/Chloe Grace Moretz could get it. (King remakes are 0/10)
